My level of concentration today is at the lowest in recent time. I wonder if I did the right thing when I signed up for this community. ;-)<br><br>Anyway, I just bumped into one of my pet peeve words that sometimes frustrate me when doing EN-KO work. <br><br>It's '<span style="color: rgb(227, 22, 0); background-color: rgb(239, 244, 216); font-weight: bold;">better</span>.' More often than not, I have to brainstorm awhile to come up with a corresponding word that looks good and delivers the same meaning. Real pain in the neck. Argh.<br><br>There are lotta those words for me, but to name a few more of the naughty brethren:<br><br>2. <span style="color: rgb(227, 22, 0); font-weight: bold;">good</span><br>3. <span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(227, 22, 0);">bad</span><br>4. <span style="color: rgb(227, 22, 0); font-weight: bold;">poor</span><br>5. <span style="color: rgb(227, 22, 0); font-weight: bold;">smart</span><br><br>How about you guys? Man... I'm just amazed at your 'see-through' perception to guess someone's mother tongue just by looking at one sentence. I don't have time and energy to argue with you about any 'suspicions' you have for me. I just came here to share some thoughts with people and the medium of choice happened to be English, which I feel comfortable using. God, can you just take it as it is 'cause there's no hidden motive behind this English thread. If you got a problem with this, just skip it and don't bother.
I appreciate your comment. I'll suffice it to say that I hardly recall asking someone for an advice in terms of translation. I came here hoping to bond with a few good men/women who share some of the same interests and experiences. It's only Day 2 for me but the prospects are not that great. It may be because this community is old (not its members), having had its ups and downs, and eventually winding up with a membership, some of whom act hostile to newness and the unknown, harboring doubts toward them.
On my part, I have a tendency for obsessive behavior which is already affecting my work. I might have to cancel my membership and settle for a guest status. Have a good evening. Nice talking to you, sir.
원글 작성자님은 한글이 약한 것 같고 영어는 원어민 수준인데요. 위에 언급한 4개 단어는 물론 상황에 따라 달리 쓰이지만 한글에 약하지 않은 사람은 거의 자동적으로 답이 나옵니다. 제가 번역할 때는 commit, engage, involve, 이와 같은 단어들이 한글로 옮기는데 생각을 많이 하게 합니다.
