act /as if you did. 마치 사랑하는 것처럼 행동하라

The rule for all of us is perfectly simple. 

우리 모두를 위한 규칙은 완전히 간단하다

Do not waste time /bothering whether you ‘love’ your neighbour; 

당신이 당신의 이웃을 사랑하는지 아닌지 고심하면서 시간을 허비하지 마라

act /as if you did.

마치 사랑하는 것처럼 행동하라

As soon as we do this we find one of the great secrets. 

우리가 이 일을 하자마자 우리는 엄청난 비밀들 중의 하나를 발견할 것이다 

When you are behaving /as if you loved someone,

당신이 누군가를 사랑하는 것처럼 행동할 때

you will presently come /to love him.

당신은 지금 그를 사랑하게 될 것이다

If you injure someone () you dislike, you will find [yourself] [disliking him more]. 

만약 당신이 싫어하는 사람을 다치게 한다면 당신은 그를 더 싫어하는 자신을 발견할 것이다

* neighbour (영), neighbor (미)

* 가정법 /as if you did.에서 현재 얘긴데 과거형 did가 쓰여 as if가 가정법으로 쓰인 걸 알려줌

*  If someone comes to do something, they do it at the end of a long process or period of time. 

* If you injure someone (whom/who) you dislike, (격식체는 whom, 일상어는 who를 씀)

* 5 형식 find [yourself] [disliking him more]. 목적이 목보 상태로 발견되다 (목보는 목적 수식인 형역 현분사구)

If you do him a good turn, you will find [yourself] [disliking him less].

만약 당신이 그에게 친절한 일을 한다면 당신은 그를 덜 싫어하는 당신  자신을 발견할 것이다

There is, indeed, one exception. 

사실 한 예외가 존재한다

* 4 형식 DO (SOMEONE) A GOOD TURN : 1. to do something kind that helps someone else: 

* 존재설명의 관용어구 There is~

If you do him a good turn, 

만약 당신이 그에게 친절한 일을 한다면

not to please God and obey the law of charity, 

하나님을 기쁘시게하고 자애법을 순종해서가 아니라 

but to show him what a fine forgiving chap you are, 

당신이 용서를 하는 얼마나 좋은 사람인지를 그에게 보여주는 것이고

and to put him in your debt, and then sit down to wait for his ‘gratitude’, 

그를 당신의 빚쟁이로 만들고 나서 그의 감사를 기다리며 앉아 있는다면 

you will probably be disappointed. 

당신은 아마도 실망하게될 것이다

(People are not fools: they have a very quick eye for anything like showing off, or patronage.) 

(사람들은 바보가 아니다. 그들은 과시하거나 우월감 같은 어떤 것을 재빨리 감지하는 눈을 가졌다)

But whenever we do good to another self, 

그러나 우리가 다른 사람 자신에게 선을 베풀 때마다

just because it is a self,

단지 그사람 자신도 나 자신 같은 자신이기 때문에 (그도 나와 같은 사람이기에)

 made (like us) by God, and desiring its own happiness /as we desire ours, 

하나님께서 (우리와 같은 사람으로) 만드셨고 우리가 우리의 행복을 원하듯 그들 자신의 행복을 원하는

we shall have learned [to love it /a little more or, at least, to dislike it less].

우리는 그들 자신을 조금 더 사랑하기나 적어도 덜 싫어하기를 배우게 될 것이다

* 형용사로 쓰인 what : how remarkable or striking for good or bad qualities ; What a charming girl!

* it = self

* 형역 현분사 forgiving 현분사의 능동 주체인 chap 수식, 

* 삽입구인 형역 과분사구 made (like us) by God, 과분사의 수동 주체인 a self 수식 

* 삽입구인 형역 현분사구 desiring its own happiness as we desire ours,  현분사의 능동 주체인 a self 수식,
