Nicolas Roche rode a carbon monocoque Kuota Kalibur like this one to a 77th-place finish in Stage 19, dropping the Irishman from 11th to 12th on GC.
Denis Menchov rode the new Canyon Speedmax CF Evo time trial bike to a 28th-place finish in Stage 19, a disappointing result from a man who has won three Grand Tours. Mavic wheels and Shimano’s Dura Ace Di2 electronic drivetrain complete the Russian’s time trial package.
Lampre-ISD – Wilier Triestina TwinFoil
Wilier Triestina has created a new version of the TwinFoil time trial bike for the riders of Lampre-ISD. Simone Stortoni rode this one in Stage 19, but it didn’t stop the Italian from receiving a 40-second penalty for drafting behind a rider who passed him.
Team BMC – BMC TM01 Time Machine
For the final time trial of his record-setting 17th—and last—Tour de France,
George Hincapie rode the new BMC TM01 Time Machine. BMC cut no corners with the TM01, going out of their way to hide as many of the Shimano Dura Ace Di2 cables and batteries as possible.
Liquigas-Cannondale – Cannondale Slice RS
Despite being “
the Tourminator” Peter Sagan rode his usual Cannondale Slice RS time trial bike to a 45th-place finish in Stage 19. For its Slice RS, Cannondale emphasized creating a sleek interface between the fork, head tube, and top tube.
Team Sky – Pinarello Graal
Team Sky’s
Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome rode the Pinarello Graal to first and second-place finishes in both of the Tour’s long time trials. Note the back-mounted front brake, the triangular ridges on the downtube, and the near-vertical seatpost—all designed for aerodynamic efficiency.
Vacansoleil-DCM – Bianchi Pico Crono Carbon
Kris Boeckmans rode Bianchi’s Pico Crono to a 46th-place finish in Stage 19, the best of Vacansoleil-DCM’s remaining riders. Bianchi went for stiffness with the Pico Crono, using an integrated seat mast and a sculpted chainstay for stiffness and power transfer.
Omega Pharma-Quick-Step – Specialized Shiv
Levi Leipheimer’s Specialized Shiv comes with a SRAM Red Groupset, Quarq Powermeter, and Zipp wheels. Levi switched from the Zipp 404 Firecrest to the deeper and more aerodynamic 808 Firecrest for Stage 19.
Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank – Specialized Shiv
Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank hasn’t finished getting its Shivs repainted with this season’s color scheme. Like Omega Pharma-Quick Step, Saxo uses SRAM components and Zipp wheels.
FDJ – Lapierre Aerostorm
No, this isn’t a custom paint job! All of FDJ’s Lapierre Aerostorm time trial bikes come with this intimidating paint scheme. In the case of Thibaut Pinot, it must have worked: the 22-year-old Frenchman used this bike to defend his tenth-place position in the overall standings.
Movistar – Pinarello Graal
Movistar uses the same Pinarello Graal frameset as Team Sky, but with Campagnolo components and wheels.
Europcar – Colnago K.Zero
Thomas Voeckler has a special Colnago K.Zero in honor of the Polka Dot Jersey he wears as the Tour’s King of the Mountains. Note the Campagnolo Bora aero crankset and the strategic water bottle placement.
Rabobank – Giant Trinity Advanced SL
Rabobank’s Luis Leon Sanchez finished third in Stage 19 on a Giant Trinity Advanced SL like this one. As with many teams sponsored by Shimano, the Dutch squad uses Dura Ace Di2 and Pro wheelsets (even though these aren’t labeled).
RadioShack-Nissan – Trek Speed Concept
The current leader of the Team GC, RadioShack-Nissan came to Stage 19 with four riders in the top-20 overall. Luckily, they had the Trek Speed Concept at their disposal. With Shimano Dura Ace Di2 components and Bontrager wheels, The Shack’s bikes are an attractive and effective package.
Euskaltel-Euskadi – Orbea Ordu
With its bright orange highlights, you can’t miss the Orbea Ordus of Euskaltel-Euskadi. Egoi Martinez rode this one in Stage 19 with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 and PRO wheels.
