고린도전서 13:1-8

내가 사람의 방언과 천사의 말을 할찌라도 사랑이 없으면 소리나는 구리와 울리는 꽹과리가 되고 내가 예언하는 능이 있어 모든 비밀과 모든 지식을 알고 또 산을 옮길만한 모든 믿음이 있을찌라도 사랑이 없으면 내가 아무 것도 아니요 내가 내게 있는 모든 것으로 구제하고 또 내 몸을 불사르게 내어 줄찌라도 사랑이 없으면 내게 아무 유익이 없느니라.

사랑은 오래 참고 사랑은 온유하며 투기하는 자가 되지 아니하며 사랑은 자랑하지 아니하며 교만하지 아니하며 무례히 행치 아니하며 자기의 유익을 구치 아니하며 성내지 아니하며 악한 것을 생각지 아니하며 불의를 기뻐하지 아니하며 진리와 함께 기뻐하고 모든 것을 참으며 모든 것을 믿으며 모든 것을 바라며 모든 것을 견디느니라 사랑은 언제까지든지 떨어지지 아니하나 예언도 폐하고 방언도 그치고 지식도 폐하리라.

사랑은 하나님의 신성과 본성을 나타내는 가장 중요한 속성입니다. 하나님께서 인간과 천사와 만물을 창조하신 목적은 하나님의 나라를 세우시고 그 나라 안에서 참된 사랑이 이루어지게 하시기 위함입니다. 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 사랑하는 것이 인간이 존재하는 가장 큰 목적입니다.

우리가 하나님을 사랑할 때 하나님께서는 영광을 받으시고, 이웃을 사랑할 때 세상에는 행복과 평안이 더욱 충만해집니다. 이 목적이 완전하게 이루어지는 곳이 바로 천국입니다. 그러므로 천국에 들어가기 위해서는 이 땅에서 사랑을 배우고 실천하며 훈련해야 합니다. 우상을 버리고, 이웃에게 악을 행하지 말며 선을 행하는 삶을 힘써 살아야 합니다.

사랑을 실천하지 않는 그리스도인의 믿음은 참된 믿음이라 할 수 없습니다. 아무리 큰 능력을 행하고, 자신의 몸을 희생하며, 사람들에게 칭찬받는 일을 한다 할지라도 사랑이 없다면 하나님 앞에서는 아무 유익이 없습니다. 하나님께서는 우리의 능력보다 사랑을 기뻐하십니다. 그러므로 우리는 서로를 용서하고, 미워하지 않으며, 자원하는 마음으로 다른 사람을 섬기고 도우려는 마음을 가져야 합니다.

세상의 모든 것은 결국 사라집니다. 그러나 사랑으로 행한 삶은 영원히 남습니다. 참된 믿음은 사랑으로 나타나며, 그 믿음이 우리를 영생과 천국으로 인도합니다. 우리 모두는 부족한 존재이기에 오래 참고 서로를 이해해야 합니다. 또한 주님께서 약속하신 영원한 나라를 바라보며, 주님의 은혜 가운데 살아가다가 마침내 천국에서 영원토록 주님과 함께 기쁨을 누리게 될 것입니다.

그러므로 교만하지 말고, 무례하게 행동하지 말며, 세상의 유익을 위해 쉽게 분노하지 말아야 합니다. 악한 생각을 버리고 불의를 기뻐하지 말며, 언제나 진리와 함께 기뻐해야 합니다. 천국의 소망을 가진 사람은 세상의 것에 마음을 빼앗기지 않습니다. 사랑은 우리의 마음을 넓게 하고 끝까지 인내하게 합니다.

지식과 능력과 돈과 명예와 쾌락, 그리고 육신에 속한 모든 것은 결국 사라집니다. 그러나 사랑은 영원합니다. 그러므로 세상의 것만을 좇는 삶은 세상과 함께 사라질 것이지만, 사랑 안에 거하는 사람은 하나님의 나라에서 영원한 생명을 누리게 될 것입니다.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away

Love is the most important attribute that reveals God’s divine nature and character. God created human beings, angels, and all things in order to establish His kingdom and bring true love to fulfillment within it. The greatest purpose of human existence is to love God and to love our neighbors.

When we love God, He is glorified, and when we love our neighbors, the world becomes filled with greater happiness and peace. Heaven is the place where this purpose is perfectly fulfilled. Therefore, in order to enter heaven, we must learn, practice, and train ourselves to love while living on this earth. We must forsake idols, refrain from doing evil to our neighbors, and diligently live a life of doing good.

The faith of a Christian who does not practice love cannot be called true faith. No matter how great the works of power one may perform, how much one may sacrifice oneself, or how highly one may be praised by others, without love, none of it has any value before God. God delights more in our love than in our abilities. Therefore, we must forgive one another, refuse to hate, and have a willing heart to serve and help others.

Everything in this world will eventually pass away. However, a life lived in love will remain forever. True faith is revealed through love, and such faith leads us to eternal life and heaven. Because we are all imperfect, we must be patient and seek to understand one another. We must also look forward to the eternal kingdom promised by the Lord, live in His grace, and finally enter heaven, where we will rejoice and live happily with Him forever.

Therefore, we must not be proud or behave rudely, nor should we become easily angered for the sake of worldly gain. We must cast away evil thoughts, refuse to rejoice in unrighteousness, and always rejoice together with the truth. Those who have the hope of heaven do not allow their hearts to be consumed by the things of this world. Love enlarges our hearts and enables us to endure to the end.

Knowledge, power, money, honor, pleasure, and everything belonging to the flesh will eventually pass away. But love is eternal. Therefore, a life that pursues only the things of this world will perish together with the world, but those who abide in love will enjoy eternal life in the kingdom of God.
