PART III
41-43.
W: Is anything the matter? You don't look well.
M: My tooth is bothering me. I think I'd better get it checked out. Do you think it would be okay if I left the office a bit early this afternoon to drop by a dentist's office near my place?
W: Sure, that will be fine as long as you finish the weekly report before you take off. Remember, the meeting with the general manager is scheduled to start tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock, and I've asked Ted Bradley to look over the figures to make sure there aren't any errors in them.
M: Sure thing. I am just about done here, so he should get it before lunch.
44-46.
W1: Sarah, I overheard Mr. Denver saying that Mr. Rodriguez is coming for a visit next Monday.
W2: Oh, no. I hope he's not bringing us bad news again. I mean, he seldom makes a trip out here, but when he does, he usually brings us bad news. The last time he came he told us about the budget cut, and that really affected a lot of our salespeople here.
W1: I know, but let's just hope that it'll be something good this time. Who knows? he could be coming here to tell us that we will be getting a bonus or something.
W2: I doubt that very much.
47-49.
W: My parents are coming to see me this weekend, and I want to take them to a nice seafood restaurant because my father is crazy about seafood. Would you happen to know a good place in town by any chance?
M: Sorry, I don't eat seafood because I am allergic to it. However, you might want to ask Jeff. He apparently knows all the nice places in town. I heard it's a hobby of his to find and try eating at new restaurants.
W: Really? That's very interesting. I've heard of people who do that, but I didn't really think I would know anyone.
M: Yeah, he says he is going to write a book on it someday.
50-52.
M: We need to come up with a catchy name for our new line of digital cameras that is soon to be released on the market. Do you have any suggestions of what we should do?
W: Well, we could use a professional consulting company like we have always done in the past, but I think we would have more luck trying something new, like asking the consumers directly.
M: You mean like having a contest? You know, I think you have a good idea there. This way we can get the consumers directly involved, and at the some time I t would save us a lot of money.
W: Yes, it's like killing two birds with one stone. Let's bring it up at our meeting today.
53-55.
W: I need to step out for a moment because I parked my car on peterson Road this morning, but there is no parking there between the hours of 2 to 4 on weekdays. I am going to have to drive all the way to Jane Road and park there.
M: You know, instead of trying to find a spot on Jane Road, you should just park your car in the lot at the supermarket on College Street, and it's not too far to walk here from there.
W: I guess you are right. I could leave my car there and not have to worry about moving it again.
M: You should. I always do, and I haven't had any problems yet.
56-58.
M: Have you gotten used to the new software John installed on your computer yet? It's supposed to be faster and easier to use than the program that was originally there.
W: I don't know because I haven't had the time to use it yet. I've been away on a business trip and just got back this morning. Tell you what - I will try it out this morning and let you know how it is at lunch. I just hope it won't take long for me to learn how to use the program.
M: You shouldn't have any problems with it. The commands keys are exactly the same as the old program.
W: Is that right? I guess I won't have any problems using it then.
59-61.
W: I can't believe that you are leaving us after 10 years here, John.
M: It has been a long time, hasn't it? I can't believe that I am leaving either. I mean I started working here tight after I graduated from college, and I have gotten so close to everyone here. I am really going to miss the staff.
W: You know, it is sad to see you go, but at the same time, I wand to wish you the best in the new business you are starting up. I am sure that you are going to be successful.
M: Thanks. I've been waiting a long time to do this, and I can't believe that I am finally doing it.
62-64.
W: I'm getting a lift with Ms. Wilson tonight to go to Steve's Housewarming party. How are you getting there?
M: I was going to drive there, but my car conked out on me this morning on the way to work. I ended up towing my car into a garage, and I had to take the bus to work. Do you think it's possible for me to get a ride with you tonight?
W: I'm sure that it will be fine, but I'll ask Ms. Wilson to make sure. She's in a meeting now, so I'll ask her when she comes out. I'll let you know during lunch.
M: All right. I will see you at the cafeteria then.
65-67.
M: I want to start investing some money toward my retirement years, but I am bot sure what would be best. Didn't you tell me that you know of some one who is working in the field?
W: Yes, my brother is an investment manager. He helps people make the right investment choices. Do you want me to call him and set up an appointment for you?
M: Yes. Can you? I would really appreciate it if you could do it right away. In fact, I am going to be in my office all day today, so do you think you could have him call me here directly?
W: Sorry, Jack, but he went out of town on business and won't be coming back until late this evening. I will give him a shout the first thing tomorrow morning.
68-70.
W: The company is planning to make some organizational changes, and this is making some of the executives very nervous. The talk around the office is that some of them are going to be out of jobs.
M: Wow, this is big news. Do you know when this announcement is going to be made?
W: Well, according to my manager, the news is going to come as early as next week. The reason for this is that the president was very disappointed with the failure of our last project. We apparently lost a lot of money there.
M: You know, this may not be very nice of me to say, but I think the president is making the right move. I really think some of the managers don't belong where they are. They should be gone.
71-73.
This is very nice house. I am happy to show it to you today because I know that you will really like it. It has two bedrooms and a very large living room. The bedrooms were recently remodeled with more windows and bigger closets. The house is in a very convenient location; close to the subway as well as a beautiful park just three blocks away. The center of downtown Glendale is only ten minutes by car. I think you will find that getting to work every day will be very easy! Of course there is a garage, too! So, let's explore the house. I am eager to show you the new bedrooms.
74-76.

Welcome to today's news report from the business world. Automobile sales reports are in and the government says that sales are the highest ever recorded for the month of June. Market analysts are reviewing the possible explanations for this sales leap during a month that usually shows much lower automobile sales rates. One reason is that there were quite a few new models released this spring by car manufacturers. Many of these new models were designed with better safety features, meeting a demand made by many consumers. It is likely that consumers who were very interested in improved safety features brought about June's high sales rate. Analysts predict that July and August will also have high sales rates as consumers show continued interest in the new models.

Next up we have an older song from a wonderful band, something you might recognize. The song is "Strength of a Friend" and it's written and performed by a band from Iceland, "Top Strings".
