Matt Harpring wasn't on the Sixers team that won the East and battled the Lakers in the NBA Finals last season, but he's quickly learning what its like to defend the Eastern Conference crown.

The 6-7 swingman has quickly fit in with the squad after being acquired from Cleveland in the deal that sent Tyrone Hill to the Cavs this past summer. Having started all 10 games at small forward, Harpring is part of the new Sixer front court (along with Derrick Coleman) after the trades of incumbents Hill and George Lynch.

Harpring has proven to be a key piece of the Sixers game with his accurate shooting touch and hustle, averaging 13.6 ppg and 1.6 steals per game so far.

A first-round draft pick of the Orlando Magic in 1998, Harpring finished as Georgia Tech's second all-time leading scorer and rebounder, becoming an All-America in his senior season.

I love it in Philly and playing with Iverson and Dikembe and Coleman and McKie is great. They all know how to play the game and we could play a very good team with the five we got out there.

I like going out to dinner to different kinds of restaurants. I love going to movies. When we have time to chill out, which isn't many nights, I like to sit around and watch TV and just chill out.

It's fun. He does a lot of things on the court that create opportunites for everyone else. I'd seen him play, but never played with him, but playing with him, i've realized how good of a talent he really is.

No, I actually wore 10 in high school, which was my favorite number growing up. At Georgia Tech, 10 was taken so I had to take 15. When I came to the Sixers, both of those were taken so I took 21. It was kind of my third favorite number.

사실 고등학교 땐 10번을 달았고, 가장 좋아하는 번호다. 조지아공대 때 10번을 딴분이 달고 있어서 15번을 달았고. 식서스에 와선 10번과 15번 모두 딴분이 달고 있어서 21번을 달게 됐다. 이건 세번째로 좋아하는 번호다

It's night and day. In Cleveland, we were kind of hoping to get to the Playoffs. In Philadelphia, we're hoping to get back to the Finals. We know we're a good team, we're confident, we're expected to win every night we go out there and if we don't win, it's a disappointment. The whole attitude in the Philly lockerroom is all about winning.

Cavs에선 Playoff를 꿈꿨고, 식서스에선 Finals에 다시 진출하는 것을 목표로 한다. 즉 식서스는 승리를 더 많이 한다.

I think how many games and the burdens of the NBA, the NBA is glamourous at times, but there are a lot of things people don't see. The traveling aspect of it is really hard. You go on road trips for a week and a half, there's just not as much time as I thought there would be.

NBA에선 게임을 많이 하고 부담이 된다. 그리고 여행(원정경기) 많이 한다.

I was very, very happy. It's not every day you can wake up and be on a championship caliber team. When I was with Cleveland, we were just hoping to make it to the playoffs. Now I'm on a team that wants to, thinks, and expects they can get back to the Finals. It's great to be in a winning environment.

So far, the fans have been really, really great. It seems like they like people who come out and play hard and to just play as hard as they can every night. And when they do that, the fans appreciate it.

I like to go out and do other things. In the offesason, I like to play golf, tennis, any outdoor activity. I love the outdoors, jet skiing, anything in the water. During the season, I like going to the movies and hanging out.

오프시즌때 골프, 테니스, 다른 outdoer activity를 한다. 제트스키 등 다른 물에 하는 것도 좋아하고... 시즌중엔 영화등을 즐긴다

Just knowing that he's going to be taking a lot of shots, which is not a bad thing at all. For our team to be good, we need him to take that many shots. I have to be more selective in my shooting, just because i'm open, doesn't mean that's the best shot I can get. That change has been working pretty good so far.

I played for Chuck Daly, Doc Rivers, Randy Wittman and now Coach Brown. Above all things, Coach Brown demands more than any other coach out of you. He expects you to play hard every night and gets the best out of you. He's a perfectionist, he makes you do things the right way. And that's why he's been so good and the team has been good with their execution.

척데일리, 닥 리버스, 랜디 위트먼, 그리고 브라운코치 밑에서 뛰었다. 무었보다도 래리브라운은 다른 감독보다 더 많은 것을 요구한다. 그는 매일밤 열심히 해서 최상의 것을 얻어내길 바란다. 래리브라운은 완벽주의자이다.

Honestly, basketball just came easier for me, mentally and physically. I was good at football ,which is why I played it, but I loved playing basketball. So when it came down to playing in college, I chose basketball because it's the one I loved.

I think it's good for the NBA. It brings a lot of fans back to the arena. It gives players who hadn't played against him before to play against him. He's the best ever to play the game so all eyes are on him.

It was close to home and academically, it was one of the top schools that I was considering. Those two things were my top priorities. The third thing was Bobby Cremins. Him and I gelled completely and we just got along well.

Good question. The toughest guy I played against was Tim Duncan. Even though I didn't guard him, I thought he was the best complete player I had seen live and played against. He was a leader on their team and did everything that made their team win.

The biggest thing is we have to stay healthy. If we stay healthy, there's no question we can get back to where they were last year competing for the championship.

I like playing against the best guys on the other teams, I enjoy that. The most dominant player out there right now is Shaquille O'Neal. He's such a tough matchup, he can do anything he wants down there, he's tough to stop.
