K: Randy, why do you always look so tired?/ R: I have hard time falling asleep at night. So I never get more then five hours of sleep.
K: You need to change your habits so you can become an early bird instead of a night owl.
R: I guess there are some things I can do differently that will help.
K: I can help you. I settled into a routine that ensures I wake up refreshed./ R: I'm willing to try anything but sleeping pills.
K: The first step toward becoming a morning person is winding down at least an hour before you go to bed.
R: You mean I should turn off the TV, phone, and computer?
K: The blue lights on those screens mimic sunlight, so by turning them off, you set the stage for good sleep.
R: That's going to be a big change. I usually just turn off the light and scroll through social media for a while.
K: That is not helping you./ R: Okey. I'll put my phone on sleep mode at 10:00 tonight.
R: Hey, Kristina Your tips really helped me get to sleep earlier. But I had trouble getting out of bed.
K: I think your body was thrown off by the sudden change in your schedule./ R: Yeah, I stayed in bed until the last minute.
K: If you want to get a hand start on your day, you also need a morning routine./R: I usually turn off my alarm and go back to sleep.
K: Tonight, leave your alarm in another room. You'll have to get out of bed when it starts beeping.
R: I was doing a little research about why some people are early birds and some people are night owls./ K: What do you discover?
R: Apparently, our sleep rhythms are rooted in our evolutionary biology.
K: How does that play a part in whether or not we like to get up early?
R: Way back when, we used to be hunters and gatherers. Some people stayed up late to guard the village, and some people got up early to hurnt.
K: Don't let that be your excuse to not get up early!
(Randy): "Good morning, Kristina!"/ (Kristina): "I've never seen you in this coffee shop so early before."
(Randy): "I just got back from the gym to get the blood pumping. I am also taking an online course every morning."
(Kristina): "Wow! You're really grabbing life by the horns."
(Randy): "Ever since I started forcing myself to get out of bed early, I've been looking forward to everything I've been missing."
(Kristina): "Well, I'm looking forward to seeing the 'Morning Randy' more often. Maybe we can start meeting here for coffee a few times a week."
