Dear Friends,
Likely several of you thought that we dropped from the face of the earth – that is not the case but it has been a time of change as we left the home we loved in the country to move to western Michigan. It was not an easy decision but we are getting used to the slower pace. We moved into our new home toward the end of March, 2013. It has taken time to get used to our new environment. It has been a blessing to have moved into an area we are familiar with, having been supported by First Baptist Church in Spring Lake for many years.
The decision was made even easier when our daughter and family moved into our area just six miles from us. It has been a great plus to have them nearby. It's actually the first time that we have been able just jump in the car to go see them whenever we want (we do give them warning). It has taken some time to adapt to being in a small church but we appreciate being able to get to know pretty much everyone in the church.
Our house is an “open concept home.” At first we weren't too sure about that "concept" but we have gotten used to it and are feeling more at home. We are adjusting to being a part of a small church after being in a church as large of Trinity. Certainly we miss seeing our long-time Trinity friends but we are also finding that a smaller church has its advantages too and one of them is getting to know everyone in the church. We have been impressed.
It is with great sadness that we share with you the news of Pastor Thomas Kaye’s home-going. Thomas was our beloved friend, and mentor. During the troubled times when safety in Chad was a huge daily issue, Thomas looked out for us and we looked out for him and his family. Pastor Thomas passed away late this past year. Thomas was a man we truly loved and we miss him dearly! Please remember Thomas’ wife as most of their children have moved to the capital city of N’Djamena while she remains in her rural area home.
We were making plans to visit Chad in November. However, since Ross was unable to travel to Chad due to health reasons, we are looking forward to bringing Lago to the U.S. to spend some time with us – he will be with us April 17 to May seventh. We are trusting that we will be able to help Lago receive medical attention while here. As many of you will remember Lago worked side by side with us in the SCMR Agricultural Projects. It was Lago who was asked to take over the Agricultural Project at Bere when we had to leave Chad due to Inky’s many bouts with Malaria.
Ross continues to teach online classes at Crown College via the internet and together we keep in touch with several of the Chadian personal still working in the south. Inky continued her work in Central Asia, working with nationals and expatriated still working in Central Asia. That work started twenty years ago. For many of those years Inky was in charge of coordinating the work, traveling 3 or 4 times a year to the region. It is with joy that now most of those in charge of the work are equipped nationals in their various countries. Inky “retired” two years ago, turning the ministry into the hands of a Central Asian lady who had worked with Inky for several years. Thankfully there continues to be good connections and projects carried out together through the different organizations with expats and nationals working together.
We are looking forward to becoming more involved with the local church we are attending. It is obvious that we are still very interested in reaching the unreached. Consequently we have agreed serve on the Church’s mission committee. We are also part of a small group that meets every Monday night for fellowship and study of the Word.
We are so thankful for your love and concern during this time. It has taken some time to get acclimated to our new home. There is always something needing done but having good friends come visit us is much better!
With our love and appreciation,
