짧은감상 Bernstein/IPO/Helicon Mahler Symphony No. 9 (live, 1985)

Make no mistake: this is the greatest recording of the mountain Everest of all symphonies in the late 19th century (some, like myself, will argue it's the GREATEST music ever written in human history).

That Bernstein made Mahler symphonies ramshackle couldn't be further from the truth. No, his Mahler was not only a ball of fire it was also shapely and very cohesive. This live recording made in Tel Aviv circa 1985 is case in point. Yes, it is loaded with extreme emotions that oftentimes touch the border of insanity, but Bernstein is in perfect control to present the work in a most convincingly cogent form one can possibly imagine. He gets the balance, dynamics, tempi, tempo relations, proportions, instrumental colors, absolutely RIGHT. Israel Philharmonic responded with everything they got and played out of their true hearts for their beloved visiting conductor.

The analogue sonics are well balanced for most part, warm and vibrant.

In short, nobody comes close even within miles to Bernstein's way with this music and anybody who has faintest idea of what this symphony is all about owes himself to listen to the CD.

동감입니다. 전번에는 약에 취해 듣느라 중간에 잠이 들었었는데 어제는 처음부터 끝까지 들어봤습니다. 말러 9번 연주음반 중 최고라고 할 만합니다. 이 음반 놓치시면 절대 후회하실 겁니다.
