DP candidate Lee pledges to set up task force to handle economic crisis

SEOUL, May 25 (Yonhap) -- Democratic Party (DP) candidate Lee Jae-myung said Sunday he will set up a task force to handle the ongoing economic crisis if he's elected president next month.
서울, 5월 25일 (연합뉴스) -- 민주당 이재명 후보는 일요일 다음 달 대통령에 당선되면 현재 진행 중인 경제 위기를 해결하기 위한 태스크포스를 구성하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

In a press conference at the DP headquarters in Seoul, Lee said establishing the task force, with the president in charge, will be the first thing he will do "if I am chosen by the people" in the June 3 election.
서울 민주당 본부에서 열린 기자회견에서 이재명 대표는 대통령이 이끄는 태스크포스를 구성하는 것이 6월 3일 선거에서 "국민의 선택을 받으면" 가장 먼저 할 일이 될 것이라고 말했습니다.

"Only the candidate and the party prepared to resolve problems that have piled up can overcome this crisis," Lee said. "I will quickly prepare measures to help people's livelihoods that can be implemented immediately and wage a battle against the recession."
이재명 대통령은 " 쌓여온 문제를 해결하기 위해 준비한 후보와 당만이 이 위기를 극복할 수 있다"며 "즉시 시행할 수 있는 민생 지원 대책을 신속히 마련해 불황과의 싸움을 벌이겠다"고 말했습니다

Lee said he will look past ideological differences when implementing policies as long as they can help the economy and the people.

Lee also stressed that he will "cut the vicious cycle caused by the politics of confrontations and conflict."

"Over the past three years, the president encouraged the political divide and deepened extreme confrontations, leaving us with deep scars," he said, in reference to former President Yoon Suk Yeol, whose April impeachment following an ill-fated martial law declaration set up the June election. "We must end the kind of politics built on hating each other and trying to remove each other. Reviving the culture of coexistence and communication can help restore democracy."
그는 불운한 계엄령 선포에 따른 4월 탄핵으로 6월 선거가 치러진 윤석열 전 대통령에 대해 "지난 3년 동안 대통령은 정치적 분열을 조장하고 극단적인 대립을 심화시켜 우리에게 깊은 상처를 남겼다"고 말했습니다. "서로 미워하고 서로를 제거하려는 위에 세워진 정치를 끝내야 합니다. 공존과 소통의 문화를 되살리면 민주주의 회복에 도움이 될 수 있습니다."

"I am the right person to end the politics of division because I understand better than anyone the ills of political retribution through abuse of power," Lee continued. "While I will sternly punish those behind treasonous acts that threatened the country and the people's lives, I will never engage in political retributions targeting specific individuals."
이재명 대표는 이어 "권력 남용을 통한 정치적 응징의 폐해를 누구보다 잘 이해하고 있기 때문에 분단의 정치를 종식시킬 적임자"라며 "국가와 국민의 생명을 위협한 반역 행위의 배후에 있는 사람들을 엄중히 처벌하겠지만, 특정 개인을 겨냥한 정치적 응징은 절대 하지 않겠다"고 말했습니다.
