Miller Suffers Thumb Injury

마이크 밀러가 엄지 손가락 부상으로 6~8주 아웃이 예상된다고 합니다..

During Wednesday's practice, Miami's three-point shooter Mike Miller suffered what appears to be a serious injury to his thumb on his right, shooting hand.

Miller will be examined by a hand specialist in South Florida on Thursday.

"It was just a drill," Erik Spoelstra said. "He got it caught in a jersey with some contact, on a post-up."

Even if surgery is not needed, Miller could be out as many as six to eight weeks or longer.

A source insists that it's just a matter of time before the Nuggets are forced to trade Carmelo Anthony to one of the two New York-area teams.

"It's the Knicks or Nets," the source said. "It's not a matter of if but when."

Whether the superstar forward would agree to a long-term contract extension with the Nets remains the biggest unknown variable of the Anthony saga.

Previous reports from CBS Sports and Yahoo! Sports have indicated that Anthony himself was not sold on playing for the Nets but that the player's agents -- Leon Rose and William Wesley -- were leaning on him to accept New Jersey.

Thursday's report in the New York Daily News claims that Anthony would in fact sign off on a deal sending him to the Nets. From early on, a group of Nets' beat writers have maintained that Anthony is on board with a trade to New Jersey, or at least that the Nets are confident they can convince him to sign an extension if a trade can be finalized with Denver.

But on October 4, Anthony's own words on the subject seemed designed to give the opposite impression.

"I never said I want to play for the Nets," the Denver Post quoted Anthony saying, after stating that his top priority is to play on a winning team.

The New York Post reported Thursday that Spike Lee has been in regular contact with Anthony whose preferred choice remains the Knicks.

"Carmelo definitely, 100 percent wants to be a Knick," a source said.

Anthony seems to have been prompting the Knicks, through Lee, to complete a trade for him sooner rather than later.

Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor announced today that the team has waived guard Sundiata Gaines, guard/forward Othyus Jeffers, forward Demetris Nichols and guard Ryan Thompson. The Jazz roster now stands at 13.

Gaines (6-1, 200, Georgia) appeared in four preseason contests with the Jazz (all as a reserve), averaging 5.0 points, and 2.3 assists in 11.0 minutes a game.

Jeffers (6-5, 210, Robert Morris (IL)) played in five preseason games (one start) for the Jazz, averaging 6.4 points and 2.4 rebounds in 8.6 minutes.

Nichols (6-8, 215, Syracuse) appeared in four preseason contests (one start) with the Jazz, averaging 5.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in 10.8 minutes.

Thompson (6-6, 218, Rider) appeared in five preseason games (one start) with the Jazz, averaging 2.6 points and 0.8 rebounds in nine minutes a game.

Bulls Waive Lucas, Weaver And Powell

The Chicago Bulls announced on Thursday that the team has requested waivers on guards John Lucas III, Kyle Weaver, and forward Roger Powell.

Lucas III (5-11, 165) saw action in five preseason games with the Bulls and averaged 2.2 ppg and 0.8 apg in 6.4 mpg.

Weaver (6-6, 201) played in three preseason contests and posted averages of 2.3 ppg, 2.3 apg, 1.7 rpg and 8.7 mpg.

Powell (6-6, 225) appeared in one preseason game and recorded two points and one board in two minutes of play. Chicago’s roster now stands at 13.

Mavs Waive Dee Brown, Haluska

The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have waived guards Dee Brown and Adam Haluska. Brown and Haluska signed with the Mavericks as free agents on September 27.

Brown (6-0, 185) appeared in six preseason games for Dallas and averaged 2.2 points and 2.0 assists in 10.3 minutes per game.

Haluska (6-5, 210) saw action in three preseason games and averaged 1.7 points and 0.7 assists in 6.0 minutes per game.

Robin Lopez Has 11-12 Option Picked Up

The Phoenix Suns have exercised the fourth-year option on the contract of center Robin Lopez for the 2011-12 season, the team has announced.

Originally the Suns’ first-round pick (15th overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft, the 7-0, 255-pound center blossomed in 2009-10 after being inserted into the Suns’ starting lineup midway through the season. Lopez, who became a starter on Jan. 18, helped lead the Suns to a 22-9 (.710) record in his starts while averaging 11.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 24.5 minutes as a starter.

Board Of Governors Approve Several Replay Modifications

The NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved several modifications to the instant replay rules that will go into effect for the upcoming 2010-11 season, the league announced on Thursday. Instant replay may now be used:

· During the last two minutes of regulation and the entire duration of any overtime period, to determine whether the ball touched the rim and thus whether the shot clock should be adjusted.

· During the last two minutes of regulation play and the entire duration of any overtime period, to determine which of two players on opposing teams caused the ball to become out-of-bounds. This modification expanded the previous rule to include the entirety of an overtime period instead of just the last two minutes of an overtime period.

· During a replay review of an out-of-bounds call, to determine when the ball is out of bounds for purposes of adjusting the game clock and shot clock.

· At any point during the game, to determine which player should attempt free throws after a foul occurred.

· At any point during a game, to determine whether a foul that was called a clear-path-to-the-basket foul met all the criteria of a clear-path-to-the basket foul.

The NBA first instituted instant replay prior to the 2002-03 season to review last second shots and fouls at the end of each period.

The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that the team has exercised its third-year option on guard Jrue Holiday and its fourth-year option on forward/center Marreese Speights. Both players are now under contract through the 2011-12 season.

Holiday (6-4, 180) was the 17th overall pick by Philadelphia in the 2009 NBA Draft and was the youngest player in the league last season. In 73 games with 51 starts, Holiday averaged 8.0 points, 3.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.09 steals in 24.2 minutes per game. Over the final 16 games, he averaged 12.0 points, 6.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.94 steals.

Speights (6-10, 255) was the 16th overall pick by Philadelphia in the 2008 NBA Draft. In 141 career games played with the Sixers, he has averaged 8.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game while shooting 49.0% from the floor. Speights scored 20-plus points in three of the final six games last season, and seven times overall, after doing so once as a rookie in 2008-09.

Tom Thibodeau has been more interested in teaching than yelling during the early part of his tenure as head coach of the Bulls.

But Thibodeau called a 20-second timeout during the first quarter Wednesday's game against the Raptors to yell at his team for their casual start.

"He expects a lot out of us," Luol Deng said of the timeout. "And we were letting him down."

The Bulls responded by eventually beating Toronto by a final of 110-103.

Glen Davis is in the final season of a two-year, $6 million extension. Davis is scheduled to be a free agent when there is a potential work stoppage.

“Yeah, it motivates me, just as a player,’’ he said. “I can’t dwell on it, because if it worries you, it stops you from the task at hand. So I’m just focused on trying to get back to the championship, trying to win a championship and help my team.’’

Davis is a relative bargain at $3 million per season.

“Things will fall off the way they are supposed to,’’ he said. “I just got to keep playing and don’t worry about it. There’s nothing I can do, but it does test my patience. But at the same time, what else can I do? Sit there and just wait.’’
