Dramatic 19th century Japan setting Based on the backdrop of the Boshin War period, the new campaign starts in 1864, a time of growing resentment against Western colonial power and influence. As Japan began to modernise and industrialise, the inevitable social and economic changes led to increasingly militant nationalism and antipathy towards the Shogunate.

6 new playable clans Play as a clan supporting the Imperial throne, or the last Shogunate:

• Shogunate clans: Aizu, Nagaoka, Jozai
• Imperial clans: Choshu, Satsuma, Tosa

New foreign powers The American, British and French nations played an important part in the story of the Boshin war and your relations with these foreign powers will be integral to unit recruitment and to advancing your technology trees.

New 19th century Japan campaign map

• The new island of Ezo extends the SHOGUN 2 campaign map northwards.
• Fully refreshed towns and other campaign map features reflect the different time period, with railways making their first appearance in a Total War title.

Railway lines on the campaign map

• Develop your own railway network to move armies and agents between your regions.
• Railways can be sabotaged and transport can be blocked by enemy armies who take control of parts of the line or railway stations.

39 new land units

• Including modern ranged units - such as the Gatling gun and Armstrong gun - controllable in a new first-person mode.
• New units can also be recruited from foreign powers, including the British Royal Marines, US Marine Corps and French Marines.

10 new naval unit types with a total of 21 ships

• New steam-powered warships, heavily armed with modern artillery.
• Foreign ironclad ships can also be purchased, including the Warrior-class ironclad.

New port siege battle type

• This new battle type triggers when attempting a naval assault on an occupied enemy port.
• The attacking fleet must sail into the harbour and capture the port, running the gauntlet of coastal gun defences.

New land and sea unit interactions

• During a land battle, armies can call in offshore artillery support barrages.
• Conversely, costal gun emplacements can target enemy ships during port siege battles, when ending their turn within the range of upgraded coastal defences.
• Campaign map bombardments: offshore naval units can bombard armies and cities in adjacent coastal areas on the campaign map itself.

3 new agent types

• The Foreign Veteran, the Ishin Shishi and the Shinshengumi.
• Each new agent has its own skill tree. Ninja and Geisha agents have had their skill trees updated.

Improved siege battle mechanics

• New upgradable tower defences can be built with a specific defence specialty: archery, matchlock or Gatling gun.

4 new historical battles

• Fight in 4 brand-new dramatic portrayals of the major historical battles of the Boshin War.

Total War: Shogun 2 – Fall of the Samurai announced

The Creative Assembly have just announced that they’ll be releasing a huge standalone expansion for Total War: Shogun 2 called Fall of the Samurai. It will be set in the period leading up to the Boshin War, in which European and American forces introduce a new wave of military technology that threatens to wipe out the Samurai.

Fall of the Samurai will add six new factions. Some, like the Nagaoka, sill support the might of the Shogun. Others, like the Satsuma clan, want to embrace Imperial power. Externally, British, French and American forces are vying for influence in the Land of the Rising Sun. Over the course of the campaign, you’ll get to decide Japan’s fate.

New tech trees will reflect the evolving technology of a country adapting to the influx of devastating new weaponry from the west. That technology includes new naval units like “steamers, torpedo boats and mighty Ironclad battleships.” For the first time in Total War, these will be able to launch artillery attack on land units from the safety of the sea. Coastal defences will also be able to launch ranged attacks on incoming fleets, and the fight for influence will rage across a new campaign map that will incorporate the Northern Ezo territories and railways. Railways can be used to move troops incredibly fast, and can be sabotaged by the enemy.

On the battlefield, 39 new units will be available, including Gatling guns, US Marines and British Royal Marines. There will be three new agent types, Foreign Veteran, the Ishin Shishi and the Shinshengumi. These campaign map agents will have all new progression trees, and the Geisha and Ninja skills will be updated.

The six new factions are divided into pro-Shogunate and pro-Imperial groups. The Aizu, Nagaoka, and Jozai clans fight for traditional Japan, while the Choshu, Satsuma and Tosa factions fight for the Empire.

A number of improvements will be made to siege battles. New tower defences can be upgraded and specialised to become archery, matchlock or gatling gun towers. A new “port siege” battle will let armadas brave coastal defences to take control of coastal towns by occupying their harbours.

Shogun 2′s multiplayer features will also be expanded. You’ll be able to create a separate Fall of the Samurai avatar with access to 40 new retainers, 30 new armour pieces and a new tech tree. There will be a new 19th century conquest map and you’ll be able to create multiple avatars to try out different tech tree builds.

Fall of the Samurai is shaping up to be a huge update. It’s standalone, too, so you won’t need Shogun 2 to play it. It’s due out in March.

Total War: Shogun 2, the latest in Creative Assembly's long-running strategy franchise, launched earlier this year and moved 600,000 copies after just a few weeks on shelves. The base game has already received one downloadable campaign, and Sega has an even bigger content pack on the way

Sega today announced that a new stand-alone expansion for Total War: Shogun 2 is coming in March called Fall of the Samurai. Set during the last Shogunate in 19th century Japan, the expansion pack takes place 400 years after Shogun 2 and introduces Japan's samurai to the modern weaponry of America, Britain, and France.

Fall of the Samurai introduces six new playable clans in the midst of a civil war between the Imperial throne and the last Shogunate. The expansion is also set to introduce new features, including siege battle mechanics, as well as new land and sea unit interactions and a revamped multiplayer dubbed "Multiplayer 2.0."

Pricing details regarding Fall of the Samurai were not announced. Total War: Shogun 2's previous non-stand-alone campaign expansion, Rise of the Samurai, launched for $10.

음, 어설픈 영어 실력으로 대충 해석해 보니 사무라이의 몰락에서는 총 9개 세력이 등장하는 듯 하군요. 먼저 쇼군쪽 세력으로는 아이즈Aizu, 나가오카Nagaoka, 조자이Jozai 등이고, 제국 세력으로는 초슈Choshu, 사쓰마Satsuma, 토사Tosa 등이며 외국 세력으로는 미국American, 영국British 그리고 프랑스French 이렇게 9개군요. 또, 새로운 섬인 에조 즉 훗카이도까지 확장하는 것도 가능하다고 하군요.

혹시, CA에서 하고 있는 작업이 나중에 나올 제국주의 시대 서구 열강의 식민지 정복을 다룬 새로운 토탈워를 위한 전초 작업인지도 모르겠습니다. 해안 포대와 함대의 해안가 포격, 그리고 철도라면 충분히 가능하죠.
