4. 영계 육계의 중심은 하나님의 사랑

여러분은 영계에 대해 상당히 궁금할 것입니다. 세계에는 수많은 종교가 있는데, 그 종교들이 가는 길은 영계와 관계맺어 영생하는 세계, 영원히 사는 세계, 즉 하나님과 같이 사는 세계를 찾아가는 것입니다. 그런 세계가 종교의 목적지입니다.

그런데 오늘날 종교가 어떻게 변했습니까? 점점 타락돼서 ‘종교는 약자들이 믿는 것이다. 우리 인간에게 필요 없는 것이다. 그건 도의적인 하나의 표상으로서 인간들이 조작해 놓은 것이다.’ 이렇게 결론 내리는 시대에 들어왔습니다. 종교의 중심이 되는 기독교만 보더라도 그렇게 되었습니다. 미국은 전 세계 기독교국가의 대표국인데, 그런 미국의 가정에서 자란 사람들이 종교를 떠나 지금까지 자기 멋대로 살고 있습니다.

세계의 중심이요, 모든 이상의 중심이 하나님인데, 그 하나님이 계시는 영계를 중심삼고 이상을 그리던 기독교를 믿다가 왜 떠나게 됩니까? 첫째 원인은 영계가 있는 것을 확실히 몰랐기 때문입니다. 지능을 가진, 비교의 능력이 있는 인간이기 때문에 좋은 곳이 있으면 나쁜 곳을 버리고 그곳에 가게 되어 있고, 보다 차원 높고 가치 있는 곳이 있으면 그곳에 가게 되어 있습니다. 그것이 인간의 본성입니다. 인간은 영계의 실존을 확실히 알아야 되는 것입니다.

그다음에 둘째 원인은 하나님을 몰랐기 때문입니다. 타락으로 인해 하나님과의 관계가 단절되어 고아로 살아왔다는 것입니다. 그다음 셋째 원인은 영계의 중심이 되고 하나님의 중심이 되는 사랑으로써 엮어지는 것을 몰랐기 때문입니다. 이 세 가지를 몰랐다는 것입니다. 설령 하나님을 알고 영계를 알았더라도 사랑을 중심삼은 세계라는 것을 몰랐다는 것입니다.

사랑이 있는 곳에서는 올라가도 좋고, 내려가도 좋고, 가운데 있어도 좋다는 것입니다. 사랑하는 남편이 자기보다 높다고 해서 싫어하고, 사랑하는 아내가 자기보다 낮다고 해서 그걸 미워하겠습니까? 하나가 되면 마음대로 낮은 데서 높은 데로 올라갈 수도 있고, 높은 데서 낮은 데로 내려올 수도 있고, 중간에 있을 수도 있고, 어디든지 갈 수 있습니다. 제재가 없습니다. 그래서 세상에서는 ‘이 세계는 하나의 세계여야 되겠다. 통일의 세계여야 되겠다. 평화의 세계여야 되겠다.’라는 말을 많이 합니다.

영계와 육계, 영적인 존재와 육적인 존재도 마찬가지입니다. 여기는 하나님의 사랑, 하나님이 중심으로 되어 있습니다. 타락한 인간은 하나님이 중심으로 안 되어 있습니다. 인간은 마음과 몸으로 되어 있지만 마음과 영계는 다릅니다. 차원이 다르다는 것입니다.

영계와 육계란 하나님의 사랑을 중심삼고 말하는 것입니다. 따라서 영계와 육계가 하나되기 위해서는 반드시 하나님이 개재해야 됩니다. 하나님의 사랑을 개재하지 않고는 영계가 없습니다. 하나님을 중심삼고 영계라는 것이 연결됩니다. ‘내 마음도 영이지 뭐야?’ 이렇게 생각할지 모르지만 혼동하고 있습니다. 마음은 영계가 아닙니다. 타락했기 때문에 마음은 영적 세계와 관계맺고 있지 않습니다. 뼈 없는 사람과 같은 것이 타락한 인간들의 마음이라고 생각하면 실감이 날 것입니다. 뼈 없는 사람과 같은 형태가 타락한 인간들의 마음이라는 것입니다.

영인체를 보게 되면 영인체도 몸적인 요소가 있고, 마음적인 요소가 있습니다. 영인체의 마음과 같은 것이 영적 세계입니다. 그것은 반드시 하나님과 관계를 맺고 있습니다. 그러므로 하나님과 관계를 맺지 않고는 영인체의 마음과 같은 것이 생겨나지 않습니다. 영과 마음이 다르다는 것입니다. 마음은 하나님과 관계없는 것입니다. 하나님이 떠난 것입니다. 하나님 자체가 관계할 수 없습니다. 하나님이 직접 주관할 수 없습니다.

여러분 마음은 이랬다저랬다 하면서 변합니다. 그렇지만 영적 세계, 영적 존재는 변하지 않습니다. 그건 영원히 하나의 목표를 세워 꾸준히 갑니다. 왜 그렇습니까? 하나님 편에 서 있기 때문입니다. 마음은 인간 내에 속해 있습니다. 왔다 갔다 하는 인간 내에 있다는 것입니다.

여러분이 원리를 배워서 알겠지만, 생심이 무엇입니까? 생심은 마음과 영이 합쳐져서 새로이 하나의 목적을 향해서 움직이는 것입니다. 하나님을 중심삼고 우리의 양심과 하나되어 이상적 나를 만들어 낼 수 있는 동기적 마음입니다. 그래서 그 생심이 없어서 영계와 참된 사랑과 관계맺을 수 있는 자체의 근원을 찾을 수 없습니다. 생심이 나에게 생겨나면 몸도 좋아하고, 전부 그것을 따라갑니다. 자동적으로 이것이 하나됩니다.

지금까지 인간에게 제일 문제 되는 것이 몸과 마음이 서로 떨어져 있다는 것입니다. 영적인 힘이 나에게 임하여 생심적 기원만 되게 되면, 마음과 몸이 자연히 하나되는 것입니다. 그러한 근본에서 혁명이 벌어지고, 근본에서 시정하는 근원을 발견하지 못하는 한 우리는 이상을 찾아갈 도리가 없습니다. 동기가 있어야 결과가 나옵니다. 종교는 생심을 심어 놓자는 것입니다. 생심을 중심삼고 수많은 종교가 있습니다. 별의별 형태가 다 있습니다.

하나님은 존엄하신 분입니다. 그래서 영계와 육계는 일체를 이루어야 합니다. 참사랑이 나타나지 않았기 때문에 영계와 육계가 통일되지 못한 것이고, 참사랑이 나타나지 않았기 때문에 마음과 몸이 갈라진 것이고, 참사랑이 서지 않았기 때문에 종교와 정치가 갈라진 것입니다. 참사랑을 중심삼고 전부 하나되는 것입니다. 개인·가정·사회·국가·세계·천주가 다 연결됩니다. 우리 손으로 그렇게 만들지 않으면 안 됩니다. 그렇지 않고는 본연의 천상천국 지상천국을 상속받을 수 없습니다. 영계와 육계의 일치를 어떻게 이룹니까? 참사랑으로 하나 만듭니다.

세계 인류 가운데 영계를 모르는 사람이 80퍼센트 됩니다. 하나님을 믿는 사람들도 영계가 있을까, 하나님이 계실까 확실히 모릅니다. 그러나 영계는 있습니다. 세상의 부자가 이제부터 행복의 동산을 만들려고 할 때, 자신의 모든 재산을 들여서라도 만들고 싶은 마음이 있는 것과 마찬가지로 천지를 창조하신 하나님은 자신이 사실 곳을 어떻게 지으셨겠습니까?

영계는 어느 부분을 찾아 응시해도, 천년을 바라보아도 싫증이 나지 않는 아름다운 세계입니다. 상상도 할 수 없습니다. 무엇인가 세계에서 제일 좋은 그 무엇이 있다고 해도 영계에 비하면 아무것도 아닙니다. 영계의 한 모퉁이도 못 됩니다. 그러므로 갖고 싶은 것이 이 지상이 아닙니다. 선생님에게 말하라고 한다면 이 지상이 선생님의 목적에 맞지 않아서 돌아가고 싶습니다.

일반 사람 대부분은 지금도 영계를 생각지 않습니다. ‘태어났으니 그저 부모님을 모시고 가정에 산다. 이렇게 났으니 이렇게 산다.’라고 생각하고 삽니다. 그렇게 사는 모든 생활의 중심이 무엇이겠습니까? 어떻게 먹고, 어떻게 사느냐 하는 것입니다. 그렇기 때문에 제일 중요한 것을 의식주로 잡습니다. 어떻게 사느냐 하는 문제, 어떻게 먹느냐 하는 문제, 어떻게 차리고 사느냐 하는 문제, 이것이 중심입니다.

거기에는 물론 인간관계에 인륜도덕이 있어 향상하는, 서로가 발전하고 서로가 좋을 수 있는 내용이 있지만 그 도덕 기준이 다르고, 민족이 다르고, 국가가 다르고, 세계 모든 문화 배경의 차이에 따라서 삶의 기준이라든가 사회제도가 전부 달라집니다. 이렇게 보면 인간이 찾아야 할 본연의 기준, 즉 창조본연의 기준과 오늘날 우리가 살고 있는 생활의 표준으로 세워 나가는 인륜도덕의 기준에는 엄청난 차이가 있습니다. 이것이 하나로 수습되어 있지 못합니다.

본연의 세계에 근거해서 우리가 태어나 살다가 가야 할 곳이 어디입니까? 이것이 확실치 않습니다. 그렇기 때문에 일반 사람들은 영계가 있는지 없는지, 신이 있는지 없는지 모르고 있습니다. 그러나 원리를 배운 사람들은 영계가 확실히 있다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 믿고 있는 것만이 아니라 알고 있습니다. 왜 그렇습니까? 많은 체험을 통해서 아는 것입니다. 오늘날 통일교회가 이만큼 세계적인 기반을 형성할 때까지 그 배후를 살펴볼 때 많은 체험 과정을 거쳐 왔습니다. 그렇기 때문에 영계가 없다고 할 수 없는 입장에 있는 사람들이 통일원리를 아는 사람들입니다.

통일원리를 아는 사람들은 어떤 길을 가야 되겠습니까? 하나님이 원하는 길을 따라가야 됩니다. 천의의 길을 따라가는 것입니다. 천의가 무엇입니까? 개인이 가야 할 천의의 길이 있고, 가정이 가야 할 천의의 길이 있습니다. 그리고 사회·국가·세계·영계가 가야 할 천의의 길이 있습니다. 영계는 틀림없이 있습니다.

하나님이 있고 영계가 있다면 어떻게 되겠습니까? 어떤 사람은 하나님이 있다 하더라도 우리하고 관계없다고 생각할지 모르지만 그건 잘못 생각한 것입니다. ‘영계가 있다 하더라도 나하고 관계없다.’라는 말은 마치 내가 가정의 한 사람으로 나라가 필요 없고, 세계가 필요 없다고 하는 것과 마찬가지입니다. 그렇기 때문에 더 큰 하나님이 있고, 더 큰 영계가 있다면 더 큰 것하고 나는 관계맺기를 원합니다. 관계되어 있는 것만이 아니라 관계되어 무엇을 해야 되겠습니까? 하나돼야 됩니다. 하나의 목적을 향해서 가야 됩니다.

사도 바울이 영계의 3층천 세계를 보고 체험한 것은 그가 꾸준히 선교 활동을 할 수 있는 원동력이 됐습니다. 그런 체험이 있어야 됩니다. 선생님도 그와 마찬가지입니다. 선생님은 죽음을 무서워하지 않습니다. 무엇이 그렇게 만들었겠습니까? 사랑입니다. 옥중에 아무리 처넣더라도 선생님은 소화할 수 있습니다. 그러니까 오늘날 이렇게 반대하는 환경을 소화하고 굴복시켜 나온 것입니다. 내 손으로 전부 굴복시켜 놓았습니다.

4. 霊界と肉界の中心は神様の愛

皆様は霊界のことが、相当気にかかるでしょう。世界には、数多くの宗教がありますが、その宗教が行く道は、霊界と関係を結んで永生する世界、永遠に生きる世界、すなわち神様と共に暮らす世界を訪ねていくのです。そのような世界が、宗教の目的地です。しかし今日、宗教はどのように変わったでしょうか。だんだんと堕落して、「宗教は、弱者が信じるものだ。私たち人間に必要ないものだ。それは道義的な一つの表象として、人間が捏造したものだ」と、このように結論を下す時代に入りました。宗教の中心になるキリスト教だけを見ても、そのようになりました。アメリカは全世界のキリスト教国家の代表国ですが、そのようなアメリカの家庭で育った人々が宗教を離れ、今に至るまで自分勝手に暮らしているのです。
 
世界の中心であり、すべての理想の中心が神様ですが、その神様がいらっしゃる霊界を中心として理想を描いたキリスト教を信じていたのに、なぜ離れるのでしょうか。第一の原因は、霊界があることをはっきりと知らなかったからです。知能をもった比較能力のある人間なので、良い所があれば悪い所を捨てて、そこに行くようになっており、より次元の高い価値のある所があれば、そこに行くようになっています。それが人間の本性です。人間は、霊界の実在をはっきりと知らなければなりません。その次に、第二の原因は、神様を知らなかったからです。堕落によって神様との関係が断絶し、孤児として生きてきました。そして、第三の原因は、霊界の中心となり、神様の中心となる愛によって結ばれることを知らなかったからです。
 
この三つが分からなかったというのです。たとえ神様を知り、霊界を知ったとしても、愛を中心とした世界であることが分からなかったのです。愛がある所では、上がっても良く、下がっても良く、真ん中にいても良いというのです。愛する夫が自分より高いといって嫌がったり、愛する妻が自分より低いといって、それを憎んだりしますか。一つになれば思いどおりに、低い所から高い所に上がることもでき、高い所から低い所へ下りてくることもでき、中間にいることもでき、どこにでも行けるのです。制裁されることはありません。それで世の中では、「この世界は、一つの世界でなければならない。統一の世界でなければならない。平和の世界でなければならない」ということをよく言うのです。
 
霊界と肉界、霊的な存在と肉的な存在も同じです。ここは神様の愛、神様が中心になっています。堕落した人間は、神様が中心になっていません。人間は心と体から成り立っていますが、心と霊界は違います。次元が違うというのです。
 
霊界と肉界とは、神様の愛を中心として語るものです。したがって、霊界と肉界が一つになるためには、必ず神様が介在しなければなりません。神様の愛が介在しなければ、正しく、霊界とは通じないのです。神様を中心として、霊界というものが連結されるのです。「自分の心も霊ではないか」と考えるかもしれませんが、それは混同しています。心は霊界ではありません。堕落したために、心は霊的世界と関係を結んでいないのです。骨のない人のようなものが、堕落した人間の心であると考えれば、実感が湧くでしょう。骨のない人のような形態が、堕落した人間の心だというのです。
 
霊人体を見れば、霊人体にも体の要素があり、心の要素があります。その霊人体の心のようなものが霊的世界です。それは、必ず神様と関係を結んでいます。ですから、神様と関係を結ばなければ、霊人体の生心は啓発されないのです。霊と心は違うというのです。神様が離れているのです。神様御自身は人の心と関係をもてず、直接主管することはできません。人間の心は、ああなったりこうなったりしながら変わります。しかし、霊的世界や霊的存在は変わりません。それは永遠に一つの目標を立てて、たゆまずに進むのです。

なぜでしょうか。神様の側に立っているからです。心は人間に属しています。行ったり来たりする人間にあるというのです。
 
皆様は原理を学んで知っているかもしれませんが、生心とは何でしょうか。生心とは、心と霊が合わさって、新しく一つの目的に向かって動くものです。神様を中心として私たちの良心と一つになり、理想的な自分をつくり出せる動機的な心です。ですから、その生心がなければ、霊界と真の愛と関係を結べる、自らの根源を探し出せないのです。生心が私に生じれば、体も喜び、すべてそれについていきます。自動的にこれが一つになるのです。今に至るまで、人間にとって一番問題となることは、体と心が互いに離れているということです。霊的な力が私に臨み、生心的な起源さえできれば、心と体が自然に一つになるのです。そのような根本から革命が起こり、根本から是正する根源を発見できない限り、私たちは理想を訪ねていく道理がありません。動機があってこそ結果が出てきます。宗教は生心を啓発しようということです。生心を中心として、数多くの宗教があります。ありとあらゆる形態が、すべてあるのです。
 
神様は、尊厳あるお方です。霊界と肉界は一体にならなければなりません。真の愛が現れなかったために、霊界と肉界が統一できなかったのであり、真の愛が現れなかったために、心と体が分かれたのであり、真の愛が立たなかったために、宗教と政治が分かれたのです。真の愛を中心として、すべて一つになるのです。個人、家庭、社会、国家、世界、天宙が、すべて連結されます。私たちの手で、そのようにしなければなりません。そのようにしなければ、本然の天上天国と地上天国を相続できないのです。霊界と肉界の一致をどのように成し遂げるのでしょうか。真の愛によって一つにするのです。
 
世界人類の中で、霊界を知らない人は数多くいます。神様を信じる人々も、「霊界はあるだろうか、神様はいらっしゃるだろうか」と言いながら、はっきり分からずにいるのです。しかし、霊界はあります。世の中のお金持ちがこれから幸福の園を造ろうというとき、自分のすべての財産をつぎ込んでも造りたい気持ちがあるのと同じように、天地を創造された神様は、御自身の住む所をどのようにお造りになったのでしょうか。霊界は、どの部分を探して凝視しても、千年眺めても飽きない美しい世界です。想像を絶しています。世界で最も良いものがあるとしても、霊界に比べれば何でもありません。霊界の一角にもなれません。ですから欲しいのは、この地上ではありません。先生に言わせれば、この地上は神様の願いにかなっていないので、帰りたいのです。
 
一般の人の大部分は、今も霊界を考えません。「生まれたので、ただ父母に侍って家庭で暮らしている。このように生まれたから、このように生きる」と思って生きています。そのように生きるすべての生活の中心は何でしょうか。どのように食べ、どのように暮らすかということです。ですから、一番重要なことを衣食住と捉えています。どのように住むかという問題、どのように食べるかという問題、どのように装って暮らすかという問題、これが中心です。もちろんそこには、人間関係において人倫と道徳があって向上する、互いが発展し互いが喜べる内容がありますが、その道徳基準が異なり、民族が異なり、国家が異なり、世界のすべての文化背景の違いによって、生活基準や社会制度がすべて異なるのです。このように見ると人間が探し出すべき本然の基準、すなわち創造本然の基準と今日、私たちが暮らしている生活の標準として立てていく人倫と道徳の基準の間には、途方もない差があります。これが一つに収拾されずにいるのです。
 
本然の世界に基づいて、私たちが生まれ、生きてから、行くべき所はどこでしょうか。これがはっきりしていません。ですから一般の人たちは、霊界があるのかないのか、神様がいるのかいないのか、分からずにいるのです。しかし、「統一原理」を学んだ人たちは、霊界が確実にあることを知っています。信じているだけではなく、知っているのです。なぜでしょうか。多くの体験を通じて知るのです。今日、統一教会が世界的な基盤を形成するに至った背後を調べてみるとき、多くの体験過程を経てきたというのです。そのため、霊界がないとは言えない立場にいる人々が、「統一原理」を知る人々です。
 
「統一原理」を知っている人々は、どのような道を行くべきでしょうか。神様が願う道に従っていかなければなりません。天意の道に従っていくのです。天意とは何でしょうか。個人が行くべき天意の道があり、家庭が行くべき天意の道があります。そして、社会、国家、世界、霊界が行くべき天意の道があります。霊界は、間違いなくあるのです。
 
神様がいて、霊界があるなら、どのようになるでしょうか。ある人は、「神様がいるとしても私たちとは関係ない」と思うかもしれませんが、それは誤った考えです。「霊界があるとしても私とは関係ない」と言うのは、まるで「私は家庭の一員であって、国は必要なく、世界も必要ない」と言うのと同じです。そのため、より大きい神様がいて、より大きい霊界があるとすれば、より大きいものと関係を結ぶことを、私は願うのです。関係しているだけでなく、関係して何をすべきなのでしょうか。一つにならなければなりません。一つの目的に向かって行かなければならないのです。
 
使徒パウロが霊界の第三の天（コリントⅡ一二・二）を見て体験したことが、彼にとって根気強く宣教活動を続けることができた原動力になりました。そのような体験がなければなりません。先生もそれと同じです。
 
先生は、死を恐れません。何がそのようにしたのでしょうか。愛です。いくら獄中に放り込まれても、先生は消化できます。ですから今日、このように反対する環境を消化して、屈服させてきたのです。私の手ですべて屈服させたのです。

4. The central point between the two worlds

I imagine you must be very curious about the spirit world. There are many religions in the world; their purpose is to guide us to the world of eternal life, where we can live together with God. That eternal spirit world is the destination of religion. However, what has become of religion today? It is on the decline. We have entered an era in which people are concluding that religion is a man-made moral idea, appealing only to the weak and unnecessary for everyone else.

Even Christianity, the central religion, has declined. America represents all the Christian nations of the world, yet many people who grew up in American Christian homes have lost their faith and are living according to their own ways. Why are even Christians abandoning their religion, which idealizes Heaven, the dwelling place of God, who is the center of the world and all ideals?

There are three reasons. First, we do not have a clear understanding of the existence of the spirit world. We have the innate capacity of comparison, and we naturally seek to abandon a bad situation in favor of a better one. If we understood the higher-dimensional realms of greater value in the spirit world, we would seek them out. This is original human nature.

Second, we do not really know God. Our connection with God was severed as a result of the Fall, and we have been living as orphans.
Third, we do not grasp the central importance of love, which binds us to both God and the spirit world. We do not clearly know these three points. Even those who know of God and the spirit world do not fully understand that it is a world centered on love.

In a place of love, you are happy to go up or down and even to stay in the middle. Does a wife dislike her husband if he has a higher position in society than she has? Does a husband dislike his wife if her social standing is lower than his? When you are one with each other, you can go anywhere, from below to above, from above to below; you can even stay in the middle. There are no restraints. This is the reason that many people in the world are saying, “This world needs to become one. It ought to be united. It must become a world of peace.”

It is the same for both the spirit world and the earthly world, and for spiritual and physical beings. God and His love are central to both worlds. But fallen people do not recognize this.

We have a mind and a body, and there are differences between these two. They exist in different dimensions. The mind differs from the spirit world. We speak of the spirit and earthly worlds in terms of God’s love. Accordingly, for these two to create oneness, God must be involved. Without God’s love, the spirit world cannot exist. It is linked to God.

People may be confused and think that the mind is the spirit. The mind is not a part of the spirit world. Due to the Fall, the mind does not have a relationship with the spirit world. It may be easier for you to understand if you think of the mind of fallen human beings as a person who has no bones in his body. The mind of a fallen person has a form like a human body that has no bones.

The spirit has a body-like element and a mind-like element. The part that is like the mind of the spirit is immersed in the spirit world. It always maintains a relationship with God. The mind-like element of the spirit does not come into being without a relationship with God. It is important to understand that spirit and mind are two different things. The fallen mind has no relationship with God. He has departed from it. God can neither relate to the fallen mind nor exercise His direct dominion over it. Your mind changes, going one way and then another, but spirit beings are not like this, nor is the spirit world. They have one eternal goal, toward goodness, and move steadily in that direction. Why is this so? It is because spiritually mature beings stand on God’s side. The mind that resides within us as fallen human beings vacillates.

What is the spirit mind? I am sure you know this from the Divine Principle. It is the union of mind and spirit, and it is moving toward a new goal. It is a motivational mind, which makes it possible for us to become our ideal selves by uniting with our conscience, centered on God. Without a spirit mind we would be unable to connect to the spirit world or to true love.
When the spirit mind sprouts up in us, our body is happy to unite with it.


Everything automatically begins to unite. The biggest problem for people until now has been the separation of our mind and body. However, when spiritual energy dwells within us and engenders the awakening of our spirit mind, our mind and body naturally unite. Unless this type of revolution occurs, unless we discover the origin that can rectify everything from the root, we have no way to find the ideal. There is no result without a motivating cause. The purpose of religion is to implant a spirit mind within us. There are many religions centered on the spirit mind. These appear in all sorts of different forms.

God is a majestic being, central to both the spirit and earthly worlds, which are meant to become as one. Because true love was never manifested, the spirit world and physical world could not become as one body. This caused the separation between the human mind and body. Also, because true love was never established, there is a separation between religion and politics.

Everything comes together as one when true love is at the center. Everything—the individual, family, society, nation, world and cosmos—is linked. We have to make it so with our own hands. Otherwise we cannot inherit God’s original kingdom in heaven and on earth. How do we bring about harmony between the spirit and earthly worlds? We have to unite them with true love.

Eighty percent of the world’s population does not know about the spirit world. Even some religious believers are not really sure whether there is a spirit world or if God really exists. However, the spirit world does exist. If there were a wealthy man who was willing to invest his entire fortune in creating a place of happiness for himself, we can imagine what a wonderful garden he would build. Then what kind of place would God, the Creator of heaven and earth, create as His dwelling place?

The spirit world is a world of beauty beyond our imagination. You could stare at just one part of it for a thousand years and never grow tired of it. The world’s most prized possessions are nothing in comparison to the spirit world. Therefore, I do not want to own things on this earth. If you were to force me to say which I would prefer, I would say this earthly world does not conform to my purpose and I would rather go to the spirit world.
Most people do not think about the spirit world. They were born, so they live with their parents and take care of their families. They think they will just go on living the life they were born to. What is at the center of such lives? It is all about eating and supporting themselves. People consider food, shelter and clothing to be the most important things in life.

How to support themselves, how to feed themselves, how to clothe themselves—these are the central issues for most people. Of course, human relationships include aspects of morality that enable people to improve, develop and find satisfaction together. The standard of that morality varies, however, among different races and nations. Moral standards and social systems all vary in accordance with the world’s diverse cultural backgrounds.

From this perspective, we see that there is a huge difference between the original vision and standard that God wants us to attain, and the standard of ethics and morality that people today set for themselves. This must be corrected. Where are we supposed to go after being born and living our lives here, based on the original standard? People are not clear about this; they do not know whether there is a spirit world and whether God exists.
However, people who have studied the Principle clearly know that the spirit world exists. They do not just believe it; they know it. Why is this? They know it through countless spiritual experiences. The global foundation of the Unification Church was built through a process that included many spiritual experiences. People who know the Principle are in a position where they cannot say that the spirit world does not exist.

Once we know the Principle, what path do we follow? We must follow the path that God desires for us, the path of His Will. But what is God’s Will? There is a path for an individual, and a path for a family. There are also paths for the society, nation, world and spirit world. I am the expert on this. The spirit world definitely exists.

Why is it important that we know of the existence of God and of the spirit world? Some people may think that, even if God exists, they have nothing to do with Him, but they are wrong. To say, “Even if there is a spirit world, it has nothing to do with me,” would be like a person claiming he is a member of a family, but has no need of his country or of the world.

If there were a greater God and a bigger spirit world, we would surely want to have a relationship with those greater entities. But just having a relationship is not enough. What would we do once we had a relationship? We would have to unite and move together toward the same goal.

The Apostle Paul’s experience of seeing the third heaven of the spirit world became the driving force empowering him in his missionary activities for fourteen years. Do you understand this? You need to have such experiences. The same is true for me.

I do not fear death. What made me this way? Love did. No matter how many times I am put in jail, I can digest all that, just as I have digested and overcome all the opposition that has surrounded me. I am overcoming all this with my own hands.
