[Deep Reflection] When I Feel the Lord Is Not by My Side(Rev. 22:14–15) [
1. Introduction
Ezekiel was not merely a prophet who prophesied with words. While Jeremiah also demonstrated the Word through his actions on occasion, Ezekiel was, in particular, a “prophet of action” who revealed God’s will through his own body and way of life. God not only had him proclaim the coming judgment and restoration with his mouth but also made his very life a sign of the Word. Therefore, to understand Ezekiel, we must look not only at what he said but also at the era in which he was sent, to whom he was sent, and how he lived out that message.
By the time Ezekiel was taken into Babylonian captivity and began his ministry, Judah’s fate had already been set on a course toward judgment. The land was filled with idolatry and bloodshed that had accumulated since the time of Manasseh, and the people did not repent despite repeated warnings. God declared that the end of the land of Israel had come and that He would judge them according to their deeds (Ezek. 7:2–4). This does not mean that God had not been patient for a long time. He had been patient and waited, but because the people continued to reject His grace and stubbornly rebel until the very end, the time had finally come for His discipline to be carried out.
If so, why did God send Ezekiel, knowing that judgment had already been determined and that most of the people would not listen? God wanted to leave evidence that He had not abandoned that generation. He wanted them to know that a prophet was among them, whether they listened or not (Ezek. 2:5). Even though it might have seemed as if God were absent and the nation was collapsing, God was still speaking to and working through His servant. Ezekiel’s presence and obedience served as a historical sign that God did not remain silent even in the age of judgment.
This foreshadows the life of Jesus, who came to His own land but was not received by His own people (John 1:10–11). Jesus came to the lost sheep of the house of Israel to preach repentance and the gospel of the kingdom, but the religious leaders and political powers rejected Him in order to protect their vested interests. The sick, the demon-possessed, and the marginalized flocked to Jesus, but the leaders, unwilling to relinquish what they had, resolved to kill the Son of God. Just as Ezekiel was sent among a rebellious people, so Jesus came among His own hard-hearted people.
Yet not everyone refused to listen. Even among the rebellious people, there were those with ears to hear, and in Jesus’ day, there were disciples who accepted His message. Even today, many seek only words of comfort and turn away from the message of repentance and judgment, but those who long for life hear the voice God is speaking in this age. Therefore, we must not give up preaching just because the results seem small. If even one person hears, repents, and prepares for eternal life, the mission of proclamation is not in vain.
The similarities between Ezekiel and Jesus are evident in their title “Son of Man,” their call around the age of thirty, the opening of the heavens, the presence of God’s Spirit and Word, their being sent to their own rebellious people, and their bearing witness to the Word through their lives. This message focuses on the first two of these similarities.
Both Ezekiel and Jesus were sent to their own people, who were unwilling to listen, and they spoke to their fellow countrymen in the language they knew best, not in a foreign tongue. Therefore, in this session, we will examine Ezekiel’s title “Son of Man,” his calling, the reason he was sent to a rebellious people, the parallels between his life and that of Jesus, his mission to his fellow countrymen who spoke the same language, and how those who hear and proclaim the Word in this age should live.

2. What Do Ezekiel’s Title “Son of Man” and His Calling at Age Thirty Reveal?
When God called Ezekiel, He said, “Son of Man.” Although the “Son of Man” is also mentioned in the Psalms to convey the idea of “What is man that You are mindful of him?”—God’s consistent use of the title “Son of Man” for a single prophet is particularly prominent in the Book of Ezekiel. As I counted while preparing this sermon, this title appears ninety-three times in the Book of Ezekiel. Although there is one instance where it was used for Daniel, Ezekiel stands alone in the Old Testament as the only figure to whom this title is applied so intensively (Dan. 8:17).
Ezekiel 2:1 He said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak to you.”
“Son of Man” means “son of a human being.” Although Ezekiel saw heavenly visions and received God’s word, he remained, above all, a frail human being. The power that enabled him to stand and speak did not come from himself but from God’s Spirit and authority. After God said, “Son of man, stand on your feet,” He spoke to him and appointed him as a watchman over the house of Israel to warn them of the words he had heard (Ezek. 2:1–3, 3:17). In the Valley of Dry Bones, God asked, “Son of man, can these bones live?” and in the vision of the new temple, He told him to take to heart what he saw with his eyes and heard with his ears (Ezekiel 37:3, 40:4). The “Son of Man” is one who hears, sees, obeys, and conveys God’s message.
Jesus also repeatedly referred to Himself as “the Son of Man.” He said that the Son of Man has the authority to forgive sins, that He would be handed over to men to be put to death, and that He would come again in the clouds with power and glory (Matt. 9:6, 17:22–23, 24:30). Although Jesus is true God, He came as true man to save us. He truly bore human weakness and suffering and obeyed the Father’s will to the very end. Therefore, the title “Son of Man,” which is centered on Ezekiel, directs our gaze toward Jesus Christ, who would come as the Son of Man and live out the Word in the flesh.
The beginning of Ezekiel’s ministry also foreshadows Jesus. In the thirtieth year, while Ezekiel was among the exiles by the Chebar River, the heavens were opened, and he saw a vision of God. The word of the LORD came to him specifically, and the power of the LORD was upon him (Ezek. 1:1–3). Similarly, when Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River at about the age of thirty, the heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form of a dove, and He then began His public ministry (Luke 3:21–23). The fact that, around the age of thirty, the opening of the heavens, the work of the Holy Spirit, and the word of God marked the starting point of their ministries is a striking parallel.
This resemblance is not a mere coincidence of outward appearance. God had already imprinted the footsteps of the coming Christ upon the life of Ezekiel, the “prophet of action.” Ezekiel could not live as he pleased; he had to convey exactly what he saw and heard and carry out the signs God commanded. Jesus, too, did not come to do His own will, but to fulfill the will of the Father who sent Him (John 6:38). While Ezekiel’s obedience was a sign limited to a human prophet, Jesus’ obedience was the very embodiment that fully accomplished the plan of salvation.
Therefore, the title “Son of Man” does not refer solely to weakness. It encompasses the mission to rely entirely on God, to not conceal the message received, and to embody that message in one’s life even in the midst of suffering. A true servant of God is not someone who merely asserts what is right with words. Even if loss, loneliness, and rejection come because of the message he has proclaimed, he must live out that message. The path of the Son of Man that Ezekiel first walked illuminates the life of Jesus Christ and shows us what those entrusted with the Word today should be like.
3. What was the condition of the rebellious people to whom Ezekiel was sent?
The people to whom Ezekiel was sent were not Gentile nations who did not know God, but the descendants of Israel who had received God’s grace yet rebelled against Him. God called them “a rebellious people,” “those who have turned their backs on me,” and “those with brazen faces and hardened hearts” (Ezek. 2:3–4). The term “rebellious” does not simply mean making mistakes or lacking knowledge. It refers to a state of rebellion in which they defy God even after hearing His Word and persist in their own ways despite repeated grace and warnings.
Ezekiel 2:3 He said to me, “Son of man, I am sending you to the people of Israel—a rebellious people, those who have turned their backs on me. They and their ancestors have sinned against me to this very day.”
Israel was the nation God had chosen from among many nations to be a kingdom of priests and a holy people (Exodus 19:5–6). Yet they forgot that grace and worshiped idols, even going so far as to commit the abomination of sacrificing their children to Molech. Manasseh did evil in the sight of the LORD and shed much innocent blood (2 Kings 21:1–16). According to tradition, he had the prophet Isaiah, who was urging repentance, sawed in two. The people who had received grace had gone so far as to hate and even kill God’s servant; they were in a state of utter rebellion.
God was long-suffering, but when their sins were full, He declared the end. In Ezekiel 7, He repeatedly said, “It is over,” and declared that He would judge them according to their deeds and punish them for their abominations (Ezek. 7:2–4). Therefore, the time of Ezekiel was not an ordinary period when national judgment could be averted with a little more persuasion. It was already a time when discipline through Babylon was being carried out, and the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple was approaching. The tribulations the people were enduring did not arise because God was absent, but because God was judging them for their long-standing rebellion.
The hallmark of a rebellious people is that they have eyes but do not see, and ears but do not hear. God said that Ezekiel lived among a rebellious people, and that even though they had eyes to see and ears to hear, they neither saw nor heard (Ezek. 12:2). The problem was not a lack of information. Although the prophet’s warnings were given, they turned a blind eye because they did not want to listen. When the heart is hardened, even when signs of judgment appear right before their eyes, they cling to their self-assurance, claiming all is well, and regard words urging repentance as an uncomfortable attack.
The same danger exists today. Simply because they live a life of faith and attend church, people may assume their salvation is automatically secure, and they may find the message calling them to forsake sin and turn back burdensome. They may also feel reassured without examining the Word for themselves if a leader says everything is fine. However, if the blind follow a blind leader, they will both fall into a pit (Matt. 15:14). Believers must not only consider who promised peace but also discern whether those words align with the truth of Scripture and the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
Even when I preached about repentance and the gospel of the kingdom, many people thought I was speaking words that were too stern and dangerous, rather than words that were easy to hear. When I preached messages that challenged existing religious systems and vested interests, I worried that someone might harm me, and I was even advised to stop speaking. However, it is the Lord who rules over life and death. If the message entrusted by the Lord is clear, it must be proclaimed exactly as it is while we are alive. The more rebellious the times, the more God’s servants must hold fast to the truth of the Word rather than worry about people’s reactions.
4. Why was it necessary to preach the Word even to a people who would not listen?
God did not guarantee Ezekiel success. Rather, He first informed him that the people were so rebellious that there was a high likelihood they would not listen. Nevertheless, He commanded, “Whether they listen or fail to listen, you must speak My words” (Ezek. 2:7). The prophet’s responsibility lies not in manipulating people’s reactions but in faithfully proclaiming the message received from God. It is the Holy Spirit’s work to cause people to listen and turn back; the prophet must bear witness even when the results are not yet visible.
Ezekiel 2:5 “They are a rebellious people; whether they listen or do not listen, they will know that a prophet is among them.”
This passage reveals God’s heart—that even in the midst of judgment, He does not completely abandon His people. When the nation collapses, the temple burns, and exile continues, people may think that God has departed. Yet God raised up Ezekiel among the exiles and continued to speak through him. This was so that, when the people later looked back on their history, they would know that God did not judge them without warning and that He sent a true prophet even in the darkest of times.
Therefore, Ezekiel’s ministry cannot be evaluated solely based on the visible results of his time. Even though many people turned away from him at the time, his words and actions were recorded and bore witness to God’s justice and faithfulness for future generations. As we read Ezekiel’s account, we understand that the Babylonian invasion was not merely the result of coincidental international circumstances, but was God’s discipline for Israel’s sins. We also see that even in the midst of judgment, God spoke and prepared a path to restoration. The prophet’s obedience became an instrument of God that transcended time to awaken future generations.
I, too, have preached repentance and the gospel of the kingdom for many years, but at first, few people showed interest. From 2013 to 2020, I proclaimed the necessity of repentance for salvation, yet only a handful listened. In 2020, I began to convey more specifically the fact that repentance—which brings liberation from curses—is necessary for those who are sick, demon-possessed, marginalized, and oppressed by poverty. Not everyone listened, but those who were spiritually thirsty and longed to be freed from real suffering sought out this message. The fact that few listened does not diminish the value of the Word.
God also uses videos and recordings as channels today. If the words are preserved rather than disappearing on the spot, even those who cannot hear them now will be able to hear them in the future when they need them. Through live-streamed sermons and YouTube videos, I have left a record of my sermons and my faith journey; at the time of this message, the number of videos had reached 9,180. I have not deleted even my earlier, imperfect sermons because the process of one person’s learning and transformation also serves as a record. Even if the response is small at the time of the sermon, one day someone whose ears have been opened may come and hear the Word of life.
What matters is not the number but faithfulness. If even one person hears, repents, and prepares for their future, the effort of proclaiming the Word is never in vain. After reaching heaven, there may be someone who gives thanks for the grace that opened the way for them to hear God’s voice in that era. Therefore, those entrusted with the Word must not open or close their mouths based on the crowd’s applause or immediate results. If God has spoken, they must proclaim it—whether people listen or not—and leave behind evidence that God was with them in that era.
5. How did Ezekiel foreshadow the life of Jesus Christ through his actions?
Ezekiel did not stop at explaining what God had shown him; he expressed it through his own life. God used the food he ate, the way he lay down, his silence, and his movements as signs. His body and daily life were no longer solely for his personal convenience. They became instruments of revelation, visibly conveying the judgment, suffering, and restoration that God wished to make known to the people. This is the path of the prophetic man of action.
Prophetic action is not a performance designed to gain people’s recognition. It is obedience in which the one who delivers the message first bears the weight of that message with his own body. A person who merely speaks can change his expression or back down if the response is negative, but a person whose life has become a sign testifies to the Word by staking his very existence on it. Ezekiel had to carry out the actions God commanded, even though he knew the rebellious people would mock and reject him. The loneliness and suffering he endured reveal the kind of sacrifice a true prophet must make.
Jesus is the perfect example of one who lived out the Word. He came to His own people but was not received; He was even forsaken by His disciples, spat upon, mocked, flogged, and crucified. Even those who had witnessed countless miracles and heard His teachings in Jerusalem did not stand up for Him in the face of His suffering. The sinless One was forsaken and walked the path of death alone. Ezekiel’s solitary life of living out the Word amidst a rebellious people foreshadows this path of Jesus.
Neither Ezekiel nor Jesus compromised their mission to preserve their own comfort. Ezekiel delivered the uncomfortable message that judgment was coming, and Jesus called for repentance while rebuking those who had turned the temple into a den of thieves. The religious leaders sought to kill Jesus not because His words were wrong, but because they feared that their authority and interests would be shaken. When the truth exposes the sins of those in power, those who do not accept the truth as a call to repentance will seek to eliminate the one who proclaims it.
There was a time when I, too, had to walk a lonely path because of the Word. I faced pressure to stop preaching because I was sharing messages that were not commonly taught by the established church, and I even feared for my life. Having survived several life-threatening situations, I came to realize that it is the Lord who sets the boundaries of life. If the Lord says, “This far and no further,” I must be prepared to let go; but as long as I live, I must proclaim the Word of truth as guided by the Holy Spirit. This experience is not a basis for creating doctrine, but a personal testimony showing what it means to live out the Word I have received.
Our faith also requires consistency between our words and our lives. It is not difficult to speak the truth when all is well, but it is not easy to remain obedient to the point of suffering loss and standing alone because of that Word. However, if we hear in advance that a difficult path may lie ahead, when actual suffering comes, we can endure it, thinking, “What was to come has come.” The lives of Ezekiel and Jesus do not lead us to worship suffering itself, but teach us obedience—to hold fast to the Father’s will even in the midst of suffering.
6. How was Jesus rejected by His own people, just as Ezekiel was?
Although Jesus is the Creator of the world, the world did not recognize Him; though He came to His own land, His own people did not receive Him. Yet to all who did receive Him—that is, to those who believed in His name—He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:10–12). This passage shows that rejection and acceptance occurred simultaneously. Just because the majority rejected Him does not mean that everyone perished; even in the midst of a rebellious generation, there were those who recognized Jesus and followed Him.
John 1:11-13 He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God—who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Those who came running to Jesus were mostly people who were sick, possessed by demons, treated as sinners, and marginalized by society. For them, healing, salvation, and mercy were far more urgent than upholding religious privileges. They cried out, “Son of David, have mercy on me.” In contrast, the chief priests, scribes, and Pharisees viewed the people gathering around Jesus as a threat to their influence. The House of Herod also perceived the emergence of a true king as a political threat. As religious and political interests intertwined, a faction formed that sought to eliminate the Messiah.
Even in Jesus’ day, people failed to see the truth despite witnessing miracles. When the heart grows hard, one fails to understand even when hearing with one’s ears and fails to recognize even when seeing with one’s eyes. Jesus cited Isaiah’s prophecy to point out the people’s hardened hearts and said, “Let those who have ears listen” (Matt. 13:13–15). The ear that hears the truth is not merely physical hearing. It is a heart willing to set aside one’s own thoughts and vested interests and turn toward the Word.
Though the disciples were not perfect, they listened to Jesus’ words. Jesus declared that their eyes were blessed to see and their ears to hear, noting that many prophets and righteous people longed to see what they saw but did not see it, and to hear what they heard but did not hear it (Matt. 13:16–17). God’s mysteries are not automatically revealed to those with great learning or high status. They are revealed to those who receive them like little children, repent, and follow Him.
Today, we have easy access to Bible expositions, videos, and various resources, and we can quickly organize a wealth of information through artificial intelligence. This is an excellent environment for learning, comparing, and verifying. However, since artificial intelligence tends to synthesize universally accepted doctrines and majority opinions accumulated over time to provide answers, it cannot fully replace all the truths that the Holy Spirit is revealing in this age. I confess that after the unclean spirits departed, as I relied solely on the Holy Spirit, I experienced the Word connecting more clearly than ever before. While this is a good era for preaching, it is also a dangerous time when familiar conventional wisdom can spread even more rapidly as if it were the truth. We must not accept every answer at face value but discern it under the guidance of the Bible and the Holy Spirit.
Hearing the truth is ultimately each person’s responsibility. Even if a leader says something is fine, if you sense that it does not align with the Word in your heart, you must consult the Bible, pray, and verify it for yourself. No one else can believe or judge on your behalf. The path of faith can sometimes be lonely, but if you know the path walked by Ezekiel and Jesus before you, you will not lose heart when rejection and suffering come. Even if everyone else leaves, the Lord is watching, and those who have ears to hear will surely hear the Word.
7. Why did God send Ezekiel to his own people, who spoke the same language?
God did not send Ezekiel to various nations with different languages or difficult dialects, but to the people of Israel. He said that if He had sent him to a foreign nation speaking a language they could not understand, they would have listened (Ezekiel 3:5–6). This passage reveals Israel’s stubbornness even more clearly. They did not fail to hear because they did not understand the language; rather, even though they clearly understood, they refused to listen.
Ezekiel 3:5-6 I am not sending you to a people of a different language or to a people whose speech is difficult; I am sending you to the house of Israel. I am not sending you to nations of a different language or to a people whose speech is difficult, so that you cannot understand their words. If I had sent you to them, they would certainly have listened to you.
At the same time, this passage shows that God entrusts His servant with the language and audience he is best equipped to handle. Ezekiel was not first called to learn a foreign language and go to distant nations. He was to awaken his own people to their sins and convey God’s will in the language he knew best. Jesus also said that during His public ministry, He was sent primarily to the lost sheep of the house of Israel, and He preached the gospel of the kingdom in the land of Judea in a language they could understand (Matt. 15:24).
I once wondered if more people would have heard this message had I been fluent in English and able to preach it at international gatherings. However, I gained confidence by reflecting on Ezekiel’s calling. God first called me—as someone born in Korea who speaks Korean best—to preach the Word to the Korean church and the Korean people. When the time comes to share the message with other language groups, God can provide someone proficient in English to open the way for translation and subtitling. In fact, people have already begun translating my sermons into English and posting them online.
My background in loving and accurately handling the Korean language has also been put to use in this mission. While studying Korean literature, I was trained to analyze the central themes, structure, foreshadowing, and symbolism of literary works. That training has helped me examine the context and structure of the Bible. In particular, one must understand the symbols and typology found in the Old Testament books of Ezekiel, Daniel, and Zechariah in order to correctly interpret the expressions in the Book of Revelation. Studying past history does not merely accumulate knowledge of the past; it enables one to discern the present and prepare for the future.
During my sermon, I cited the example of how the Korean language was preserved despite being forced to perform ancestral rites for at least 350 of the 500 years of the Joseon Dynasty, followed by 36 years of Japanese colonial rule, as well as the fact that expressions in South American indigenous languages still sound similar to Korean. This is an illustration of my interest in the roots of language and ethnicity. The core of this illustration lies in the fact that language is not merely a means of communication but a vessel that holds a nation’s history and way of thinking. God uses each person’s linguistic, cultural, and educational background as a channel for conveying the Gospel.
I have also wrestled with the choice between a career in education and a career in ministry. I received an invitation from a leader in the education sector to take on a teaching position, and I even considered applying to become a school chaplain to teach and evangelize students. I considered it an ideal setting for sharing the Gospel, as new students arrive at schools every year. However, that path did not open up, and I eventually ended up teaching the Bible in a pastoral role. Looking back, I realize God led me to the calling of teaching God’s Word in depth within the church rather than teaching secular subjects as a teacher.
Therefore, there is no need to envy the language or platform that others possess. God leads us to begin with the words, experiences, and positions He has already given us.
If the Word is preached in Korean, it can reach other peoples through translators, and a sermon delivered at a local church can spread throughout the world via video. What matters is not first establishing every possible means, but speaking accurately to the people entrusted to us in the language we can best use right now.
8. How should those who hear and proclaim the Word live in a rebellious age?
First, we must believe that God is at work even in desperate situations. In the time of Ezekiel, the nation was destroyed and the people were taken into captivity, so it seemed as though God had departed. Yet it was precisely then that the heavens opened, a vision of God appeared, and the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel. Just because visible circumstances have collapsed does not mean God’s rule has disappeared. Even in times of judgment, God raises up His servants, saves those who have ears to hear, and leaves a message for the next generation.
Second, we must hear and discern the Word for ourselves. Do not simply rely on a leader’s words and assume everything is fine; instead, read the Bible, pray, and examine what the Holy Spirit is convicting you of. Today is an age where it is easy to verify what you are curious about using YouTube, various Bible resources, and artificial intelligence. However, having a lot of information does not automatically lead to the truth. At the very least, you must compare various sources, verify above all whether they align with the biblical text, and be wary of teachings that trivialize sin and hinder repentance.
Third, do not let the Word you hear go in one ear and out the other; you must prepare for your own future. If God has spoken to us in this age about the necessity of repentance for salvation and repentance for deliverance from curses, we must not merely store this as knowledge but must actually confess our sins and turn away from them. We must not be complacent simply because we attend church or have made a confession of faith in the past; rather, we must examine whether the fruits of repentance are evident in our present lives. To have “blessed ears” does not merely mean knowing many precious words, but means obeying the Word we have heard and entering the path of life.
Fourth, those entrusted with the Word must proclaim the truth without worrying about what others think. Of course, they must not present their own thoughts and emotions as if they were God’s Word. They must study the Bible deeply, seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and repeatedly verify whether what they have received is true. If the Word has been verified in this way, they must not remain silent, even if people dislike it or the existing system exerts pressure. The Lord’s servant is not one who captivates people with pleasant-sounding words, but one who shows the path of life so that souls may escape judgment and prepare for the kingdom of heaven.
Fifth, the truth proclaimed in words must be embodied in one’s life. Ezekiel demonstrated through his own body that a prophet existed in that era. Today’s believers must also live out the Word through honesty, repentance, and faithfulness in their homes, workplaces, and churches. People look not only at the content of sermons but also at how the one who delivers the message behaves in the face of threats and suffering. When words and life are in harmony, that very existence becomes evidence that God is still at work today.
Sixth, we must not assume that just because our path is lonely, it is the wrong one. Even Jesus was abandoned by His beloved disciples and bore the cross alone. Ezekiel also preached the Word among a people who, for the most part, would not listen. Ultimately, each person must make their own decision of faith before the Lord. However, we must not take loneliness as proof of our own righteousness; instead, we must continually examine ourselves in light of the Word and, if it is the right path, walk it to the very end.
Finally, we must believe that God uses each person’s life within His providence. The hardships and limitations we face now are not all meaningless. The path we have already walked can show the way to those who encounter similar difficulties in the future. God uses even ordinary backgrounds and limited abilities, and He opens the necessary insights and pathways for those who rely on the Holy Spirit and do their very best. Never despair; instead, faithfully live out the Lord’s will in the place entrusted to you today.
9. Conclusion
We have seen that Ezekiel was a prophet sent among a rebellious people who foreshadowed the life of Jesus Christ through his words and actions. God called him “Son of Man” more than ninety times and led him to begin his ministry around the age of thirty, amid an open heaven and God’s visions and words. As the son of a frail man, Ezekiel relied on God, proclaimed what he had seen and heard, and offered his life as a sign of the Word.
The people of Israel to whom he was sent were a rebellious nation that had repeatedly betrayed God despite receiving His grace. It was already a time when judgment was being carried out, and it was clear that most would not listen; yet God desired to leave a record that a prophet existed even in that era. Even as the nation was collapsing, God continued to speak; He saved a small number who had ears to hear and preserved His testimony so that future generations might understand the meaning of history.
Jesus, too, came to His own land and His own people, yet He was not received. The sick and the marginalized came to Him seeking mercy, but those with religious and political privileges rejected Him in order to protect their positions. Nevertheless, those who received Him were given the authority to become children of God. Even in an age when the majority rejects the message, there are still those with ears to hear, and the Word that saves even one soul is never in vain.
God sent Ezekiel first to his own people, who spoke the same language, rather than to a distant nation with a foreign tongue. This reveals that Israel did not refuse because they did not know, but because they knew yet refused to listen; at the same time, it shows that God uses His servants’ language and background for His mission. We, too, must be faithful in the language, experiences, and positions already given to us, rather than envying others’ abilities or platforms. When necessary, God will open channels through writing, video, and translation to send His Word even farther.
The more rebellious the times, the more those entrusted with the Word must proclaim the truth—whether people listen or not—and those who hear the Word must not let it go in one ear and out the other, but must prepare for the future of their souls through repentance and obedience. Even when circumstances seem hopeless, God is still watching and at work. Through our words and lives, we must leave a testimony that God’s people existed even in this age. May you receive the Word of life with ears that hear, live out the truth to the very end in the place entrusted to you, and become blessed saints who bear witness to the way of Jesus Christ even in these rebellious times.
[Sermon Focus]
This sermon is an expository message emphasizing that the prophet Ezekiel, as a “prophet of action,” already foreshadowed the life of Jesus Christ during the Old Testament era. Pastor Jeong Bo-bae explains that Ezekiel’s journey—in which he was sent to a rebellious people, rejected by them, yet proved God’s living presence—is in direct parallel to the suffering-filled ministry of Jesus, who came to His own land but was not received. In particular, he argues that the title “Son of Man,” which God used when calling Ezekiel, later became part of Jesus’ self-revelation, thereby emphasizing that Ezekiel was more than just a prophet—he was a figure who revealed Christ through his very life. In conclusion, Pastor Jeong Bo-bae points out that those who proclaim the truth, like Ezekiel and Jesus, are bound to be lonely, and he urges modern believers to exercise spiritual discernment and listen attentively to the voice of the true gospel being proclaimed in this age.
