HTD(=High Torque Drive)

HTD stands for High Torque Drive and refers to a drive system utilizing belting that has a curvilinear tooth, improving on torque capacity over traditional timing and V belt drives.

WHAT IS AN HTD TIMING BELT? 

HTD stands for high torque drive.

HTD timing belts are a type of synchronous belt featuring teeth that are rounded. They differ from trapezoidal timing belts in that their tooth profiles are deeper and more closely spaced. Pitches in HTD belts will range from 3 to 20 millimeters and are usually available with a double-sided tooth option. 

WHAT IS A CURVILINEAR TOOTH PROFILE? 

HTD® Timing Belts feature a curvilinear tooth profile. This type of tooth profile was designed in the 1970s to improve upon the trapezoidal tooth profile. Designed for high torque, high-speed applications, curvilinear timing belt tooth profiles have a deeper tooth than trapezoidal tooth profile belts and deliver less backlash than trapezoidal tooth profile timing belts. 

Timing belts with a curvilinear profile give the belt a greater contact area with the pulley, leading to a smaller unit pressure on the tooth itself. The effect, in turn, is improved performance depending on your particular application.

Are 2GT and GT2 belts the same?

I see that sometimes belts are called 2GT and sometimes (other?) belts are called GT2?

Are these two names for the same thing or are these two different standards?


2GT means 2mm Gear Teeth, which indicates the spacing. GT2 means Gates 2, which indicates the shape of the teeth. However, many cheap clone outfits use GT2 and 2GT interchangeably to indicate belts that are, in fact, both 2GT and GT2.


2GT stands for a type of timing belt that is used to transfer rotational motion into linear motion. The belt is made of fiberglass reinforced rubber and has rounded tooth profiles that are spaced 2 mm apart. 2GT belts are commonly used in 3D printers and other small precision machines. 



What is the difference between 2gt and 3GT belts?

GT3 belt is just an improved version of GT2 belt - both are made for GT2 pulleys. As I understand it, GT2-3M belts are also known as 3GT belts, and are also considered GT2 belts with 3mm pitch. They also are thicker with total 2.40mm thickness, some is in the actual belt thickness and some in the larger teeth size.



What does GT2 belt mean?

GT2 (Gates Tooth 2) is a standardized code for a belt with rounded tooth profiles, signifying that the teeth are spaced 2 mm apart 




What is the difference between GT2 and HTD timing belts?

The HTD belts sold by FRC supplier are 5mm pitch and the GT2 belts sold by FRC suppliers are 3mm pitch. The difference in load capacity between these types of belts has more to do with the size class (5mm vs 3mm) than it does with HTD vs GT2.
