Hi everyone, this is Jennifer Yoo with ENGLISH WITH YOO! 오늘의 영어 표현은Run into (someone or something)입니다.
누구나 한번쯤 예상치 못한 장소에서 오래 된 친구를 만난 경험이 있을 것 같아요. 예상하지 못했던 만큼 그 반가움도 더 클 것이라는 생각이 드는데요. Melissa 역시 우연히 친구를 만난 모양이네요. 자, 그럼Melissa와 Kevin이 나눈 대화를 들어보실까요. Let’s listen to today’s conversation. 잘 들어보세요.

Melissa: Guess what? I ran into Suzy and her husband at the basketball game yesterday.
Kevin: Nice! I haven’t seen them in a while. How are they?
Melissa: They’re good. They wanted me to tell you that they miss you and that we should all have a get-together.
Kevin: Yes, most definitely! It’s always nice when you run into someone you haven’t seen in a while. I’ll give her a call so we can plan on meeting.
Melissa: Awesome!
Melissa는 Kevin에게 “Guess what? 있잖아 I ran into Suzy and her husband at the basketball game yesterday 나 어제 농구 게임에서 Suzy랑 Suzy 남편을 우연히 만났어” 라고 하네요. 그러자 Kevin은 “Nice! 잘 됐네! I haven’t seen them in a while 나 한동안 그 둘을 못 만났거든 How are they? 어떻게 지낸대?”하며 안부를 묻네요. Melissa 가 “They’re good 좋아 보였어They wanted me to tell you that they miss you 너 되게 보고싶다고 하더라 and 그리고 that we should all have a get-together 우리 다같이 모임을 갖자고 했어”라고 하네요. 오랜만에 친한 친구의 소식을 들은 Kevin은 “Yes, most definitely! 그래! It’s always nice when you run into someone you haven’t seen in a while 오랜만에 누굴 우연히 만나면 그렇게 반가울 수가 없더라고 I’ll give her a call so we can plan on meeting 내가 Suzy에게 연락해서 만날 수 있도록 해볼게”라고 하자 Melissa가 “Awesome! 좋아!”라고 하네요. 그럼 여기서 오늘의 대화를 다시 들어보겠습니다.

오늘의 영어표현은‘run into (someone or something)’ 입니다. When you run into someone, it means that you meet someone by chance. ‘Run into (someone or something) 은 ‘누군가를 우연히 만나다’라는 뜻입니다. I’ll give an example. 예문을 하나 들어볼게요. “I went to the movies yesterday and I ran into my professor from school! 어제 영화보러 갔다가 우리 학교 교수님을 만났지 뭐야!”라는 뜻이죠.
