Duke's Williams officially announces he will enter draft

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Duke point guard Jason Williams officially announced Tuesday that he will forgo the remainder of his collegiate eligibility and enter the NBA draft in June.

Williams, who graduates in May with a degree in sociology after just three years, also said he has hired Bill Duffy of BDA Sports Management as his agent.

Williams led the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring at 21.3 points a game and was a repeat All-American, receiving most of the national player of the year awards.

But he couldn't lead the Blue Devils to a repeat national championship as Duke lost to Indiana 74-73 in the regional semifinals when Williams missed a free throw that would have tied the game.

``I've fully enjoyed the college experience for the past three years at Duke University,'' Williams said in a release Tuesday. ``The experience has been everything I dreamed it would be.''

The draft will be held on June 26 in New York City.

``Not only is Jason the most anticipated NBA rookie in years, he is a tremendous young man,'' Duffy said. ``Jason is a gifted athlete, a role model for young people and a fine human being.''

BDA Sports Management, based in Walnut Creek, Calif., represents more than 50 professional basketball players both in the NBA and overseas.
