The 76ers aren't currently in talks with the Nuggets and Nets on a three-way trade, according to a Philadelphia official.

Ken Berger of CBS Sports reported a possible scenario on Thursday where Philadelphia would deal the expiring contracts of Jason Kapono and Willie Green along with Thaddeus Young and Andre Iguodala for Denver forward Carmelo Anthony.

The same 76ers source said that while the trade has been discussed "a little" internally, they don't believe they have a real shot at Anthony.

The Celtics have invited former UMass star Stephane Lasme, Southern Indiana's Jamar Smith and LSU's Chris Johnson to training camp, according to sources.

Boston already has 15 players under contract for the 2010-11 season, making it unlikely that any camp invitees will make the regular-season roster.

The Celtics worked out Adam Morrison, Rashad McCants, Cuttino Mobley, and Trenton Hassell this week.

Jon Scheyer will not attend the Utah Jazz's upcoming training camp, according to his agent Mark Bartelstein.

It was reported Thursday that Scheyer had accepted an invitation to compete for a roster spot with the Jazz.

A Summer League opportunity for Scheyer with Miami was then derailed after two games, when he suffered an eye injury.

DePaul Assistant Leaves School To Become Scout For Hornets

David Booth, assistant coach for DePaul, is leaving his alma mater to join the New Orleans Hornets as a scout.

Booth has been with DePaul since May 2009 as an assistant, most recently working as the program's director of community, corporate and professional relations.

"It was a great experience being able to come back to DePaul and be part of the program," he said. "It's something I'll always treasure."

Booth will handle scouting in the northeast region for the Hornets. He was a scout for the Memphis Grizzlies for five years before joining DePaul.

"As one of the DePaul greats, we're excited for David and wish him nothing but the best," said head coach Oliver Purnell, who will begin his first season this fall.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra has noticed the difference in the way his franchise is perceived around the world following their acquisitions of LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

The moves were not warmly received by many people involved in the NBA, including some of Spoelstra's acquaintances.

"Every single franchise in this league, if they had the opportunity to sign three players the way we were able to, they would have without any hesitation," Spoelstra said Friday in an interview with The Associated Press. "So everything else that everybody is saying, at first it was hard for us to understand. But that's how this team is going to be viewed."

Monta Ellis welcomed rookie Stephen Curry to the Warriors last season with comments suggesting that they would be unsuccessful playing at the same time.

"A month before the season was over with, I really had to sit back and blame myself in a sense because I'm that leader; I'm that one who everybody feeds off of," Ellis said. "Everything that went on last year (regarding Curry) shouldn't have gone on. I blame myself."

Ellis said he made amends with Curry this summer. Curry attend the wedding of Ellis in July, while the only other current teammate present was Devean George.

"When I made that comment, I wasn't knocking him," Ellis said. "I wasn't bashing him. It was based off of what me and the Warriors were going through at the time. It had nothing to do with him.

Hornets Sign Strawberry, Watkins

The New Orleans Hornets have signed guard D.J. Strawberry and center Darryl Watkins.

Strawberry played in college for Maryland but has yet to catch on in the NBA after being taken in the second round of 2007 draft by the Phoenix Suns. Strawberry spent last season in the NBA Development League and played the season before in Italy.

Watkins was undrafted in 2007 but was later signed by the Sacramento Kings, for whom he played nine games. Watkins also played professionally in China in 2008-09.

Ed Davis sustained a “meniscal” injury to his right knee during a pickup game Wednesday night and the treatment options are still being determined.

Toronto's top draft choice from the 2010 NBA Draft was playing informally in Mississauga on Wednesday when the injury was sustained.

The team did not disclose details of any treatment for Davis, which could run from rest to arthroscopic surgery. Toronto begins training camp at the Air Canada Centre on Sept. 28.

In a television appearance on Thursday, Carmelo Anthony talked about the growing media frenzy surrounding his reported desire to part ways with the Nuggets.

Anthony said the chatter is premature because he is not yet a free agent. Then Anthony seemed to emphasize the part about becoming a free agent, after a gentle nudge from the interviewer George Lopez.

​"I'm a Nugget. I'm a Nugget, man," Anthony said.

"There are a lot of rumors. It's crazy how somebody else will predict where they want you to go at, what team they want you on," Anthony continued. "It's overwhelming sometimes to read the blogs and see the Internet and see what people are saying. Everybody wants to see me go here, everybody wants to see me go there. And I'm not even a free agent yet. That's the tough part."

"If you were a free agent ...?" Lopez prompted.

"That's a different story," Anthony responded, laughing.

If Anthony is open to playing out the final season of his contract and becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer, it would be a significant development. Conventional wisdom has been that Anthony is determined to avoid free agency by signing a contract extension -- with a team to which the Nuggets trade him -- before a new collective bargaining agreement is in place.

The attempt to read Anthony's intentions is another indicator that the Summer of LeBron has become the Late Summer of Melo, as the sports world has gradually turned its attention to the stalemate between the Nuggets and their superstar.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich says that future Hall of Fame forward Tim Duncan is in better shape heading into the 2010-11 season than he was at this time last year.

Duncan is 15 pounds lighter entering the new season.

"He's trim and slim. I think he's even slimmer than he was last year," Popovich said. "He's really serious about this. He knows his responsibilities. He wants to win again."

Duncan is entering his 14th NBA season and is close to eclipsing the 1,000-game mark.
