Experience
The following essential merit criteria is required for this position. Applicants must indicate in their application how they meet the merit criteria.
Significant experience in planning and conducting field research on freshwater ecology. Significant experience in preparing, writing, reviewing and analyzing scientific documents. Significant experience with univariate and multivariate analysis of ecological data. Experience with dynamic modelling of ecological processes (e.g. nutrient utilization by aquatic foodwebs or mass-balance modelling of aquatic ecosystems).

EXPERIENCE: Significant experience with the use of univariate statistics for the analysis of freshwater benthic invertebrate data sets. Significant experience with the use of multivariate statistics for the analysis of freshwater benthic invertebrate data sets. Experience working with Microsoft Access database software. Experience working with Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Experience collecting water or sediment samples from lakes. Experience with operation of a small boat with outboard motor. Experience towing a boat on a trailer. Experience with STELLA software. Experience with foodweb modelling based on functional groups. Experience with sensitivity and uncertainty tests for modelling. Experience using Monte Carlo techniques. Experience with dynamic mass-balance modelling for lakes, rivers or coastal areas including model calibration and validation.
ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS: Membership in one of the designated Employment Equity Groups.

Challenge
The incumbent will be responsible for providing statistical analysis and ecological modelling support to a freshwater aquaculture research group. Research in the group is focussed on assessing impacts of aquaculture activities and the development of tools for environmental management, not the development of aquaculture species or techniques. This work supports Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) objectives for ensuring healthy and productive ecosystems and sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible to provide occasional assistance in the field collection of samples at commercial aquaculture sites and will be responsible to acquire and provide scientific knowledge, data, information, advice and recommendations to scientific personnel within the Department.

**This period of specified term employment is under a "Sunset Program". Periods of employment in sunset programs do not count as part of the 3 year cumulative working period required for an employee to have an entitlement to indeterminate appointment, according to the Treasury Board Long-Term Specified Period Employment Policy.”
