Breaking News Party
Every Thursday night, we Hodah people gather to learn about God's mysteries, prayer, forgiveness, spiritual warfare, and many other deep topics that help us apply Christian values to our daily lives.
One particular Thursday, DK asked if anyone had any breaking news. This is a special time when Hodahnites have the opportunity to share what God has been doing in their lives. Some share updates about their health, others share words God has spoken to them, answered prayers, or changes they have witnessed in the lives of those around them. I, too, have shared many testimonies during this time.
As I reflected on these moments, I realized that this breaking news is not merely a privilege—it is a necessity.
Throughout the week, we each live separate lives. Then we come together, bringing good news to share—breaking news. But why is this important?
Why do people read newspapers and follow breaking news stories? We do it because staying informed helps us make wise decisions, remain safe, anticipate what is coming, and prepare ourselves accordingly.
In the same way, we share and listen to spiritual breaking news so that we can make informed spiritual decisions, guard ourselves against the work of evil spirits, and prepare our hearts for Jesus' return. These testimonies are not only important to share; they are important to hear, learn from, and carry with us as we walk through our daily lives.
I like to think of Hodah's breaking news time as a potluck party. Each of us brings a dish to share—some spicy, some sweet, some savory, and some simple. Regardless of the flavor, every dish contributes something valuable. In the same way, every testimony nourishes both body and spirit. The breaking news we bring feeds one another and strengthens our faith. We each contribute something so that everyone can enjoy a portion of the feast.
Recently, this "breaking news party" theme has extended into other areas of my life.
My church recently celebrated Teacher Appreciation Day for our children's ministry teachers. I had the opportunity to decorate and host a small gathering for the English Ministry kindergarten teachers. With breaking news on my mind, Jesus and I decided to create a celebration with a breaking news theme.
Later, my husband's birthday became another breaking news-themed event.
I'd like to think that Jesus and Hodah helped me with these designs.
The newspapers displayed on the walls were filled with many different stories—some sad, some joyful, and even a few advertisements. They reflected the variety of stories local people encounter in life. But the greatest breaking news of all is the news that gives life and nourishment—the testimonies of what God is doing among His people. That is why I continue to bring my "dish" from time to time, hoping to feed and encourage others as well.
Thank you, Hodahnites, for the side dishes you bring.
Thank you for the potluck party.
And thank You, Jesus, for providing all the ingredients necessary to host these breaking news parties—both at Hodah and at birthday celebrations.
