Walt Disney's The Lone Ranger is the tenth version to be seen in movie theaters or on TV as serials. It is an action-adventure western film directed by Gore Verbinski. It is based on the 1933 radio serial of the same name. The film stars Armie Hammer in the title role and Johnny Depp as his sidekick Tonto. The movie tells the story of a Native American warrior (Depp) who teams up with John Reid (aka the Lone Ranger) to fight against greed and corruption. They also aim to seek justice for tragedies in their lives. Tonto recruits The Lone Ranger to bring justice to those responsible for destroying his tribe's villages. Reid wants to find the killers responsible for his brother's apparent death.

There has been controversy over the casting of Depp as Tonto. There are concerns as to whether the film will present a positive and accurate representation of the Native American Comanche people. The film's producers hired an adviser from the Comanche Nation to ensure that Depp's portrayal of Tonto would be an honest one. Depp himself has openly dismissed the controversy. He said there is Native American ancestry in his family heritage and thus he has made all efforts to represent the Comanche accurately. He said he considers the role as a personal attempt "to try to right the wrongs of the past", especially because of the often warped way in which Native American culture was portrayed in earlier movies.

* recruit = 모집하다[뽑다]/ bring sb to justice = ~에게 법의 심판을 받게 하다

(1) 목적 : ~하기 위하여
I went to the station to see a friend off. (나는 친구를 전송하러 정거장에 갔다.)
에서 to see off는 목적을 나타내는 부정사로서 "전송하기 위하여"로 옮길 수 있다.

(2) 결과 : ~해서 ...하다
Few people live to be a hundred years old. (100살까지 사는 사람은 드물다.)
이 문장에서 to부정사를 "~하기 위하여"로 옮기면 이상해진다. 수명은 하늘이 정하는 것이니 목적이 될 수 없기 때문에
"100살이 되기 위하여 사는 사람은 드물다."라고 번역할 수 없는 것이다. 이 때 to부정사는 결과를 나타내는 것으로 서
"살아서 100살이 되는 사람은 드물다."라는 뜻이 된다. 이와같이 결과를 나타내는 부정사는 우리말 해석에 특히 유의해야
한다.

(3) 원인 : ~해서, ~ 때문에
I'm sorry to trouble you. (폐를 끼쳐 죄송합니다.)
에서 to부정사는 "~해서"라는 뜻으로 이유나 원인을 나타낸다.

(4) 조건 : ~하면
You would make a great mistake to accept his proposition. (그의 제안을 받아들인다면 큰 과오를 범하게 될 것이다.)
에서 to accept는 "받아들인다면"이라는 조건을 나타내는 말로 옮길 수 있다. to이하가 "~이면"이라는 뜻이 되는 것이다.

(5) 형용사의 수식
He is quick to see the faults of others. (그는 다른 사람들의 결점을 보는 데는 빠르다.)
에서 부정사 to see 이하는 형용사 quick을 수식하고 있다. 이와같이 형용사를 수식하는 to부정사는 형용사 뒤에
위치하게 되며, 그 의미는 그때그때 문맥에 따라 적당히 의역하는 것이 좋다.

He awoke to find himself famous. (잠에서 깨어보니 그는 유명해져 있었다.)

To hear him speak Korean, you will take him for a Korean. (그가 한국어를 하는 것을 들으면, 그를 한국인으로 잘못 알 것이다.) 
She was kind enough to show me the way. (그녀는 아주 친절하게도 나에게 길을 가리켜 주었다.)
