Earthquake Hymns, 제2부에는 총 열 세편의 찬송시가 들어있다. 앞서 1750년 런던에서 일어났던 지진에 관한 찬송 1부를 펴냈던 찰스는 2부에서도 같은 어조와 주제를 이어가고 있다.

Hymns occasioned by the Earthquake, March 8, 1750, Pt. II.

       Hymn 1
1 And are thy plagues and mercies, Lord, 주의 재앙도 자비도
Already out of mind? 벌써 마음에서 잊어버린 것입니까?
Thy threatening and preserving word 경고와 보호의 말씀도
So quickly cast behind? 어찌 저리 빨리 내던져 버린단 말입니까?

2 The crowd alarmed with short surprise, 사람들 급작스러운 일에 놀라고
And spared, alas! In vain, 목숨부지했으나, 아! 소용없네
Started, and half unsealed their eyes, 눈이 반쯤감겨 졸기 시작하여
And dropped to sleep again. 다시 잠에 빠져 버리네

3 If trouble for a moment seize 고통이 잠시 있었다해도
Their unawakened breast, 저들 잠든 마음에
The trouble but confirm‎s their peace, 그 고통에도 저들 편안하고
The earthquake rocks to rest. 지진도 저들 잘 쉬라고 흔들어주네 

4 Thy words behind their back they cast, 저들이 등 뒤로 던져버린 주의 말씀,
Thy patient pity scorn, 오래 참으시는 긍휼을 저들 비웃고
Nor thank thee for the judgment past, 과거의 주의 판단에 대해 감사치도 않으며
Nor dream of its return. 다시 그 심판이 오리라고 생각지도 않네

5 But whether they thine hand will see, 허나 저들이 주님의 손을 바라 보든지
Or still thine anger dare, 아니며 여전히 주님의 진노에 맞서든지
Saviour of men, we turn to thee, 인간의 구세주시여, 우리가 주님께
With thankfulness, and prayer. 감사와 기도로 돌아섭니다

6 We own thy mercy in the stroke, 주께서 치셨을 때 우리가 주의 자비를 입었나이다
Thy praise to thee we give, 찬양을 드리니
That when the earth beneath us shook, 우리 발 밑의 땅이 흔들렸을 때 
Thou wouldst not let it cleave. 주께서 그 땅을 갈라지지 않게 하셨기 때문이니이다

7 The cause of all, our nation’s sin, 모든 것의 원인, 이 나라의 죄를
We mournfully confess; 우리 애통하며 자복합니다
But thou who didst the shock begin, 그러나 땅을 흔드셨던 주님이
Hast made the motion cease. 그것을 그치게도 하셨네

8 Vapours and damps confessed their God, 증기와 물들도 저들의 하나님을 인정하고  
And did thy word fulfil, 주님의 말씀을 따랐네 (시 148:8 참조)
And earth observed its Maker’s nod, 땅도 그 조성하신 이의 허락을 바라보고 
And trembled, and was still. 떨며, 잠잠했네

9 Accepting our deliverance, Lord, 주님, 우리를 자유케 하사
Our long, or short, reprieve, 길든 짧든 벗어나게 하소서
Thy wondrous goodness we record, 주의 놀라운 선하심을 우리가 전하며
And to thy glory live. 주의 영광 위해 살렵니다

10 We never will the grace forget, 주의 은혜를 절대 잊지 않고 
But thankfully improve, 감사로 드러내겠습니다
And still in songs of praise repeat 또한 늘
Thy providential love. 주님의 섭리하시는 사랑을 찬양하고 찬양하겠습니다

      Hymn 2                               * Awake, Thou That Sleepest 잠자는 자여 일어나라 (엡 5:14) 참조 (웨슬리 설교 3번)
1. Awake, ye guilty souls, awake, 깨어라, 죄에 빠진 영혼들아 깨어라     
Nor sleep, till Tophet takes you in! 도벳이 너희 안에 들어 오지 못하게 잠들지 말라      * 렘 7:31, 19:13 등 참조
The Lord of hosts is ris’n to shake 만군의 주가 일어나시니
The earth polluted with your sin. 너희 죄로 물든 땅을 흔드실 것이라

2 Enter into the Rock, and hide 반석 안으로 들어와
Your trembling spirits in the dust; 떨리는 너희 마음을 티끌 속에 숨기라 
Fly to the clefts, the riven side, 바위 틈, 찢긴 옆구리로 어서와        (* 반석(예수님)의 틈은 예수님의 상한 옆구리로 해석)
And in a dying Saviour trust. 죽으시는 구세주를 믿으라

3 Before the Lord’s fierce anger come, 맹렬한 주의 진노가 임하기 전
Before he bring the vengeful day, 복수의 날이 와
And fix th’ irrevocable doom, 돌이킬 수 없는 멸망으로
And earth’s foundations melt away; 땅의 기초가 녹아 없어지기 전에

4 Before its mouth it opens wide, 그 (땅이) 입을 넓게 벌려
And gasps to feel the final blow; 헐떡이며 최후 공격하기 전에
Firmer support, ye worms, provide, 너희 벌레여, 굳건한 도움을 예비하라     * 벌레: 죄의 비참한 상황 속에 있는 인간
Or sink into eternal woe. 그렇지 않으면 영원한 화에 잠기리

     Hymn 3         * 소돔과 고모라 비유
1 Father, and God of Abraham, hear, 아버지, 또한 아브라함의 하나님이시여, 들으소서
Who didst in faithful mercy send  신실한 자비로
A kind celestial messenger, 하늘의 좋은 사자를 보내사
To save the brother of thy friend, 주님의 친구의 형제들을
While vengeance on the wicked came, 악한자에게 보복이 임할 때 구하시고
Snatched as a brand out of the flame; 불 속에서 꺼낸 나무같이 끄집어 내셨네  * 슥 3:2 참조

2 Hear us, who now for mercy call, 이제 우리가 자비 구하는 것을 들으소서
Us, who in Abraham’s footsteps go, 아브라함의 발자취를 따라 가는 우리 앞에 
Before thy lifted thunder fall, 우레가 떨어지고 
Before thy wrath our land o’erthrow, 주의 진도가 땅에 던져지니
Like Sodom and Gomorrah make, 소돔과 고모라 같이 되었으며
And plunge us in the burning lake. 불못에 우리가 빠져가나이다

3 With kind distinguishing regard 특별히 생각하시어
Preserve the poor afflicted few, 몇 안되는 불쌍한 고통 받는 자들을 지켜 주소서
Who watch for all events prepared, 저들은 일어나는 모든 일들을 기다리며
With gushing eyes the wicked view, 참혹한 광경을 놀란 눈으로 바라 보나이다
Vexed with their deeds, while day by day, 날마다 저들 어쩔 줄 몰라 하네 

We weep our pensive lives away.우리 슬픈 생명 사라져감을 애통해 하나이다

4 Remember, Lord, the righteous man, 주여, 의로운 자를 기억하시고
And us, and ours, far off remove, 저희들을, 또한 우리 사람들이 사라지지 않도록 하여 주소서
Exempted from judicial pain, 형벌을 면하게 하시고
Conducted to the mount above, 저 높은 산에 오르게 하소서
O let us to our Zoar fly, 오 소알로 달려가게 하시고     * 소알: 소돔과 고모라가 멸망할 때 롯이 잠시 피난했던 곳(창 19:23 참조)
And find a place of refuge nigh. 가까운 피난처를 찾게 하소서

 
5 Thou never canst thy foes consume, 당신의 친구들이 먼저 안전하기 전에는
Unless thou first secure thy friends, 주께서는 결코 주의 적들을 파하지 않으시네
Thy friends retard th’ impending doom, 임박한 종말을 주님의 친구들이 더디게 하니
And lo! The judgment still impends, 오, 심판은 여전히 다가와 있네 
Till all who will, escape, and rest  모두가 피하여
Close-sheltered in their Saviour’s breast. 구세주의 품, 안전한 피난처에서 쉴 때까지
    

 Hymn 4
1 Ah! Whither would ye fly 아! 죄악된 머리를 숨기려
To screen your guilty heads? 너희는 어디로 달아나려는가
Danger, and death is always nigh, 위험과 죽음이 언제나 가까이 있으니
Where’er a sinner treads: 그곳을 죄인이 지나네
Impenitent, ye strive  뉘우침 없이, 그저 거길 벗어나려고만
To ’scape with fruitless haste, 헛되이 바둥거리네
Whom earth must swallow up alive, 땅이 저들을 산채로 삼키고
Or hell receive at last. 마침내 지옥이 저들을 맞네                         (민 16: 30 참조)

2 Tremble, ye Christless crowd, 떨지어다, 너희 그리스도 없는 자들
Whom death and hell pursue,  죽음과 지옥을 좇는
Strangers, and enemies to God, 방랑자, 하나님의 원수들이여
Alas! What will ye do? 아! 너희가 어찌하리요
In vain ye change your place, 여전히 그 마음 그대로 
If still unchanged your mind, 너희가 자리를 옮긴다해도 헛되며
Or fly to distant climes, unless 죄를 남겨둔 채로라면
Ye leave your sins behind. 먼 산으로 달아나도 헛되네

3 Your sins for vengeance call, 너희 죄가 보복을 부르고
Your sins the scourge demand, 너희 죄가 징벌을 요구하네
Your sins have judgment brought on all 네 죄로 온 땅에
The sad polluted land: 심판이 임하네
Curst for your only sake  너 자신이 당할 저주로
The earth reels to and fro, 땅이 비틀거리며
And lo! Its deep foundations shake, 보라! 그 깊은 기초가 흔들리고
And Tophet yawns below. 도벳이 아래서 입을 벌리네  * 사 30:33, 렘 7:31, 19:13 등 참조

4 The nations to rebuke, 나라들을 판결 하시려
When God his power displays,  하나님이 능력을 보이시면
Earth trembles at his threat’ning look, 하나님이 땅을 무섭게 보신 즉 땅이 진동하고
And moves, and shifts its place: 움직이고 자리를 바꾸네
Infernal thunders roar, 무시무시한 우렛소리는
And speak his kindled ire, 주의 분을 발하네
And hills dissolve like wax before 죄를 사르시는 불 앞에     
The sin-consuming fire. 산들이 밀랍같이 녹아내리네                      시 97:5

5 Who can escape the wreck 보복의 날
In that vindictive day! 누가 그 파국을 피할 수 있으랴! 
The mountains at his presence quake, 주님 앞에서 산들이 진동하고   (나훔 1:5, 6 참조)    
The mountains flee away; 저 멀리 달아나네
The rocks he rends and tears, 주께서 바위를 깨뜨려 부수시며
And violently throws down, 맹렬히 던져 버시시네
And nature in convulsions bears 주의 찌뿌리심에
The terror of his frown. 두려움으로 자연이 소동하네

6 Strong towers, and massy walls, 견고한 성루와 두터운 벽도
From their foundations leap, 그 터에서 뽑히고
The heaven-invading city falls 하늘의 침노를 당한 도시가
Into a ruinous heap; 잿더미 속으로 떨어지네
His destined prey to seize, 숙명의 제물을 잡으려고
Old ocean bursts his chain, 옛 대양은 그 사슬을 끊으며
The fountains of the great abyss 거대한 심연의 근원이
Are broken up again. 다시금 터져 오른다

7 On hell’s apparent brink 지옥의 언저리에 있는
Who shall the sinner save? 죄인들을 누가 건질 수 있을까
Cities, and men, and kingdoms sink 도시도 사람도 나라도
Into a common grave: 한 무덤에 잠기네
What man the earth survives, 이 땅에 어떤 인간이 살아 남을 수 있을까
The earth to chaos hurled, 종말이 그 쟁기날로
While final ruin fiercely drives  세상을 거칠게 몰아가니
Her ploughshare o’er the world! 땅이 혼돈 속으로 빨려 들어간다

8 One only place remains, 단 한 곳 남은 곳 있으니
And always shall endure, 언제까지나 서 있으리
A place where peace and safety reigns, 평화와 안전이 있는 곳
And sinners rest secure, 죄인이 안전히 쉬는 
An hidden place above, 저 하늘의 숨겨진 곳
Where once the prophet stood, 언젠가 선지자가 서서
And saw the majesty of love, 사랑의 통치자를 보고
And saw the passing God. 하나님이 지나시는 것을 보았던 곳

9 Hither, ye worms, come up, 너희 벌레여 이리호 올라와
Who from his judgments fly, 주의 심판을 피하라
And meet him on the mountain top, 주님을 산 꼭대기에서 만나
And on his love rely; 그의 사랑에 기대어라
Safe in the sacred Rock, 거룩한 반석 안에 안전하리니 
Look down on all beneath, 아래 있는 모든 것을 내려다보며
And at destruction smile, and mock 파괴에 웃어주며
The pointless darts of death. 죽음의 무딘 화살촉을 비웃어라

10 What though the earth remove, 땅이 제아무리 움직인다해도 
Believers cannot fear, 믿는 자는 두려움 없네
Hid in the clefts of dying love, 죽음이, 지옥이 다가올 때
While death, and hell are near; 죽어가는 사랑 그 틈에 숨어있으니
An house believers have 믿는 자들은
Eternal in the skies, 하늘에 영원한 집이 있으며
And find a life beyond the grave, 무덤 저 너머 있는
A life that never dies. 결코 죽지 않는 생명을 찾으리라 
    

 Hymn 5
1 How vain, great God, and worse than vain, 위대하신 하나님, 얼마나 헛되고, 그 헛됨 보다 더 안 좋은지요
How sinful our pretended pain 우리 거짓된 괴로움이
In this our evil day! 이 악한 날에 얼마나 죄악된 것인지요!
Unless we to our smiter turn, 우리를 치시는 이에게 돌아서지 않는다면
The cause of all our evils mourn, 우리 모든 죄악의 원인을 애통해 하며
And cast our sins away. 우리 죄를 버리지 않는다면

2 ’Gainst vice we partially declaim, 우리가 부분적으로는 악을 인정하고
With undiscerning censure blame 나라의 잘못에 대해
Our nation’s wickedness: 무분별하게 비난하지만
But O! The sin that loudest cries 오! 정말 소리 높여 통곡할 죄
For all the vengeance of the skies,  온통 하늘의 보복을 가져올 죄는 
We never once confess. 우리 단 한 번도 고백하지 못하네

3 O might we from our hearts repent 오 우리 마음이
Of scorning him thy pity sent 주를 멸시했던 것을 회개하며 주의 긍휼 보내시어
To heal our sin and grief! 우리의 죄와 슬픔을 고치시기를!
Assist us through thy Spirit’s power, 주의 성령의 능력으로
To own, and feelingly deplore 우리 정죄받을 불신앙을 인정하고
Our damning unbelief. 마음으로 회개하게 하도록 도우소서

4 Convince the wretches who deny 저 불쌍한 자들을 깨닫게 하소서
Their Lord, that stooped for them to die, 저들을 위해 죽기까지 한 주님을 부인하고
Who triumph in his pain, 주님의 고통에 기뻐하며 
Who trample on his precious blood, 주님의 귀한 보혈을 짖밟고
And hate, and scoff the dying God, 죽어가시는 하나님을 미워하고 조롱하며
And crucify again. 십자가에 다시 못 박나이다

5 Confound the misbelieving pride 저들의 잘못된 자만을 꺾으소서 
Of those that impiously divide 저들은 불경스럽게도
Thy dearest Son and thee, 사랑하시는 아들과 성부를 나누고 
Who will not him thine equal own, 동일본질이 아니라고 하며
But madly threaten to dethrone 아들의 신성을
The filial deity. 끌어내리려 위협하는데 안달이나이다

6 And O! Almighty Son of God, 오! 전능하신 하나님의 아들이시여
Into the blind self-righteous crowd 자기 의로 눈멀은 사람들에게
Thy sharpest arrows dart; 주의 날카로운 화살을 쏘아 주소서
The men who infidels condemn, 저들이 불신자를 정죄하나
Nor ever knew themselves the same, 저들이 마음이 그 불신자와 같음을
Mere infidels in heart. 결코 알지 못합니다

7 A formal self-deceiving race, 형식으로 자기를 속이는 자들은
Who mock the counsel of thy grace, 은혜의 권고도
The sense of sins forgiven, 죄사함의 감각
The power of godliness explode, 경건의 능력도
The witness, and the peace of God, 증거, 하나님의 평화와
And faith that leads to heaven. 천국으로 인도하는 믿음도 비웃네 

8 Forgive us, Lord, for such we were, 그랬던 우리 주여, 용서하시고
And all our guilty brethren spare, 죄악된 우리 모든 형제들 또한 살펴 주소서 
Our unbelief reprove, 우리 믿음 없음을 꾸짖으시고
Give us that root of sins to own, 죄의 뿌리 인정하고
And make our wounded spirits groan 사랑 없어 
Beneath their want of love. 상처입은 영혼 신음하게 하소서

9 Let all the faithless nation cry, 믿음 없는 모든 나라 통곡하게 하소서
Redeem us, Saviour, or we die, 구세주여 우리를 구하여 주소서, 그렇지 않으면 
A second death to feel: 둘째 사망같은 죽음을 맞겠나이다                                (요 21:8  참조)
Jesus, thine only name and blood 예수여, 주님의 이름과 피로써
Can save us from the wrath of God, 하나님의 진노에서 우리를 구하실 수 있으며
Can ransom us from hell. 지옥으로부터 우리를 속량하실 수 있나이다

10 On thee our dying souls we cast, 주님께 우리 죽어가는 영혼을 맡기오니
Our dying souls receive at last, 우리 죽어가는 영혼 끝내 받아주소서
And in thy arms embrace, 주님의 팔에 안겨
To triumph in thy pard’ning love, 그 용서하시는 사랑에 기뻐하며
And sing with all the saved above 하늘의 모든 구원 얻은 자들과
Thine everlasting praise. 주님을 영원히 찬양하게 하소서
   

  Hymn 6

1 Righteous Lord, thy people spare! 의로우신 주님, 주의 백성을 건져주소서! 
Lo! We turn at last to thee, 오, 우리 주님께 마침내 돌아서서
Humbly the correction bear 겸손히 우리 지난날 잘못에 대한 
Of our past iniquity, 징계를 받고
Own the cause of our distress, 우리 당한 환란의 원인 
Mournfully our sins confess. 모든 죄를 애통함으로 고백하리이다

2 We thy judgments have abhorred, 우리가 주의 법도를 싫어하며
We thy covenant have broke, 주의 언약을 배반했나이다                            (레 26:15)
Daringly denied our Lord, 우리 주님을 감히 부인하고
Cast away his easy yoke, 쉬운 멍에 던져버렸으니
Would not cast our sins away, 우리 죄를 던질 수 없지 않겠습니까
Would not know our gracious day. 은혜의 날을 알 수 없지 않겠습니까

3 Therefore is the plague begun, 그리하여 재앙은 시작됐고
Therefore doth it still proceed, 여전히 계속되고 있네
Wrath divine by means unknown, 거룩한 분노가 알 수도 없는 것들을 통해 일어나고
Wrath divine hath done the deed, 거룩한 분노가 그 일을 마쳤네
Made the stalls and pastures void, 외양간과 초장이 텅 비고
God our cattle hath destroyed. 하나님이 우리 가축들을 죽이셨네

4 Heavier woes he keeps in store, 우리 여전히 하나님께 돌아가길 거절한다면

If we still refuse to turn, 엄청난 힘을 지닌 분노를 맞서고
Dare his anger’s utmost power, 오래참으시는 긍휼을 비웃는다면 
All his lin'gring pity scorn; 주님은 더 무거운 화를 쌓으시리  
But beneath thy hand we bow, 그러나 주님의 손 아래 우리 엎드려
Stay thy plague, and save us now. 주의 재앙 안에 있사오니, 이제 우리를 구하소서

5 Jesu, save us from our sins, 예수여, 우리 죄에서 우리를 구하시고
Save us from our plague of heart, 마음의 재앙에서 건지소서                   (KJV 출 9:14 참조)
All of unbelief convince, 믿지 않는 모든자에게 확신 주시며
All unto thyself convert, 모두 주님께 돌아서게 하옵소서
Let our sin-sick spirits find 죄로 병든 영혼들이
Thee the healer of mankind. 인류를 고치시는 주님을 찾게 하소서

6 No delight thy goodness hath 주님의 선하심은
In the death of him who dies, 죽음을 기뻐하지 않으시니
Grant us then the living faith, 살아 있는 믿음 허락하소서
Faith that on thy blood relies,  주의 피를 의지하는 믿음
Faith that all thy grace receives, 주의 모든 은혜 받는 믿음
Faith that all thy fulness gives.  주의 모든 완전함을 주는 믿음을

    Hymn 7                노아의 방주 비유
1 Righteous, O Lord, are all thy ways! 오 주님, 주의 길은 모두 의로우니이다
Thy judgments in the ancient days 옛날의 주의 판단이
On unrepenting sinners fell; 회개치 않는 죄인들에게 내려졌네
Thy wrath descended, in a flood, 홍수 가운데 주의 진노가
On a whole world that knew not God, 하나님을 알지 못하는 전 세계에 내려지고
And swept their thoughtless souls to hell. 어리석은 영홈들을 음부로 쓸어버리셨네
Yet in the universal wreck, 여전히 세상이 부서져 있으나
Thou didst a kind exception make, 주의 자녀에게 은총 베푸사
In favour of a child of thine: 예외를 만들어 놓으셨네
Thou didst for him an ark provide, 방주를 마련하시고
And safely with his household hide 안전히 그의 가족과 더불어
The heir of righteousness divine. 거룩한 의의 상속자를 숨기셨네          * 예수님을 가리킴

2 Thou art in every age the same, 모든 세대에 주님은 동일하시며
And when our crimes the vengeance claim, 우리가 범죄하여 보복이 임할때나
And when our measure is filled up; 우리의 죄가 가득 찼을 때도
Thine anger yet again shall burn, 주님은 다시금 노를 불사르시며
And force them who thy mercies spurn, 주의 자비 밀어내는 저들을
To drink the bitter trembling cup. 떨리는 쓴잔을 마시게 하시네
Thou, Lord, out of thy place shalt rise, 주여, 보좌에서 일어나사
Open the windows of the skies, 궁창의 창들을 열어
To plague the people of thine ire, 주의 사람들에게 분을 발하소서
Thy flaming ministers employ, 불의 시종들 삼으시어 (시 104:4 참조)
And terribly at last destroy, 악한 자들을 끝내 처참히
The wicked with a flood of fire. 넘치는 불못으로 멸하소서

3 Great God, if now thy day is near, 위대하신 하나님 주의 날이 지금 가까이 왔다면
Alarm us with a sacred fear, 거룩한 두려움으로 우리를 경고하시고
And snatch from a devoted race, 아들께서 말씀하신 것처럼
A world, who, as thy Son foretold, 옛 세대와 마찬가지로 마음 굳어진 세상
Harden their hearts like those of old, 온통 타락한 길로 살아가는데 마음을 쏟는 세대에서
And live corrupt in all their ways. 끄집어내 주소서
They eat, they drink, they plant, they build, 저들 먹고 마시고 심고 건물을 세우며
Their hearts, with cares and pleasures filled, 염려와 또한 즐거움으로 마음이 가득차
No room can find for thoughts of thee, 주님 생각을 찾아볼 구석이 없네
Till the last dreadful plagues commence, 두려운 최후의 재앙이 시작되어
And sweep their careless spirits hence 어리석은 저들의 영혼이
Into a sad eternity. 슬픈 영원으로 쓸려가기까지

4 But wilt thou not thine own secure, 그러나 주님의 백성들을 지키시지 않을 것입니까
The men, who great distress endure, 큰 환난 당하고
And cruel mockings for thy sake, 주님을 위하여 심한 모욕 당한자
Who tremble at thy tokens nigh, 가까운 주님의 징표에 떠는 자들
And to the ark of mercy fly, 자비의 방주로 달려가니
And Jesu’s wounds their refuge make! 예수님의 상처로 그 피난처 만드시네!
Surely thou wilt thy word fulfil, 진정 주님은 주의 말씀을 이루시며
And give thy cautioned people still, 깨어있는 자들을
Within the sacred ark to rest; 거룩한 방주 안으로 들어가 쉬게 하시리
Ev’n now by faith we enter in, 믿음으로 우리 방주에 들어가
And mount above the floods of sin, 죄의 홍수 위에서
Secure in our Redeemer’s breast. 우리 대속주의 품에서 안전하리

5 Superior to the storms below, 저 아래의 폭풍우
The various storms of human woe, 여러가지 인간의 재난의 풍랑 위에서 
Shut up in Christ we mount, we rise, 그리스도 안에 올라 닫혀지고, 오르네
Buoy’d by his mighty Spirit up, 주께서 능력으로 동하시니
Above the highest mountain’s top, 가장 높은 산꼭대기 위로
Above the ruined earth, and skies. 황폐된 땅과 하늘 위로 떠오르네
When earth and skies are all on fire, 땅과 하늘은 불에 휩싸여 있고
We then shall mount divinely higher, 엘리야가 화염을 누르고 
As by Elijah’s whirlwind driven, 회오리바람에 이끌렸듯
Triumphant o’er the blazing flood, 우리도 더 높이 오르리
The church, and family of God, 교회와 하나님의 가족
Our ark and we shall rest in heaven.우리 방주 또한 우리도 하늘에서 안식하리라
   

 Hymn 8                     감사, 믿음, 예배
1 Rise every soul in Jesus’ name, 모든 영혼아 예수의 이름으로 일어나라
Who after him aspires, 주님을 바라고
The wonders of his love proclaim, 그 놀라운 사랑을 전파하고
And praise him in the fires. 불길 가운데서도 주님을 찬양하는 자들아 

2 Amidst impending plagues and woes, 임박한 환란과 재앙 가운데
Extol his saving power: 주의 구원의 능력을 높이네
Earth hath not yawned, on us to close, 우리 앞에 땅이 벌어지든, 닫혀지든
Or opened to devour. 맹렬히 그 입을 벌리든 간에

3 Howe’er the wisdom of our God 그러나 우리 하나님의 지혜가
With us tomorrow deal, 내일은 우리를 해결해 주시리
We were not yesterday destroyed, 어제는 우리가 멸망당하지 않았고
We now are out of hell. 지금 음부를 벗어났네

4 Wherefore our lives shall show his praise, 그런까닭에 우린 주님을 찬양하는 삶을 살아야 하네
Long as our lives are given, 우리 생명 주어진 동안...
Or snatched from earth obtain a place 아니면 우리 있는 이 땅에서 옮겨져
Immovable in heaven. 저 하늘에서 움직일 수 없으리
    

 Hymn 9
1 How weak the thoughts and vain, 자기를 속이는 사람의 생각은
Of self-deluding men! 얼마나 약하고 허무한 것이가
Men, who fixed to earth alone, 땅만 의지하는 사람은
Think their houses shall endure, 그의 집이 영원히 있다고 생각하며  (시 49:11 참조)
Fondly call their lands their own, 어리석게도 저들의 토지를

To their distant heirs secure. 대대로 안전한 유업이라 부르네

2 Let us in God confide, 주님을 의지하자
They for themselves provide, 저들은 자신들을 위하여
Lasting settlements they make, 영원한 거처를 예비하며
Prudently their views extend, 신중히 생각하여
Thought for future ages take, 장래까지 내다보며
Live, as time would never end. 시간이 끝나지 않을 것처럼 살아가네

3 How soon may God rebuke 얼마나 곧 하나님께서
Their folly with a look! 저들이 어리석음을 보시고 꾸짖으실텐가!
Caused by the Almighty’s frown, 전능하신 주께서 찡그리시니
When the sudden earthquake comes, 돌연 지진이 일어나며
Then their hopes are tumbled down, 저들의 희망이 뒤집히고
Then their houses are their tombs. 집들이 저들의 무덤이 되네

4 Their lands alas! And they, 아! 저들의 땅도, 저들도
Are swept at once away, 한꺼번에 휩쓸려 가도고
Gaping earth receives them all, 땅이 크게 벌어져 저들을 받으며

Swallows up the nation’s boast; 나라의 자만을 삼키네
See the pride of ages fall, 보라 세대의 교만이 떨어져
In a fatal moment lost! 종말의 순간 사라지네!

5 How happy then are we, 오 주님 위에 집을 지은
Who build, O Lord, on thee! 우리는 얼마나 행복한지요
What can our foundation shock? 무엇이 우리의 기초를 흔들리요
Though the shattered earth remove, 땅이 갈라져 움직인다해도
Stands our city on a Rock, 우리의 도성은 반석 위에
On a Rock of heavenly love. 하늘의 사랑의 반석 위에 서 있네

6 An house we call our own, 우리의 집은 
Which cannot be overthrown, 뒤집힐 수 없네
In the general ruin sure, 모든 게 폐허가 되고
Storms and earthquakes it defies, 폭풍우와 지진이 덤벼들어도
Built immovably secure, 견고하고 안전하게 세워졌네 
Built eternal in the skies. 영원한 하늘에 세워졌네

7 High on Immanuel’s land, 임마누엘의 땅 높은 곳에
We see the fabric stand, 구조가 있는 것을 보네  
From a tottering world remove, 요동하는 세상에서
To our steadfast mansions there: 그곳에 있는 우리의 영원한 집으로 옮겨졌네
Our inheritance above, 위에 있는 우리의 유업은
Cannot pass from heir to heir. 상속자에서 상속자로 옮겨지지 못하네

8 Those amaranthine bowers, 영원한 안식처는
Inalienably ours, 누구에게도 줄 수 없는 우리들의 것
Bloom, our infinite reward, 영원한 상급이여 피어나라
Rise, our permanent abode, 우리의 영원한 거처여 일어나라
From the founded world prepared, 조성된 세상으로부터 예비되어
Purchased by the blood of God. 하나님의 피로 얻게 되었네

9 O might we quickly find 오 우리 속히
The place for us designed; 우리를 위해 마련된 그 곳을 찾게 되기를 
See the long-expected day 보라 오랫동안 기다려온
Of our full redemption here! 우리의 완전한 구원의 날이 여기 있도다!
Let the shadows flee away, 어두움은 물러가게 하소서
Let the new-made world appear. 새 창조의 세상이 나타나게 하소서

 
10 High on thy great white throne, 크고 흰 보좌에 높이 앉으신
O King of saints, come down; 오 성도들의 왕이시여
In the New Jerusalem, 새 예루살렘으로 오소서
Now triumphantly descend, 이제 승리로 내려오셔서
Let the final trump proclaim 최후의 나팔 울리게 하시며
Joys begun which ne’er shall end! 끝없는 기쁨이 시작되게 하소서

      Hymn 10
1 Lord of hosts, we bow before thee, 만군의 주여, 주님 앞에 우리가 절하며
The prophetic word receive, 예언적 말씀을 듣나이다
Now our prostrate souls adore thee, 지금 엎드린 우리의 영혼이 주님을 경배하며
Now we tremble, and believe: 떨며, 믿나이다
Thou the promised sign hast given, 약속하신 증표를 주셨으니 
(O that all might understand!) (오 그 모든 것을 이해하게 하소서!)
“I will shake the earth, and heaven; "내가 땅과 하늘을 흔들것이라"
I will shake the sea, and land.” "내가 바다와 땅을 흔들것이라"

2 Wars, and plagues, and great distresses, 전쟁과 역병, 큰 환란
The tremendous day forerun, 두려운 날이 이르리니
Earthquakes felt in divers places 지진이 여러 곳에서 감지되었고
Show the latter times begun, 최후의 따가 시작되었음을 보여주네 
Want, and national confusion, 빈곤하고 나라가 혼란하며
Boding grief, and panic fear, 슬픔의 징조와 공포가
Mark the times of restitution, 회복의 때를 알리며
Speak the great restorer near. 위대하신 회복자가 가까이 오셨음을 말해주네

3 Never can thy word be broken, 주의 말씀은
Though the world shall pass away; 세상이 없어진다 해도 깨어지지 않네
Quickened by another token, 또 다른 징표로 재촉하니
Lord, we wait to see thy day, 주여 우리가 주의 날 보기를
Big with earnest expectation, 온통 간절한 기대로 기다립니다
Swells our heart to make thee room, 우리 마음이 주님을 모시려 부풀어 오르니
Come, desire of every nation, 오소서, 모든 나라들이 바라는 주님이시여                * KJV 학개 2:7 만국의 보배
To thy human temple come! 사람의 전에 오소서 

4 Bring the kingdom of thy Spirit, 주의 성령의 나라 임하게 하소서
Joy, and righteousness, and peace; 기쁨과 의로움, 평화
Purchased by thy dying merit, 죽음의 공로로 얻게된 나라
Every child of man possess; 모든 사람의 자녀가 소요하게 하소서
Come to us, who languish for thee, 우리에게 오소서, 주님을 바라여 쇠약하진
Us, who long thy face to see, 우리에게, 주의 얼굴 보기를 고대하니
Fill the latter house with glory, 영광으로 최후의 집을 채우시고
Then receive us up to thee. 우리를 주님께로 받아주소서

   Hymn 11
1 Ye servants of the Lord, 주의 종들아
In Jesu’s praises join, 함께 예수님을 찬양하자
Who now confirm‎s his word, 주의 말씀을 확정하시고
And sends another sign, 또 다른 증표
Sign of his day, and kingdom near: 그의 날의 증표를 보내시고, 그 나라가 가까왔네
Look up, and see your Lord appear! 눈을 들어 너희 주님이 나타나심을 보라!

2 His coming he foreshows 그의 오심을
By famine, plague, and war, 기근과 역병, 전쟁
And epidemic woes 전염병으로 미리 보이시며
His swift approach declare, 신속히 오심을 알리네
Trembles the earth to find him near: 주가 가까이 임아심을 보고 땅이 떠네
Look up, and see your Lord appear! 눈을 들어 너희 주님이 나타나심을 보라!

3 Hark how all nature groans 모든 자연이
In pangs of second birth! 두번째 탄생의 고통으로 얼마나 탄식하는지 들어보라
Expect, ye ransomed ones, 대속함 받은 너희들아
A new-created earth, 새롭게 창조된 땅을 바라라
The ruin of the old is near: 이전 땅의 멸망이 가까웠으니
Look up, and see your Lord appear!  눈을 들어 너희 주님이 나타나심을 보라!

4 His tokens we espy, 주의 징표를 분별하고
And now lift up our head, 이제 머리를 들어
And in the earthquake cry, 지진가운데 애통하네
It is my Saviour’s tread! 우리 구세주가 지나가신다!
He comes to save his servants here: 여기 주의 종들을 구하려 오신다.
Look up, and see your Lord appear. 눈을 들어 너희 주님이 나타나심을 보라!

5 We do with joy look up, 나라의 환란 중에
In national distress,  기쁨으로 눈을 들어
With confidence of hope, 소망으로 확신하네
To meet the Prince of Peace, 평화의 왕을 만날 것을...
We, unappalled in general fear, 큰 공포도 두려워하지 않네
Look up, and see our Lord appear.눈을 들어 너희 주님이 나타나심을 보라!

6 Our Lord appears again, 우리 주님이 다시 나타나신다
His glorious power to show, 그의 영광스러운 능력을 보이신다
He comes, he comes to reign, 그가 오신다. 이땅의 성도들과
With all his saints below, 다스리러 오신다
Judgment is MERCY’s harbinger; 심판은 자비의 전조 
The earth is gone—and Christ is here! 땅은 없어졌고 그리스도는 여기에 계신다!
 

    Hymn 12
1 The sinners how blest, 용서함 받은 죄인들은
Who pardon receive! 얼마나 복된가!
In trouble we rest, 환난 중에도 안식하며
In dying we live, 죽음 중에도 우리 살아가네
In danger secure, 위험 중에도 안전하며
Whom Jesus hath loved, 예수님께서 사랑하신 자들
Our footing is sure, 우리의 기초는 확실하네
Though earth is removed. 지구가 사라진다해도

2 The hairs of our head, 우리의 머리카락은
Are registered all, 전부 세신바 되었으니
Not one, he hath said, 주님 말씀하시길
Shall perish, or fall 그 하나라도
Without the permission 한량없는 은혜의 허락없이는
Of infinite grace,  없어지거나 떨어지지 않네
Whose blessed decision 복된 결정을
We gladly embrace. 우리 기꺼이 받아들이네

3 While thus we confide  이렇듯 우리는
In Jesus’s blood, 예수의 피를 믿네
Whatever betide, 어떠한 것이
Shall turn to our good, 우리의 소유를 엎는 일이 생겨도
When sorrows surround us, 슬픔이 우리를 둘러쌀 때
Our joys shall increase, 우리 기쁨은 커지고
And earthquakes shall ground us 지진은
In permanent peace. 우리 영원한 평화의 기초가 되리

4 Plague, famine, and war 역병, 기근, 전쟁도
But quicken our hope, 우리 소망을 재촉하며
And bid us prepare, 준비하라 이르고
And bid us look up; 위를 보라 이르네
Assured by each warning, 경보가 울릴 때마다
His kingdom is near, 주의 나라가 가까웠음을 확신하네
The Lord is returning, 주님은 다시 오시며
And soon shall appear. 곧 나타나시리리

5 Appear in the skies, 공중에 나타나소서
Thou Saviour of men, 인류의 구세주시여
Our bodies shall rise 우리 몸이
To meet thee again, 다시 주님을 만나려 일어나며
Entombed in the center, 무덤에 있던
We shall be restored, 우리가 회복되고
And gloriously enter 영광스럽게
The joy of our Lord. 주님의 기쁨에 들어가리이다
  

  Hymn 13.
1 Come, desire of nations, come, 오소서, 나라들이 바라는 주님 오소서        * KJV 학개 2:7 만국의 보배
Hasten, Lord, the general doom, 주여 마지막 날을 서둘러 주소서
Hear the Spirit and the bride, 성령이여 신부여 들으소서
Come, and take us to thy side. 오셔서 우리를 주님 옆에 두소서

2 Thou who hast our place prepared, 우리의 거처를 예비하신 주님
Make us meet for our reward, 상급을 얻게 하소서
Then with all thy saints descend, 모든 주의 성도들이 내려오고
Then our earthly trial end. 이 땅의 시험이 끝나게 하소서

3 Mindful of thy chosen race, 주께서 선택하신 백성을 기억하시고
Shorten these vindictive days, 보복의 날을 줄여주소서
Who for full redemption groan, 완전한 구속 얻으려 신음하는
Hear us now, and save thine own. 우리의 소리를 이제 들으시고 주의 백성을 구원하소서

4 Now destroy the man of sin, 이제 죄인들을 멸하시고
Now thine ancient flock bring in, 이제 주의 옛 양떼를 불러 모으시며
Filled with righteousness divine, 거룩하신 의로 채우시고
Claim a ransomed world for thine. 대속함 얻은 주의 세상을 찾으소서

5 Plant the heavenly kingdom here, 하늘나라를 이곳에 세우시며
Glorious in thy saints appear, 주의 성도들에게 영광으로 나타나시어
Speak the sacred number sealed, 인침을 받은 거룩한 수의 사람들에게 말씀하시고 
Speak the mystery fulfilled. 비밀이 이루어졌다고 말씀하소서                      (골로새서 1:26 참조)

6 Take to thee thy royal power, 왕권을 가지사
Reign, when sin shall be no more, 다스리소서, 죄가 더 이상 없으며 
Reign, when time no more shall be, 다스리소서, 시간도 더 이상 없으리         
Reign to all eternity. 영원히 다스리소서
