O: Did you get the memo about the dress code? They've decided to make it more strict.
J: Well, if we want to be taken seriously by our clients, we should dress better.
O: Yeah, I guess that makes sense. But after the pandemic, everyone got used to dressing casually.
J: Honestly, I'm excited to get my suits out of the closet again. You know the saying,"The clothes make the man.
O: And the woman!/ J: Right and that's why I think it was a mistake to do away with the dress code anyway.
O. The new dress code includes casual Fridays, but the way it's written doesn't make it sound so casual.
J: I think they have to draw the line somewhere. I mean, T-shirts and jeans are never appropriate at company like ours.
O: I disagree. If you aren't meeting with customers in person, then it shouldn't matter.
J: It becomes a slippery slope once you allow T-shirts./ O: True, because people could feel that tank tops are also Okey.
J: That's why it needs to be clearly defined. I think these rules are fair.
O: What do you think about the rule for department and company meetings?
J: You mean the one that says we should wear business formal for company meetings and business casual for department meetings?
O: Yeah. Don't you think they're taking it too far?/ J: No, I think it aligns with the company's as a serious insurance business.
O: So, you think since this is a top insurance firm that we should dress the part?
J: Exactly! We aren't a bar or a restaurant. We deal with other top business and wealthy individuals.
O: Tomorrow is our first big meeting since the new dress code was enforced.
J: Do you think many people will dress down for it?/ O: I hope not! They sent out a reminder about the dress code yesterday.
J: Yeah, but some people don't have a clue what the terms business formal and business casual mean.
O: What are you wearing tomorrow? I bought a new pants suit.
J: I'm going to break out my double-breastfed prinstripe suit and a pink tie.
O: I was really surprised at how well most people followed the dress code
J: Yeah, mee too. But there were a few exceptions, like Mark from marketing.
O: Creative types like him want to express themselves in how they dress.
J: He could have done it with a wacky tie or bright socks. His attitude that anything goes probably wasn't received well by the top brass.
O: Yeah, he'll definitely be written up. I saw his department manager talking to him.
J: Personally, I think these rules are a breath of fresh air.
