What’s Your Favorite Soap Opera?
By: DivineCaroline (View Profile)
Love triangles. Murder mysteries. Faked pregnancies. Demonic possession. Soap operas milk the drama genre for all it’s worth, and fans tune in day after day, year after year, to see what’ll happen next. Which soap operas did you grow up watching? Which do you remember your mom or grandma watching, and which do you still watch today? Who are the characters you can’t stand to see hurt—or the ones you just plain can’t stand?

I totally watched Days of Our Lives in middle school, and then I switched to General Hospital after that. I always cheered for Bo and Hope and I wanted to throw my shoe at the TV whenever Billie came on screen. I was also a big Lucky-Liz fan, but then Lucky died and then somehow came back to life and I started to lose interest. Now I have no idea what's going on with any of them, but that's probably for the best.

I grew up watching "The Edge of Night", "The Secret Storm" "Dallas", Knots Landing" and "Dynasty". What I liked about then was i could miss a week of shows, and still pick up where I left off. The Diva attitudes of the female leads were funny. At times i wanted to smack them myself. I found myself talking to the TV - Laugh. Now i do not watch any soap operas. I find them broing and can predicte what will happen. I do not get the suspense any longer.

When I was growing up, my mother had a daily TV routine. There was The Young and the Restless in the morning before the gameshows, then Ryan's Hope (my favorite of all time), All My Children, One Life to Live, and lastly General Hospital (back when Jack Wagner played Frisco). Does anyone think it is creepy that I was watching these shows 20-30 years ago, but the same actors are still on and look pretty much the same? I remember when One Life to Live went off the deep end plot-wise and the character Vicki somehow went to Hell on a spaceship...and the character Mitch was the Devil, or something. Compared to Passions, though, that was nothing! If I had time I would definitely try to watch these old shows for nostalgia, those were the good times!

I grew up watching Days of Our Lives. My mom watched it when I was young. I really loved the Marlena/Roman/John storyline, well the second one anyway. The one where Sami found out about John and Marlena. You end up getting really invested in the characters. I haven't really sat down and watched it since before my daughter was born (2007) but I catch bits and pieces. It's funny how some storylines are still in action over time (like Carol said, you can skip six months, start watching again and feel as though you haven't missed a thing) but the children grow up so quickly! That's the thing about soaps, as long as the writer's are creative enough, they have built-in longevity. As long as characters keep procreating, they have a show.

I used to watch All My Children years ago. Then I went to Texas which was a good soap.Then they took it off and put on General Hospital. I vowed to never watch GH because I liked Texas so much and I never did. Then I went on to Passions a little bit wonky but an alright show.For the last few years now its been Days Of Our Lives. Only thing about it you can miss about 6 months of it and start watching it again and it seems it's where you left off.Why is that? It can get pretty boring.The same ole same ole.

The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful are my favorites. I really miss As the World Turns and Guiding Light.
* Soap Opera, Series의 차이점
Drama
Soap Opera
TV Series
