A New Use for a CD's Flip Side

In the years since the advent of digital file sharing, record labels have included a bonus DVD of video footage with the traditional CD in an attempt to lure consumers to buy music again. Producers have also put video footage on enhanced music CDs, which are viewable only on a computer's CD-Rom and do not have the same playback quality of a DVD.

The days of using two discs for two forms of entertainment are coming to a close.

A German company, DVD Plus International Inc., has found a way to make a disc with songs on one side, which play in a standard CD player, and videos on the other side, which play in a regular DVD player. DVD Plus International has so far released 70 of these combination discs outside North America.
