SEOUL, April 15 (Yonhap) -- The acting chief of the Presidential Security Service (PSS) offered to resign Tuesday after a majority of staff reportedly signed a petition demanding his departure for allegedly obstructing investigators' efforts to detain impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol earlier this year, according to sources.

Kim Seong-hoon, who has led the organization in an acting capacity, announced his intention to step down by the end of the month during an emergency meeting with PSS officials, the sources said.

He had remained in the post even after Yoon was officially removed from office earlier this month by the Constitutional Court over his short-lived martial law declaration in December.

Lee Kwang-woo, head of the agency's bodyguard division who has also come under pressure to resign, has reportedly taken a leave of absence through April 25.

The two officials are under police investigation for allegedly blocking the execution of an arrest warrant for Yoon in January and ordering the deletion of communication records from secure phones used by Yoon and top military commanders during his brief imposition of martial law.

Kim's resignation follow the circulation of a petition reportedly signed by more than half of the PSS' roughly 700 employees. The petition allegedly accused Kim and Lee of abusing the former president's trust to run the security agency as a private entity and jeopardizing the organization by engaging in illegal activities, including abuse of power.

(서울=연합뉴스) 김승욱 기자 = 윤석열 전 대통령 파면 이후에도 자리를 지키던 김성훈 대통령경호처 차장이 15일 사의를 표명한 것으로 알려졌다.

김 차장은 이날 오후 직원을 대상으로 긴급 간담회를 소집한 자리에서 이달 말까지 사퇴하고, 남은 기간 직무에 관여하지 않겠다는 취지로 말한 것으로 전해졌다.

이광우 경호본부장은 25일까지 휴가를 낸 것으로 알려졌다.

경호처 직원들은 최근 김 차장과 이 본부장의 사퇴를 요구하는 연판장을 돌린 바 있다.

연판장에는 700여 명의 경호처 직원 중 절반 이상이 참여했으며, '김 차장과 이 본부장은 대통령의 신임을 등에 업고 경호처를 사조직화했으며 직권 남용 등 갖은 불법 행위를 자행해 조직을 위태롭게 하고 있다'는 비판이 포함된 것으로 전해졌다.

김 차장과 이 본부장은 윤 전 대통령의 체포영장 집행 저지를 주도하고 대통령실 비화폰 통신 기록 삭제를 지시한 혐의(특수공무집행방해·대통령경호법상 직권남용)로 경찰 수사를 받고 있다.
