(서울·고양=연합뉴스) 설승은 안정훈 기자 = 이재명 대통령은 2일 "새 지도부와 당원 동지 여러분을 믿고 제21대 대한민국 대통령으로서의 책무를 충실하게 이행하겠다"고 말했다.

(Seoul, Goyang = Yonhap News) Reporter Seol Seung-eun = President Lee Jae-myung said on the 2nd, "I believe in the new leadership and our party comrades and will faithfully fulfill my responsibilities as the 21st President of the Republic of Korea."

이재명 대통령은 이날 경기 고양 킨텍스에서 열린 더불어민주당 신임 당 대표 선출을 위한 전당대회에 보낸 영상 축사에서 "곧 출범할 새로운 당 대표님과 지도부에 미리 축하의 말씀을 전한다"면서 이같이 약속했다.

In a video congratulatory speech sent to the party convention to select the new leader of the Democratic Party of Korea at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, President Lee made the promise, saying, "I would like to congratulate the new party leader and the leadership that will be launched soon."

이 대통령은 "약 1년 전 저 역시 동지 여러분과 함께 이 자리에 함께 있었다"며 "국민과 당원의 힘을 모아 성장을 회복하고 희망의 나라, 다시 뛰는 대한민국을 만들겠다고 약속드렸다"고 언급했다.

"About a year ago, I was here with my comrades," President Lee said. "I promised to restore growth and make a country of hope and a Republic of Korea running again by gathering the power of the people and party members."

특히 "국민과 역사가 부여한 사명을 완수하는 길에 민주당이 '원팀'이 돼서 앞장서 줄 것으로 믿는다"며 "지난 대선에서 증명했던 것처럼 민주당은 하나일 때 가장 강하다"고 강조했다.

In particular, he emphasized, "I believe that the Democratic Party will take the lead by becoming a 'one team' on the way to fulfilling the mission given by the people and history," adding, "As proved in the last presidential election, the Democratic Party is strongest when it is one."

또 "우리는 모두 같은 뜻을 품고 같은 곳을 향해가는 동지들"이라며 "한동안은 치열하게 경쟁했더라도 지금 이 순간부터는 새로운 지도부를 중심으로 일치단결해 국민이 주인인 나라, 국민이 행복한 대한민국으로 거침없이 나아가자"고 당부했다.

"We are all comrades heading to the same place with the same meaning," he said. "Even if we competed fiercely for a while, from this moment on, let's unite around the new leadership and move forward without hesitation to a country where the people are the owners and a country where the people are happy."

그러면서 "그럴 때 우리가 직면한 위기의 파고를 슬기롭게 헤쳐 나가 새로운 희망의 나라를 만들 수 있을 것"이라며 "다시 성장하고 도약하는 나라, 함께 잘 사는 나라를 만들라는 국민의 준엄한 명령을 한시도 잊지 않고 있다"고 덧붙였다.

"In that case, we will be able to wisely overcome the crisis we face and create a new country of hope," he said, adding, "We have not forgotten for a moment the people's strict order to grow and leap back and make a country that lives well together."

이 대통령은 "당원 동지 여러분, 고맙습니다"라고도 했다.

President Lee also said, "Friends of the Party, thank you."

민주당은 이날 전당대회에서 대선 전 당 대표였던 이 대통령의 잔여 임기를 이을 새 대표를 선출한다.

The Democratic Party of Korea will elect a new leader to succeed President Lee, who was the leader of the party before the presidential election, at the party convention.

이 대통령은 이날 여름휴가를 위해 경남 거제 저도로 향한다.

President Lee will head to Geoje Island in South Gyeongsang Province for his summer vacation.
