Lillian Moller Gilbreth (1878–1972) was a brilliant pioneer who broke barriers in both the factory and the home.
Lillian's career began working alongside her husband, Frank Gilbreth. Though he was a contractor without a college degree, and she had degrees in literature and psychology, they shared a practical, brilliant mind.
Together, they founded "time-and-motion studies," a revolutionary concept: to make work faster, safer, and less tiring.
They filmed workers and analyzed every single movement, identifying wasted effort.
They even invented a system of 17 basic human motions (like 'search,' 'select,' 'grasp') to break down all work.
Lillian brought a crucial element to their work: humanity. While Frank obsessed over speed, Lillian focused on worker satisfaction, safety, and dignity, believing efficiency and humanity should go hand-in-hand.
