한번은 유튜브에서 관심이 가는 영상을 봤다.

When I put something in my shopping cart,
an algorithm recommends similar products.
내가 장바구니에 뭔가를 담으면,
알고리즘이 유사 상품을 추천해 준다.
3. have one's head on straight
    사리분별을 하다, 합리적으로 행동하다
I'm not a fool, and I have my head on straight.
나는 사리분별을 못할 만큼 어리석지는 않다.
4. less of a hassle
   덜 귀찮은 일
Watching at home is less of a hassle,
and it's easier  on the wallet.
집에서 영화 보고 나면 귀찮지도 않고,
비용도 덜 들잖아.

Recommendation Algorithms in Our Daily Lives

Talk about the recommendation algorithms in our daily lives.

Recommendation algorithms are being used in lives,

sometimes right under your nose.

There are times when I see something

and wonder whether it came from an algorithm.

Once, I saw a video that grabbled my interest on YouTube.

After I finished watching it, there were several recommendations

for similar videos.

This was an example of an algrithm at work,

and I remember how helpful it was.

When I search for products to shop online,

or put something in my shopping cart, an algorithm recommends

similar or related products.

I'm usually satisfied with these algorithms.

Sometimes, they come in hady.

But there are times when I worry that the algorithms make me

act passively.

I'm not a fool, and I have my head on straight.

But I sometimes ask myself whether I am becoming a slave

to algorithms.

우리 일상 속의 추천 알고리즘에 대해서 이야기해 주세요.

추천 알고리즘은 알게 모르게 우리 삶에 활용되고 있다.

가끔 무엇인가를 보고 이것도 알고리즘인지 궁금해하기도 한다.

한번은 유튜브에서 관심이 가는 영상을 봤다.

그것을 보고 나니, 유사한 영상을 여러 개 추천해 주었다.

이것도 알고리즘이 적용한 예였고, 나름 도움이 되었던 기억이 있다.

또한 온라인 쇼핑을 하려고 상품 검색을 하거나 장바구니에 뭔가를

담으면, 알고리즘이 유사 상품이나 연관 있는 상품들을 추천해 준다.

나는 대체적으로 이런 추천 알고리즘에 만족하고 도움을 받을 때도 있다.

그러나 가끔은 알고리즘이 나를 수동적으로 행동하게 만드는 것은

아닌지 걱정이 되기도 한다.

물론 내가 사리분별을 못할 만큼 어리석지는 않다.

그러나 내가 알고리즘의 노예가 되어 가는 것은 아닌지

내 스스로 질문을 던질 때가 있다.

추천 알고리즘은 알게 모르게 우리 삶에 

흔하게 쓰이고 있다. 

가끔 무엇인가를 보고 

이것도 알고리즘인지조차도 모를 때가 있다.

- Recommendation algorithms are in common in lives, 

  sometimes right under your nose. 

  There are times when you see something 

  but you don't even notice that it comes from 

  an algorithm.

+ recommendation : 추천,권고/추천장

+ algorithm : 알고리즘(앨고리덤 으로 발음)

  -어떤 문제해결을 위해서 입력된 자료를 토대로 

   원하는 출력을 유도해내는 규칙의 집합

+ be in common : 흔하다,흔히 쓰이다

+ right under one's nose: 바로 앞에서 (알게 모르게)​

유튜브에서 관심이 가는 영상을 보고 나면 

유사한 영상이 계속 추천되는 것을 보았을 것이다. 

이것이 알고리즘이 작용한 한 예이다. 

또한 온라인 쇼핑을 하려고 상품검색을 하기만 해도 

유사상품이나 관련 상품을 띄워 준다. 

장바구니에 뭔가를 담아놓을 때도 그렇다.

- After you watched a video of your interest on YouTube, 

  you might have seen several recommendations 

  for similar videos. 

  That was an example of an algorithm at work. 

  Just searching a product to shop online 

  brings up similar or related products. 

  The same has happened when you put put something 

  in my shopping cart.

나는 전체적으로 이런 추천 알고리즘에 만족하고 

편리하다고 생각한다. 

그러나 내가 알고리즘의 노예가 되어 수동적으로 

행동하고 있는것은 아닌지 걱정이 될 때도 있다.

- Overall, I'm satisfied with these recommendation 

  algorithms. 

  I think they come in handy. 

  But there are times when I worry whether I'm becoming 

  a slave to algorithms and acting passively.

   (온라인)장바구니에 넣다

- A online clothing store has a blowout sale on all their items, 

  so I put them in my shopping cart willy-nilly.

  한 온라인 의류 업체가 모든 품목에 대해 파격 할인행사를 해서 

  닥치는대로 장바구니에 일단 넣어놨다.

+ blowout sale :  파격 세일

+ willy-nilly : 닥치는대로, 되는대로, 좋아하든 말든

3. have one's head on straight  

   사리분별을 하다, 합리적으로 행동하다

- He makes a silly joke a lot, 

  but he always has his head on straight. 

  그가 실없는 농담을 많이 하긴 하지만 

  항상 사리분별을 할 줄은 안다.

Dialogue  Practice

집에서 영화를 보면 귀찮음도 덜하고, 

비용 부담도 적다. 

그리고 영화 보고 나면, 내 취향에 맞는 콘텐츠를 추천해준다. 

알고리즘이 실행되서 그렇다.

- Watching movies at home is less of a hassle, 

  and it's easier on the wallet. 

  After I watch one, it suggests content that is just 

  my cup of tea.

어떤 문제의 해결을 위하여, 입력된 자료를 토대로 

하여 원하는 출력을  유도하여 내는 규칙의 집합.
