교독문 Responsive Reading 시편 Psalm 1
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way
of the wicked will perish.
Biblical Ruling
Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; Genesis 1:26-29
In the creation of man, God fashioned him from soil in the likeness of God. As God is a spirit, physical appearance holds no significance. Therefore, the image of God can be perceived as the ambiance or influence emanating from an individual's character. This should encompass virtues such as God's power and mercy, essentially meaning to shape man after God's image is to mold him in the likeness of God.
However, this molding is done with soil, the type of which is inconsequential. This soil is extracted from the earth, symbolizing our pre-existing personalities and lives. The phrase "In the image of God, and by taking soil, I made a man" finds its most fitting representation in Jesus Christ, who embodies both divinity and humanity.
Understanding the initial chapter of Genesis as God's ongoing creation of our individual personalities, we ponder the significance of the man fashioned in God's image on the sixth day. This figure refers to the imminent arrival of the Lord within us. Some theological scholars assert that only the Lord who arrived on Earth two millennia ago will instruct and manifest, leaving the new creation with the Lord within us shrouded in uncertainty.
As a firsthand witness to and participant in this entire process, I recognize that the wisdom elucidated in Chapter 8 directly relates to each of us. This wisdom is the faith bestowed upon us, affirming that the Lord has entered me, and I am united with the Lord. While the Book of Revelations prophesies future events and records the processes, it includes John himself among them—each of us is akin to John.
The woman formed from a man's rib is the "Greater" of John, a divine creation that bestowed this essence within us. Many often reject or crucify the arriving Lord, but I stand as a person who welcomes the Lord within me. Reflecting on one's life may reveal only oneself, yet acknowledging oneself may seem slightly peculiar, mirroring the Lord's self-awareness.
This 'person' is instructed to govern everything, embodying the fulfillment of God's word as the authority of creation. The Lord's rule over my personality and entire life signifies a profound meaning. What does conquering entail? Does replenishing the earth signify mere quantitative growth? Contemplating this in a person-to-person context, what does it truly mean to conquer others?
Did God direct us to subjugate and subject others to our influence? Worldly governance involves manipulating others at our disposal and placing them under our authority. However, God's command to dominate is akin to instructing the luminary bodies to govern day and night on the fourth day. In our tangible experiences, this directive becomes comprehensible. Ultimately, comprehending ourselves in entirety, understanding the minds and positions of others, and embracing wisdom and the perception of oneness with the Lord will lead us to grasp the purpose of God's creation.
