Lee orders thorough probe into lawmaker's alleged stock transactions under borrowed name

SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday called for a swift and thorough investigation into an allegation that Rep. Lee Choon-suak traded stocks under a borrowed name.

Lee's instruction came a day after the lawmaker left the ruling Democratic Party after a press photo captured him checking and trading stocks on a mobile phone using his aide's account, in an allegation that tarnished the government's policy of reinvigorating the stock market via transparent trading practices.
​
"President Lee said he takes the 'matter seriously' in light of the allegation surrounding the lawmaker's stock trading," presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said during a press briefing.
​
Lee also ordered the immediate dismissal of the lawmaker from the presidential committee on policy planning.
​
Rep. Lee has been serving as the head of a subcommittee on science and artificial intelligence under the policy planning committee.
​
His position also raised concerns of potential conflict of interest, as the photo showed him trading domestic tech stocks, including Naver Corp. and LG CNS Co., an information technology affiliate of South Korea's LG Electronics Inc.
