FORT MYERS, Fla. -- So much has changed since they completed their epic American League Championship Series of last October. The result is that what was already the fiercest of rivalries has gotten even juicier.

The Red Sox, smarting from that devastating Game 7 loss in the Bronx, beat the Yankees to Curt Schilling.

The Yankees, after watching the Red Sox relinquish their quest to bring Alex Rodriguez to Boston, gleefully scooped the megastar up in a February blockbuster for Alfonso Soriano.

For the first time in nearly five months, they'll be back on opposite sides of the field and MLB.com will carry the game live on MLB.TV and Gameday Audio. It is a prelude to April 16, when the Sox and Yanks meet at Fenway in a Friday night game that FOX will air in prime time.

A Red Sox PR staffer said the team had been 'bombarded' by media requests. CNN and ESPN are just a couple of the national outlets that will be represented in what could be a standing-room-only press box.

A-Rod is making the trip. So is Derek Jeter. Nomar Garciaparra, who would have been traded if the Red Sox could have landed Rodriguez, will hit cleanup for Boston.

'I'm looking forward to it,' said Rodriguez. 'It's going to be a pretty exciting day, a sellout crowd. Hopefully it will be a prelude to what we're going to see all summer.'

Just how close did A-Rod come to being with the Red Sox for Sunday's game instead of the Yankees?

'I have to be honest with you, there was about three-quarters of my body that I thought was wearing a Boston uniform,' A-Rod said recently. 'That was the reality of it.'

Conversely, Manny Ramirez, who would have been dealt for Rodriguez, confessed to teammate David Ortiz over the winter that he felt like 'nine of his toes were in Texas.'

Safe guess, as that is how it has gone the last two years. In fact, last season, it went 26 games, with the Yankees sealing a 14-12 edge only after Aaron Boone's pennant-winning homer in the 11th inning of Game 7.

'You can ask me (Sunday) and I'll tell you,' Francona said. 'I just don't know. I am sure I'll probably be able to notice from the fans' standpoint and from the (media's) standpoint, there will be added interest, a little bit of electricity in the air. There was obviously a lot of interest this winter. I paid more attention to it because I'm with Boston, but I think it was national interest too. I think that's good for baseball, too.'
