Serena: Jack, I heard you got fired yesterday ! That's twice in four months. What is happening with you?
J: I was late almost every day and I missed a few work deadlines./S:That doesn't sound good. Has it always been like that for you?
Jack : Well, I struggle to be on time. I am not good at estimating how long it takes to do things.
Serena : It sounds like you might have adult ADHD. You should look into getting properly diagnosed.
Jack : I'll reach out to my doctor and see what she recommends
S: So, what did your doctor say?/ J: She said that probably have ADHD, but she dosen't want to prescribe medicine for it yet.
S: Did she teach some things you can do that will come in handy when your mind is racing?
J: Yeah, she calls them centering exercises. But I keep forgetting to do them.
S: Then you need to set an alarm on your phone to remind you every hour.
J: Good idea. I really need to get better at reining in my thoughts and emotions.
S: I heard you started doing freelance web design. Why not look for another job?
J: I think this will be better for my ADHD. I'm in control of my environment and my schedule.
S: That makes sense. Your last boss hated it when you left the office for an hour in the middle of the day.
J: Yeah, we didn't see eye to eye when it came to my working style.
S: Well, if you're completing your freelance work on time. You'll be fine./ J: I do feel like I'm on the right track.
S: How's it going, Jack? Are you getting work to pay the bills?
J: Yeah, but sometimes I'll go a day when I can't get anything done. I just get overwhelmed with everything.
S: What can you do about it?/ J: I listen to certain music of sounds like rain or crashing waves, which can help me calm down.
S: I don't realize how much ADHD can affect your day-to-day life.
J: At least now I know what the problem is. I used to think I was just lazy.
S: Jack, I'm so impressed with the latest website you designed.
J: Thanks! That's one of the superpowers of ADHD-when you're pressed of time, you can be hypher- focused for hours.
S: Fear of failure is a good motivator, but it can't be your only secret to maintaining your train of thought.
