Korean Catholics celebrate silver, golden jubilee baptisms Among those celebrating was a 92-year-old woman baptized in 1925November 7, 2016In a special Mass, Catholics in Seoul celebrated their baptism anniversaries in a heartfelt reminder that the meaning of the ceremony is to turn people into children of God. At the baptism renewal ceremony, held at Susaek Church on Nov. 1, hundreds of people watched Catholics who were baptized 25 or 50 years ago renew their baptismal vows. Some were infants when they were baptized, some were baptized in order to receive a church wedding and some were elderly people decades ago. Baptismal vows are the profession of faith by an adult candidate for baptism or in the case of an infant, given by the godparents. A total of 108 and 371 people celebrated their golden and silver jubilees respectively at the Mass. Among them was Theresa Park Chan-sook, 92, who was baptized in 1925. Father Peter Shim Heung-bo, parish priest of Susaek Church, encouraged the congregation: "Be happy and let's walk together to practice the mission as Christians by overcoming the various temptations of the world." The parish holds the ceremony annually to encourage local Catholics in their faith. Related Reports
