고린도전서 12:26-31

만일 한 지체가 고통을 받으면 모든 지체도 함께 고통을 받고 한 지체가 영광을 얻으면 모든 지체도 함께 즐거워하나니 너희는 그리스도의 몸이요 지체의 각 부분이라 하나님이 교회 중에 몇을 세우셨으니 첫째는 사도요 둘째는 선지자요 세째는 교사요 그 다음은 능력이요 그 다음은 병 고치는 은사와 서로 돕는 것과 다스리는 것과 각종 방언을 하는 것이라 다 사도겠느냐 다 선지자겠느냐 다 교사겠느냐 다 능력을 행하는 자겠느냐 다 병 고치는 은사를 가진 자겠느냐 다 방언을 말하는 자겠느냐 다 통역하는 자겠느냐 너희는 더욱 큰 은사를 사모하라 내가 또한 제일 좋은 길을 너희에게 보이리라

몸의 한 부분이 고통을 당하면 온몸이 함께 고통을 당하고, 한 부분이 영광을 받으면 온몸이 함께 기뻐합니다. 이와 같이 한 교회 안에서 그리스도의 한 지체가 고통을 당하면 온 교회가 함께 아파하고, 한 지체가 영광을 받으면 모든 성도가 함께 기뻐하는 것입니다.

그리스도 안에서 한 몸을 이루는 성도들은 하나의 공동체이며, 동일한 운명을 가진 사람들입니다. 또한 그리스도의 한 몸을 이루도록 하나님께서는 각 사람에게 다양한 은사를 주셨습니다. 주님께서 주신 은사를 누구도 자신의 것이라고 주장해서는 안 되며, 다른 지체들을 섬기는 데 사용해야 합니다. 그 목적은 그리스도의 교회가 세워지고 성장하게 하는 것입니다.

사도와 선지자와 교사로 부름받은 자들은 하나님께서 깨닫게 하시는 말씀을 겸손히 받고, 그것을 다른 지체들에게 부지런히 가르쳐야 합니다. 능력과 병 고치는 은사를 받은 자들도 결코 자신을 자랑해서는 안 되며, 병들고 가난하며 연약한 지체들을 섬기는 데 그 은사를 사용해야 합니다.

모두가 선지자이겠습니까? 모두가 교사이겠습니까? 모두가 병을 고치고 능력을 행하는 자이겠습니까? 모두가 방언을 말하거나 방언을 통역하는 자이겠습니까? 결코 그렇지 않습니다. 주님의 몸 된 교회를 세우고 유지하기 위하여 하나님께서 다양한 은사를 나누어 주신 것입니다. 주님께서 각 사람에게 알맞은 은사를 주시지 않으시면 아무도 스스로 은사를 가질 수 없습니다.

더욱 큰 은사를 사모하십시오. 가장 큰 은사는 영혼을 사랑하는 은사입니다. 영혼을 사랑하는 믿음으로 천국에 이르게 됩니다. 은사의 종류는 매우 많으며 모두 귀한 은사입니다. 그러나 그 은사들을 가지고 다른 영혼을 사랑하고 섬길 때, 그 은사는 하나님께서 기뻐하시는 믿음의 열매가 되는 것입니다.

주님께서 주신 은사로 자신을 자랑하면 사탄의 종이 됩니다. 성령께서 그를 떠나시면 사탄이 그를 지배하게 되고, 비슷한 능력과 은사를 주어 사람들을 미혹합니다. 많은 사람들은 이것을 분별하지 못합니다. 사탄도 여러 가지 능력과 은사를 이용하여 자신의 종들을 이끌어 갑니다.

주님의 종과 사탄의 종은 결국 사랑으로 구별됩니다. 사탄은 사람에게 많은 능력을 행하게 하면서 자신을 자랑하게 하고, 교만과 육신의 정욕을 따라 살게 하여 결국 지옥으로 이끕니다. 그러나 성령께서 주시는 은사는 서로 사랑하고 섬기게 합니다. 자신을 낮추고 다른 사람을 섬기게 하여 마침내 천국에 이르게 하는 것입니다.

1 Corinthians 12:26–31

And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

And God has appointed some in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers; after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, and various kinds of tongues.

Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

When one part of the body suffers, the whole body suffers with it, and when one part is honored, the whole body rejoices with it. In the same way, when one member of Christ suffers within a church, the whole church shares that pain; and when one member receives honor, all the believers rejoice together.

The believers who form one body in Christ are one community and share the same destiny. God has also given various gifts to each person so that they may together form the one body of Christ. No one should claim that a gift given by the Lord belongs to himself. It must be used to serve the other members. Its purpose is to build up the church of Christ and help it grow.

Those who are called to be apostles, prophets, and teachers must humbly receive the words that God enables them to understand and diligently teach them to the other members. Those who have received gifts of miracles and healing must never boast about themselves. They must use their gifts to care for the sick, the poor, and the weak members.

Is everyone a prophet? Is everyone a teacher? Does everyone heal the sick and perform miracles? Does everyone speak in tongues or interpret tongues? Certainly not. God has distributed various gifts in order to build up and preserve the church, which is the body of the Lord. Unless the Lord gives each person an appropriate gift, no one can obtain a spiritual gift by himself.

Earnestly desire the greater gifts. The greatest gift is the gift of loving souls. It is through faith that loves souls that we enter the kingdom of heaven. There are many kinds of gifts, and every gift is precious. However, when we use those gifts to love and serve other souls, they become the fruit of faith that pleases God.

When a person uses the gift given by the Lord to boast about himself, he becomes a servant of Satan. When the Holy Spirit leaves him, Satan takes control of him and gives him similar powers and gifts in order to deceive people. Many people are unable to discern the difference. Satan also uses various powers and gifts to lead his servants.

In the end, the servants of the Lord and the servants of Satan are distinguished by love. Satan causes people to perform many powerful works, boast about themselves, and live according to pride and the desires of the flesh, eventually leading them to hell. However, the gifts of the Holy Spirit cause people to love and serve one another. They lead people to humble themselves, serve others, and finally enter the kingdom of heaven.
