The carved-up remains of a dolphin were found on a New Jersey beach
Now federal authorities are investigating.
The marine mammal stranding center says remains of a common dolphin were found on the beach in Allenhurst, north of Asbury Park.
The dolphin appeared to have been butchered, the animal's flesh completely removed with clean cuts from a sharp instrument leaving only the head, dorsal fin, and flukes.
Witnesses had reported seeing a dolphin struggling in the surf Tuesday brock from where the remains were found but it was able to swim back out to sea.
It's unclear if it's the same dolphin.
