소식 YouShine entertained by our GRACIOUS classmate, 유재식...

As I mentioned at another section of our website, I spent a week at Whistler, Canada, and on my way back, while staying in Vancouver, I called up 유재식 (You ZaeSik) to see if he is willing to pose for me for our e-mail/photo list, thinking that he lives in Vancouver, BC, and hoping that he would not mind my last minute call.

 

Gracious 재식 told me that he used to live in Vancouver some years back, but no more.  Now he lives in Harrison Hot Springs, BC, a hot spring resort which is about 2 hours drive away from Vancouver, running a Japanese restaurant that is frequented by tourists especially by those from Seattle, USA area.  And yet, he told me that he was willing to make a trip to Vancouver to see me,  for he could take care of another business while he was in Vancouver.

 

To my delight, he came with his wife and we had a pleasant DimSum lunch together.

 

Here are a couple photos from our meeting.  I don't recall ever even having any conversation with him while I was in high school, and yet just because we spent high school days together, 유재식 drove all that distance away from his restaurant... I thought that shows how much he values our time together at KyoungBock high school....  Mrs. 유 told me and my wife that 재식 seldom misses the opportunity to entertain our classmates, but usually make time when our classmates come to Vancouver area. 

 

What a classmate! 

 

We parted promising to get together again when they come to my area to see their son and grandkids...

경복고34회 동문, 3학년 2반 유재식 부부와 3학년 4반 임상환 부부의 뱅쿠버에서의 행복한 만남이 참으로 좋아 보인다. 서울의 신학순 덕분에 캐나다 유재식과 이미 Skype 전화 및 일반전화로 통화한 바 있었지만, 이렇게 모처럼, 노숙한 은발의 미소띈 건강한 모습을 본 것은 처음이니 얼마나 좋은지 모르겠다. 34회 동문들 모두가 두 분 부부의 만남이 마치 자기가 직접 만난 것처럼 그렇게 반가울 것이라고 여겨진다.

[波 來]

몇년전 뱅쿠버에 라이딩차 가려다 귀로의 동경-서울간 티켓을 못 사 불발되었을때 유사장과 메일과 통화를 나눈적이 있었지만 그 때 모텔을 인수해 고전하고 있다는 소식을 들었는데 위 사진에서 신수가 좋아진것을 보니 반갑네요. 그 뒤 다시 한번 갈까하는 생각을 하면서도 그 지긋지긋한 비행시간이 지겨워 나서지 못하고 있지요..10시간 이상 잔차를 타라하면 타도 좁은 좌석에 앉아가려면 미쳐서 발작이 날것 같아서리 못 나서고 있지요..ㅎㅎ

유재식 부부 opened the Yukiya Sushi, a Japanese restaurant from almost an empty place, which in itself is quite an accomplishment. Please click the links that I gave in my post to see the beautiful resort (or retirement?) city where our classmate opened the cute restaurant. Next time I go to Canada, I intend to visit the beautiful city.... This time I did not have time after visiting most of my in-laws.. Thanks for adding your comments, 염태호 and 波 來. I'd like to take this occasion to thank 유재식 부부 for accomodating my last minute call...

김홍배 동문의 편지 : Hello, friend! (중략) I traveled here and there during the last two months and I particularly enjoyed my trip to Vancouver & Alaska. My only regret is that I was not able to call Yu Jae Shik to say hello in Vancouver(하략). 아아, 그랬었구나. 김홍배도 알라스카와 뱅쿠버 여행 중 유재식을 만나고싶었다니까, 만났었다면 참으로 반갑고 기뻤을텐데..., 유샤인의 글을 읽어보니까, 요즘에 유재식의 거주지는 뱅쿠버에서 2시간 걸리는 Harrison Hot Springs라는군.
