Restrictions eased further for Perth and Peel

Perth and Peel have transitioned out of lockdown, but some restrictions remain until 12.01am, Saturday 8 May.

People in unaffected regions who have been in Perth or Peel since 17 April should wear a mask in public, unless an exemption applies e.g. vigorous outdoor exercise. 

If you develop symptoms, get tested. A list of testing sites and locations (external link) is available.

Masks

• Masks must be worn when you leave your home., Exemptions apply, but where these exemptions apply, you should have you mask close by to put back on as soon as practicable. 
• If you have been in Perth or Peel since April 17 and are now in another region, you must continue wearing a mask in public. 
• For people who are deaf or hard of hearing, you will be able to remove your mask, if necessary, to communicate. Writing notes, pointing or the speech to text app, where possible, are encouraged.
• Children 12 years of age and under are exempt from wearing a face mask.

Gatherings

• Maximum of 30 people permitted for private gatherings in the home (indoors or outdoors).
• Private gatherings in public areas (e.g. a birthday party in a park) can have up to 500 people.

Events

• Events with over 500 people subject to 2sqm rule up to a maximum of 10,000 people and are required to have an approved COVID Event Plan

Work

• People are encouraged to return to work.
• Wear a mask at work, on public transport and when travelling in a private vehicle with people you do not reside with.
• If you are unwell, stay home.

Venue capacity limits

• Seated hospitality venues, including restaurants, cafes, food courts and bars that provide seated service only can open at 75 per cent capacity or apply the 2sqm rule – whichever is greater
• 2sqm rule applies to all other unseated hospitality venues, except nightclubs
• Gyms, fitness centres, dance studios, beauty salons and hairdressers can open with the 2sqm rule in place
• Public venues, including community centres, libraries, museums, galleries and recreation centres can open with the 2sqm rule
• Certain indoor and outdoor entertainment venues with fixed seating (theatres, cinemas, concert halls, comedy lounges and performing arts centres) can operate at 100 per cent capacity
• Places of worship can operate at 100 per cent capacity
• Nightclubs, stadiums and the casino gaming floor will be closed until at least 12.01am, Saturday 8 May.

Travel

• Regional travel permitted
• Restrictions on entering remote Aboriginal communities.

Hospitals, residential aged care and elective surgery

• A hospital patient or resident of an aged care or disability facility may only have one visitor per day
• All categories of elective surgery resume

Contact registers

• It is mandatory for most businesses and venues to maintain a contact register, and people visiting these premises must check-in
• The WA Government’s SafeWA app is an easy way for people to easily check-in at businesses
• Paper-based registers must also be made available as an alternative.

Education

• Schools, childcare centres, universities and TAFEs are open
• Mask wearing requirements apply for all school staff and secondary students, but not primary school students or staff when teaching.

Weddings and funerals

• Can proceed with up to 200 guests and 2sqm rule applies
• Exemptions can be sought for above 200 attendees where there is 2sqm of publicly accessible space per person.

Exemptions for more than 200 attendees are only required at this stage for weddings and funerals occurring up to 12.01am, Saturday 8 May.

People wishing to apply for an exemption to have more than 200 attendees must complete this form and email it to DoH.WeddingsFunerals@health.wa.gov.au in order to proceed.
