to love Him, we must know Him 사랑하기 위해 알아야 한다

[Those Divine demands

He demands our worship, our obedience, our prostration.

​Do we suppose that they can do [Him] [any good],

or fear, like the chorus in Milton, that human irreverence can bring about ‘His glory’s diminution’?

A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun

But God wills our good, and our good is to love Him (with that responsive love /proper to creatures)

and to love Him, we must know Him: and if we know Him, we shall in fact fall /on our faces.

Yet the call is not only to prostration and awe;

it is to a reflection of the Divine life,

a creaturely participation in the Divine attributes //which is far beyond our present desires.

We are bidden to ‘put on Christ’, to become like God.

​That is, whether we like it or not, God intends [to give us what we need, not what we now think () we want].

​Once more, we are embarrassed /by the intolerable compliment, by too much love, not too little.

우리의 자연본성적 귀에 거의 전제군주의 것들 같고 적어도 연인의 것들 같지 않게 들리는 그런 신적인 요구들은 
in fact marshal us where we should want to go /if we knew [what we wanted].
사실 우리가 만약 무엇을 원하는지를 안다면 가기를 원했어야 하는 그곳으로 가도록 안내한다

 He demands our worship, our obedience, our prostration. 
하나님은 우리의 예배와 순종과 경배를 요구하신다

Do we suppose that they can do Him any good, 

우리는 그것들이 그분께 어떤 좋은 일을 할 수 있을 것이라고 추측해야 하는가?

* 자원적으로 하는 것과 요구해서 하는 것과 동기나 결과가 천지차이가 있는데 왜 하나님께서는 요구를 하실까 하지만

예배와 순종과 경배에는 막대한 축복이라는 좋은 일이 보장되지만 안 하면 자神을 순종하다가 망할 게 뻔한 때문이다

아니면, 밀턴의 '삼손 챔피언'이라는 희극의 후렴처럼, 인간의 불경이 그분의 영광에 감소를 야기할 수 있는 공포인가?

* 사랑의 하나님께서 공포를 조장해서 존경을 받으실 분이 아니며 인간의 불경이 하나님의 영광에 흠집을 낼 수도 없다

* 세상엔 정신병자가 수두룩한데 자기가 안 믿는다고 존재가 없어지고 믿는다고 없던 게 있게 된다 믿는 건 광신인데

불신자가 신이 없다는 자기생각을 믿는 거나 기독인이 성경의 자기해석을 믿는 것도 신이 아닌 자神을 믿는 광신도나

안 보이지만 있으니까 있다고 믿는 것이 참 믿음이요 참 신자인 건 누구나 살면서 경험하고 증명하는 사실인 때문이다

But God wills our good, and our good is to love Him
그러나 하나님께서는 우리의 선을 의지적으로 원하시고, 우리의 선은 그분을 사랑하는 것이다

 (with that responsive love /proper to creatures) (피조물에게 타당한 그런 반응적 사랑으로 하는 사랑으로)
and to love Him we must know Him:
그리고 그분을 사랑하기 위해서 우리는 그분을 잘 알아야 한다

 and if we know Him, we shall in fact fall /on our faces. 
​그리고 만약 우리가 그분을 안다면, 우리는 사실 우리의 얼굴을 땅바닥에 대고 부복할 것이다 

* 모르는 사람을 사랑할 수 없는 건 상식인데 잘 모르면서 알려고 하지도 않고 말로만 사랑한다고 하는 건 몰상식이다

만약 우리가 하지 않으면, 그건 단지 우리가 사랑하려는 그것이 아직 하나님은 아니라는 걸 보여준다

비록 그것이 우리의 생각이나 공상이 취득할 수 있는 가장 근접한 하나님이실 수도 있지만 
​

* 비록 유한한 물질이나 사람에 대한 근사치를 안다 해도 전부가 아닌 일부에 지나지 않으므로 완전하지 않기에

몰랐던 부분으로 인해서 뒤통수를 맞는 일이 비일비재한데 하나님을 많이 안다 해도 우주보다 크신 분이시므로

단지 계시된 극히 일부만 아는 걸 다 안다고 하여 전부로 포장된 일부는 참 하나님을 오도하는 오만방자가 되며

계시된 성경 66권도 보통 사람이 감당하기엔 너무나도 방대한 내용이라 다 알 수는 없지만 계속 알아가야 한다 

 Yet the call is not only to prostration and awe; 

그렇지만 소명은 단지 부복하고 감탄하는 것만은 아니다

it is to a reflection of the Divine life, 

그건 신성한 삶에 대한 투영/반사함에 있는데

a creaturely participation in the Divine attributes //which is far beyond our present desires. 
신의 성품에 피조물로서 참여하는 그건 우리의 현재의 욕망을 한참 멀리 지나치는 것이다

* 이기적인 사람에게 이타적인 사랑은 달나라 얘기고 원수사랑은 감히 생각지도 못하도록 아뜩한 일이다

We are bidden to ‘put on Christ’, to become like God. 
우리는 그리스도로 옷 입으려고 명령받았다; 하나님처럼 되라고

* 마귀가 초대부모를 꼬시며 한 말이 "선악을 아는 일에 하나님처럼 돼라"는 유혹이었는데 선악을 안다 해도

악은 떡 먹듯 쉽게 하지만 선을 행하기란 너무나도 어려운 걸 안다면 선악과 먹은 걸 후회하는 게 정상인데

하나님께서는 선악이나 아는 정도가 아니고 하나님의 아들인 예수님처럼 되라고 하시니 죄인에게 멘붕온다

That is, whether we like it or not, 
말하자면, 우리가 좋아하든 싫어하든,

God intends to give us what we need, not what we now think we want. 

하나님께서는 우리가 지금 원한다고 생각하는 그것이 아니고 우리가 필요한 그것을 주시기를 의도하신다

* 원하는 건 많지만 그것들이 다 필요한 것은 아니기에 원해서 취했다가 불필요해서 버리는 일이 비일비재하니

세상에 불필요한 쓰레기가 넘쳐나지만 여전히 더 원하고 더 버리는 걸 반복하니 한심한데 필요한 것만 가지면

유용하게 쓰고 또 쓰다 망가지면 버릴 것이므로 환경오염도 덜 돼서 좋기에 원함 보다는 필요를 추구해야 한다

Once more, we are embarrassed /by the intolerable compliment, by too much love, not too little.
다시 한번, 우리는 감당 못 할 찬사로 인해서,  너무나 적은 게 아니고 너무나 많은 사랑으로 인해서, 당황하게 된다 
​

* 버러지만도 못한 죄인의 대속을 위해 하나님의 아들이 희생되었다는 것은 너무나도 과분한 일이 아닐 수 없다
