Egyptian summer
Young Seon Kim
Three thousand year old king
Who dreamed of eternity and wanted to be a god
Lying in a glass box greeting the living
A pyramid standing tall in the desert flame
Scorching heat of the valley of the kings
became a playground of people more obsessed with the dead than the living
A Egyptian coachman who asked for a few more dollars
turns away disappointed after tour guide’s threatening word “Police Bar”
I, sitting in the coach with vanity using their poverty
hang my head in shame
Despite of the luxury of having all the seasons they don't have
this traveller criticizes the weather for being too hot and uncomfortable.
The boat man who carries me across the Nile
chanting “Insha'Allah” seems embraces all the seasons of life without a fight
A wave in the Nile hits the back of my hand as if reprimanding
Sacred ibis, manifestation of god of wisdom soaring over my head as if teach me a lesson
