Pain that shatters the illusion 환상을 산산조각 내는 고통

If [the first and lowest operation of pain] shatters the illusion //that all is well,

the second shatters the illusion //that [what we have], whether good or bad in itself, is our own and enough for us.


Everyone has noticed [how hard it is [to turn our thoughts to God /when everything is going well with us]. 

* all is well ; everything is in a good or acceptable state: 
* it = [부정사구]

[We ‘have all () we want’] is a terrible saying /when ‘all’ does not include God.


We find [God] [an interruption].


As St Augustine says somewhere, ‘God wants to give us something, but cannot, because our hands are full—there’s nowhere for Him to put it.’ Or as a friend of mine said, ‘We regard God /as an airman regards his parachute;

it’s there for emergencies but he hopes () he’ll never have to use it.’


Now God, who has made us, knows [what we are] and that our happiness lies in Him.

Yet we will not seek it in Him //as long as he leaves [us] [any other resort //where it can even plausibly be looked for]. 
 


While [what we call ‘our own life’] remains agreeable we will not surrender it to Him.

What then can God do in our interests but make [‘our own life’] [less agreeable to us],

and take away [the plausible source of false happiness]?

If 만약 [the first 첫째와 and lowest 최소한의 operation 작용은 of pain 고통의] shatters 산산조각 내는 것이다

the illusion 환상을 //that 그건 all 모든 것이 is well 만족스럽다는,

the second 둘째 것은 shatters 산산조각낸다 the illusion 환상을 //that [what 그것이 we 우리가 have 가진],

whether good 좋든 or bad 나쁘든 in itself 그 자체로, is our own 우리 자신의 것이고 and enough 충분하다는

for us 우리를 위해.

* 환상은 자유이지만 망상은 자신을 파멸로 이끌기에 깨져야 자긴에게 좋은 것이지만

환상을 사실로 알고 애지중지하는 사람에게 고통이 임할 때라야 비로소 환상이 깨진다

Everyone 모든 사람들은 has noticed 인지하고 있다 [how 얼마나 hard 어려운 it 그것이 is 상태인지

[to turn 돌리는 그것이 our 우리의 thoughts 생각들을 to God 하나님께

/when 그때 everything 모든 것이 is going 돌아갈 때 well 잘 with us 우리에게].

일이 잘 될 때 하나님을 생각하기란 매우 어려운 것은 하나님을 찾을 필요가 없기 때문이다

[We 우리는 ‘have 가졌다라는 건 all 모든 걸 (that) we 우리가 want’ 원하는] is a terrible 형편없는 saying 말이다

/when 그때 ‘all’ 모든 것이라는 것이 does not include 포함하지 않을 때 God 하나님을.

* 우리가 생각하는 원하는 모든 것에 하나님께서 안 계시면 그 모든 것은 허깨비로 돌변할 건 무생물 특성 때문이다

We 우리는 find  발견한다 [God 하나님께서] [an interruption 방해자라는 걸].

* 내 뜻대로 살고자 하는 욕망에게 하나님의 뜻은 내 길을 가는데 방해역할만 된다

As St Augustine 성자 아구스틴이 says 말했듯 somewhere 어디선가,

‘God 하나님께서 wants 원하신다 to give 주시기를 us 우리에게 something 어떤 것을,

but 그러나 cannot 하실 수 없다, because 왜냐면 our 우리의 hands 손이 are full 가득하기에

—there’s 존재하지 않는다 nowhere 아무런 장소도 for Him 그분께서 to put 놓으실 it 그것을.’

* 손에 가득한 것을 버리지 않는 한 새것을 수납할 공간부재로 받지 못한다

Or 또는 as a friend 한 친구가 of mine 나의 said 말했듯,

‘We 우리는 regard 간주한다 God 하나님을 /as 마치 an airman 비행사가 regards 간주하듯 his 그의 parachute 낙하산을;

it’s 그건 there 거기 있다 for emergencies 비상시를 위해

but 그러나 he 그는 hopes 희망한다 (that절 내용을 즉) he’ll 그는 never 결코 have to use 사용해야 하지 않기를 it 그걸.’

* 누구에게나 위급시에 사용되는 생명구조용 낙하산이 필요하긴 하지만 쓸 상황이 오기를 원하지는 않기에

하나님을 낙하산처럼 생각하는 사람이 만사형통하는 상황에서 하나님을 생각하기란 하늘의 별 따기가 된다

Now 이제 God 하나님께서는, who 그분이신 has made 만드신 us 우리를,

knows 아신다 [what 그것과 we are 우리 자신인] and that our 우리의 happiness 행복이 lies 놓여있다는 것을

in Him 그분 안에.

Yet 여전히 we 우리는 will not seek 찾지 않는다 it 그것을 in Him 그분 안에서

/as long as he 그분께서 leaves 남겨두시는 한 [us 우리에게] [any 어떤 other 다른 resort 해결책을

//where 거기서 it 그것이 can even plausibly 타당스럽게조차 be looked for 추구되는]. 

* 하나님을 찾지 않고도 행복할 방법이 있다면 우리는 하나님 안에 있는 우리를 위한 참 행복을 찾지 않을 것이다

While [what 그것이 we 우리가 call 부르는 ‘our own 우리 자신의 life’ 삶] remains 남아있는 동안 agreeable 마음에 드는 상태로

we 우리는 will not surrender 항복하지 않을 것이다 it 삶을 to Him 그분께.

* agreeable ; able to be accepted : acceptable 

What 무엇을 then 그러면 can God 하나님께서 do 하실 수 있느냐 in our 우리의 interests 유익에서

but 단지 make 만들고 [‘our 우리 own 자신의 life’삶을] [less 더 적게 agreeable 마음에 드는 상태로 to us 우리에게],
and take away 빼았는 것 말고 [the plausible 타당한 source 원천을 of false 가짜 happiness 행복의]?

* 우리가 망할 자신을 인정하고 즐겨하는 이상 하나님께 삶을 투항시킬 여지가 부재하므로

하나님께서는 우리의 유익을 위해서 우리의 가짜 행복이 솟아 나오는 원천을 제거하시거나

우리가 자신에게 덜 만족스럽도록 만드시는 방법 말고는 달리 하실 수 있는 일이 없으시다
