영적인 돌파를 위한 준비

1. 시대의 변화(paradime shift)

영적인 여정의 모든 단계에는 장애물이 있습니다. 그리고 그 장애물을 극복하면 다음 단계의 장이 펼쳐집니다. 아브라함에게는 고향을 떠나는 것과 롯과의 결별과 아들에 대한 집착을 버리는 것이 주요 단계였습니다. 야곱은 라헬과 관련된 모든 흔적을 삶에서 지우고 나서야 한 민족의 조상에 걸맞는 영적인 수준을 획득합니다. 모세는 이집트와 홍해를 지나 광야의 숱한 반란을 제압하고 여호수아에게 전권을 위임함으로 자신의 사명을 마칩니다.

여호수아에게 첫 관문이 된 여리고는 요단을 건너야 정복할 수 있는 불가능에 대한 도전처럼 보입니다. 더이상의 만나가 공급되지 않는 시간이 시작됩니다. 구름기둥과 불기둥이라는 하나님의 임재와 보호를 뒤로하고 언약궤를 의지하고 앞으로 나아갑니다.

과거의 영광의 잔재를 버리는 것은 몹시 힘든 작업입니다. 그러나 게의 탈피처럼 단단한 껍질을 벗고 연약한 속살을 드러내야만 성장은 시작됩니다. 세상의 업적과 재물과 명예를 의지하고 영적인 여정을 시작하는 것은 불가능합니다. 삭개오는 그 모든 특권을 포기하고 주님의 제자가 됩니다. 부자청년은 재물을 선택함으로 예수님을 따르는 첫 계단을 잃어버립니다.

요단강을 건너는 것은 자살행위와도 같습니다. 죽음을 각오한 한 걸음을 말씀을 의지하고 내딛을 때 기적은 시작됩니다. 순종의 발걸음은 죽음에서 생명으로 불가능에서 가능으로 좌절과 실패에서 형통으로 향하는 지름길입니다.


2. 보이는 것에서 보이지 않는 것으로

광야에서 모세와 아론을 장사지내고 나오는 이스라엘백성에게는 신참 지도자인 여호수아를 통한 하나님의 인도가 있었습니다. 그리고 언약궤를 맨 제사장들의 솔선수범이 필수적입니다. 문제는 이들이 아무도 두려움과 불가능의 말을 하지 않았다는 것입니다. 모두 한 마음이 되어 여호수아의 명령을 철저히 따릅니다. 눈에 보이던 모세라는 거대한 영적 산맥을 뒤로하고 새롭게 시작하는 전투에서 젊은 지도자 여호수아는 하나님의 명령의 칼을 들고 진군을 명합니다. 전사이며 사령관인 여호수아와 기름부음받은 제사장들의 발걸음은 왕같은 제사장이신 예수님의 모습을 연상시킵니다.

아침마다 만나가 내리고 밤이면 불기둥이 길을 인도하고 낮에는 구름의 영광이 진을 지키던 광야에서 오직 제사장들의 뒤를 따라 요단으로 진군해 가는 이스라엘의 모습은 오늘날 예수님의 뒤를 따라 믿음으로 발걸음을 옮기는 성도들의 모습과 겹쳐보입니다. 눈에 보이고 손에 잡히는 은혜에서 보이지 않아도 믿는 믿음으로의 성숙한 발걸음이 우리의 믿음입니다. 마지막 때에 믿음을 보겠느냐라고 한탄하시던 주님앞에 우리의 믿음의 발자국을 보여드리며 담대히 천성길을 향해 가시는 성도님들 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

Preparing for a Spiritual Breakthrough

1. A Paradigm Shift

Every stage of the spiritual journey presents its own set of obstacles. But with each breakthrough, a new chapter unfolds. For Abraham, the journey required leaving his homeland, parting ways with Lot, and surrendering his attachment to Isaac. Jacob had to erase every trace of Rachel from his life before he could rise to the spiritual stature of a patriarch. Moses fulfilled his calling by leading Israel through Egypt and the Red Sea, quelling countless rebellions in the wilderness, and ultimately entrusting leadership to Joshua.

Joshua’s first challenge—Jericho—could only be faced after crossing the Jordan River, a seemingly impossible task. It marked the end of manna from heaven. The pillar of cloud and fire, symbols of God’s presence and protection, were left behind. Now, the people had to move forward, trusting solely in the Ark of the Covenant.

Letting go of past glories is never easy. Like a crab shedding its hardened shell, we must expose our vulnerable selves to grow. It is impossible to begin a true spiritual journey while clinging to worldly achievements, wealth, or status. Zacchaeus abandoned all his privileges to follow Jesus. The rich young ruler, however, forfeited his opportunity by choosing his possessions over discipleship.

Crossing the Jordan is an act of surrender—like stepping into death. But when we take that step in obedience to God’s Word, miracles begin. The path of obedience is the shortest route from death to life, from impossibility to possibility, from despair to divine success.

2. From the Visible to the Invisible

After burying Moses and Aaron in the wilderness, the Israelites were led by God through a new leader—Joshua. The priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant had to take the lead. Remarkably, no one voiced fear or doubt. United in heart, they followed Joshua’s command without hesitation. Leaving behind the towering spiritual figure of Moses, the young commander Joshua now wielded the sword of God’s authority. His leadership, alongside the anointed priests, foreshadows the image of Jesus—our King and High Priest.

In the wilderness, manna fell each morning, fire guided them by night, and the cloud of glory protected them by day. But now, the people advanced to Jordan river by following the priests alone. This mirrors the life of believers today—walking by faith, not by sight. It is a journey from tangible grace to mature faith that believes even when nothing is seen.

May we be among those who, when the Lord asks, “Will I find faith on the earth?” can boldly show Him our footprints of faith. Let us walk with courage, following Jesus step by step, as we press on toward our heavenly home.
