Think /of your man /as a series of concentric circles,

his will /being the innermost, his intellect /coming next, and finally his fantasy. 

* 'Concentric'은 동일한 중심을 공유하는이라는 뜻으로, 같은 중심을 가진 원 안의 원들로 구성된 상태를 의미함

* 형역인 동격 명사구 ; his will /being the innermost, his intellect /coming next, finally his fantasy = concentric circles

 => in which/where his will is the innermost, his intellect comes next, and finally comes his fantasy.

You can hardly hope, at once, [to exclude from all the circles everything //that smells of the Enemy]:

Think /of your man /as a series of concentric circles, 사람을 한 중심을 가진 동심원의 연속물/여러 겹으로 생각하라,

his will /being the innermost, his intellect /coming next, and finally his fantasy. 

그의 의지는 가장 깊은 마음속에 있고, 그의 지성이 다음 겹에 오고 마침내 그의 환상이 있는 마지막 겹인 동심원으로

You can hardly hope, at once, [to exclude from all the circles everything //that smells of the Enemy]:

너는 그 원수(하나님)의 냄새가 나는 모든 것을 원주/주변으로부터 한 번에 제외시키기를 거의 희망할 수 없다

but you must keep on [shoving all the virtues outward /till they are finally located in the circle of fantasy,

그러나 그것들이 마침내 환상의 영역에 위치할 때까지 모든 선/덕행들을 외부로 밀어내기를 계속해야 하고

정말로 그것들은 그자가 지옥에 도착했을 때 그자가 재미를 (우리에게) 더 발산하게 만들 것이다

* 사람이 덕행/선을 잘해서 천국 갈 줄 알았는데 지옥 간다는 건 마귀들을 아주 재미있게 만들 것이다

* 도덕/윤리가 현실과는 단절된 환상상상으로 점철되고 지성이성이 인정하는 것만 바른 걸로 선택되고

어느 정도 좋아하고 존경될 수도 있지만 그렇게 한다 해서 지옥에 가지 않는다고 믿으면 오해인 것은

현실과 단절된 상상적인 도덕/윤리의 정의와 가치관이 하나님의 원래 목적과는 한참 달라진 때문이다

it = that로 하면 that절 내용이 들어온 것이라는 의미가 되어 억지 해석은 가능하나 자연스레 통하지 않고

it를 대명사로 한다면 앞서 나온 명사가 적당한 게 없고 뒤에 온 that절이 형절이어야 하나 habits //that~은

불통을 유발하니 남은 건 강조구문이라 that 절을 본문으로 하고 it is only~를 강조문으로 하면 잘 통한다
