7. 한국에서부터 타오르고 있는 새 종교이념의 봉화

이 아침에 본인은 혁명적인 발언이 될지도 모르겠지만 토인비 박사가 말한 그 빛, 즉 세계를 살릴 수 있는 새 종교이념은 한국에서 출현할 것이라고 주저 없이 선언하는 바입니다. 아니 그 정신혁명의 봉화는 한국에서 들리어 세계를 향하여 이글이글 타오르고 있습니다. 이미 서구문명 속에 비화되어 초국가 초민족적인 차원에서 수십만의 젊은이들의 가슴에 불을 붙였습니다. 그들에게는 새 가치관과 새 인생관이 들어박혔습니다. 철저한 도덕혁명이 일어나고 있습니다. 세계 인류 구원을 위한 희생적 봉사가 실천되고 있습니다. 그 정신혁명의 봉화가 통일교회 운동인 것입니다.

이 정신혁명이 올바르게 미국의 물질문명과 접붙이게 되면 마음과 몸이 만나게 될 것입니다. 그 순간부터 미국은 마음을 만나니 소망이 있고, 한국은 몸을 만나니 소망이 있습니다. 그리고 한국과 미국이 합하여 한 몸이 되어서 세계 구원운동에 나설 때 세계는 소망이 있는 것입니다. 이 정신혁명의 힘은 공산주의를 이길 수 있는 힘입니다. 이 정신혁명의 충격이 얼마나 컸던가 하는 것을 다음과 같은 실례를 들어 말씀드리겠습니다.

미국에서 많은 물의를 일으킨 본인에 대한 비난의 초점은 미국 젊은이들을 세뇌한다는 것이었습니다. 우리 정신운동의 충격이 얼마나 컸으면 똑똑한 미국 사람들이 본인에게 자기네들을 세뇌한다고 말했겠습니까? 본인은 1975년 12월 18일, 하원의원들 앞에서 강연할 때 이렇게 말하였습니다. ‘현명하신 의원 여러분에게 한마디 물어봅시다. 미국 사람들이 한국에서 온 이 사람, 언제나 통역을 두고 설교하는 이 레버런 문에게 세뇌를 당할 만큼 어리석은 사람들입니까?’ 본인의 이 말에 의원들은 명답을 들었다 하였습니다.

미국 통일교회 안에 몰래 침투한 한 신문기자는 교회 선반 구석구석을 뒤져 레버런 문이 세뇌 공작에 쓰는 약병을 찾기에 혈안이 되었다고 합니다. 무슨 약을 먹여서 세뇌하는 줄 안 모양입니다. 그러다가 우리 일화 인삼차 병을 찾아냈습니다. ‘옳다, 이것이다!’ 하고 가지고 가서는 아무리 먹어 봐도 정신적인 변화는 일어나지 않고 기분만 좋더라는 것입니다.

미국 청년들은 본인이 가지고 간 무슨 약을 먹고 세뇌되는 것이 아니라 하나님께서 본인에게 주신 말씀을 듣고 인격혁명이 일어나는 것입니다. 하나님께서 한국 땅을 통하여 내리신 새 말씀은 한번 듣기만 하면 인격혁명이 일어납니다. 극히 이기주의적인 미국 사람들이 세계를 위하여 희생하겠다고 나섭니다. 마약의 노예에서 해방됩니다. 음란했던 과거에서 해방됩니다. 부모에게는 효도, 나라에는 충성, 하나님에게는 생명을 바쳐 가며 봉사하려는 거룩한 인격자들이 되어 갑니다. 더군다나 그들이 공산주의를 하나님의 원수로 인정하고 그들과 싸우려는 신념이 세상에 어떤 신념보다 강하게 타오르게 됩니다.

어찌하여 하나님께서 세상을 구원하시려는 마지막 이념을 우리 조국 대한민국을 통하여 나타내는 것입니까? 한국은 무슨 자격이 있었기에 끝날에 이와 같은 택함을 받은 나라가 되었겠습니까? 한마디로 말해서 한민족은 하나님의 사정을 알아들을 수 있는 민족이기 때문입니다.

역사상에 하나님을 기쁘신 분이 아니라 슬픔의 제왕으로 아는 자가 없었습니다. 하나님은 창세시부터 자식을 잃은 부모였습니다. 아무리 제왕이라고 할지라도 자식을 잃은 부모는 비참하고 불쌍합니다. 역사 가운데 계시는 하나님은 불쌍한 아버지였습니다. 이 불쌍한 아버지에게 있어서 최대의 효자는 그 아버지의 아픔과 슬픔을 대신하는 아들입니다. 한민족이 바로 그런 위치에서 택함 받은 것입니다.

7. 韓国から上がる新しい宗教理念の烽火

きょうの朝、革命的な発言になるかもしれませんが、私は、トィンビー博士が言われるその「光」、すなわち世界を生かすことのできる新しい宗教理念は、韓国から出現すると躊躇なく宣言する次第です。その精神革命の烽火は既に韓国から上がり、世界に向かって赤々と燃えています。既に西欧文明の中に飛び火して、超国家、超民族的次元で、数十万の若者たちの胸に火がともりました。彼らには、新しい価値観と新しい人生観が打ち込まれました。徹底した道徳革命が起こっています。世界人類救援のための犠牲的な奉仕が実践されています。その精神革命の烽火が、すなわち統一教会運動なのです。

この精神革命がしっかりとアメリカの物質文明と接ぎ木されれば、心と体が出会うことになります。その瞬間から、アメリカは心と出会うので望みがあり、韓国は体と出会うので望みがあります。さらに韓国とアメリカが一体となって世界救援運動に携わるとき、世界には望みがあるのです。この精神革命の力は、共産主羲に打ち勝つことのできる力です。この精神革命の衝撃がいかに大きいか、次のような実例を挙げて申し上げましょう。

アメリカで多くの物議を醸した私に対する非難の焦点は、アメリカの若者たちを洗脳するということでした。私たちの精神運動の衝撃があまりにも大きいので、賢いアメリカ人たちは私に、「自分たちを洗脳している」と言うのではないでしょうか。私は一九七五年十二月十八日、アメリカの下院議員たちの前で講演したとき、このように言いました。「賢明な議員の皆様に一言質問いたします。アメリカ人たちは韓国から来たこの人、いつも通訳をおいて説教するこのレバレンドムーンに洗脳されるほど、愚かな人たちですか」。私のこの言葉に、議員たちは名答を得たということでした。

アメリカの統一教会内に密かに侵入した一人の新聞記者は、統一教会の棚の隅々をくまなく探し、レバレンドムーンが洗脳工作に使う薬の瓶を探すのに血眼になったそうです。何か薬を飲ませて洗脳しているものと思ったようです。そのうち、彼は一和の高麗人蔘茶の瓶を見つけたのです。「ああ、これだ！」と言って持っていったのですが、いくら飲んでみても、何の精神的な変化も起こらず、気分だけが良かったそうです。

アメリカの青年たちは、私が持っていった何かの薬を飲んで洗脳されたわけではなく、神様が私に下さったみ言を聞いて、人格革命が起こるのです。韓国の地を通して神様が下さった新しいみ言は、一度聞けば人格革命が起こります。極めて利己主義的なアメリカ人たちが、世界のために犠牲になろうと立ち上がります。麻薬の奴隷から解放されます。淫乱の過去から解放されます。父母には孝行、国には忠誠、神様には生命を捧げて奉仕しようとする、高潔な人格者となっていくのです。のみならず、彼らは、共産主義を神様の怨讐として認め、共産主義と闘おうという信念が、この世のどの信念よりも強く燃えるようになります。

なぜ神様は、この世を救援しようとする最終理念を、私たちの祖国大韓民国を通して現すのでしょうか。「終わりの日」にこのような選ばれた国になったのは、韓国にいかなる資格があるからなのでしょうか。一言で言えば、韓民族は神様の事情を知り得る民族だからです。歴史上において、神様が喜びの方ではなく、悲しみの帝王であられることを、知る人がいませんでした。神様は、創世の時から子女を失った父母でした。いかに帝王であろうとも、子女を失った父母は悲惨でかわいそうです。歴史の中におられる神様は、かわいそうな父でした。そのかわいそうな父にとって、最大の孝行息子は、その父の痛みと悲しみを身代わりする息子です。韓民族は正にそのような立場で選ばれたのです。

7. The fire of a new religious teaching blazes as a beacon from Korea

It may seem revolutionary, but this morning I proclaim without hesitation that the light which Toynbee spoke about, the new religious teaching that can save the world, will appear in Korea. The fire of that spiritual revolution has already been lit in Korea. It is already a beacon burning brightly for the world.

Even now, Western civilization is bursting into flame! Already hundreds of thousands of young people of all nations and races have the flame of that spiritual revolution in their hearts. A new standard of value and a new viewpoint of life have already been planted within them. All over the world they are bringing a total moral revolution, practicing sacrificial service for the sake of humanity.

The beacon of that spiritual revolution is the Unification Church. If this spiritual revolution is properly grafted to the material civilization of America, it will be the moment when the spirit and body meet. At that moment, America will have hope because it will meet with the spirit, and Korea will also have hope because it will meet with the body. Therefore, if America and Korea become one, they will go forward to begin a movement for world restoration. Then the world will have hope. This power of that spiritual revolution will be enough to defeat world communism.

I have created so many controversies in America. The main accusation against me is that I brainwash the youth. The spiritual movement I lead has created such a shock that intelligent American people say I brainwash their children. On December 12,1975, when I was asked about this at the United States House of Representatives, I replied, “Let me ask you distinguished congressmen a question. Are you dumb enough to be brainwashed by me, this man who came from Korea and always has to speak through an interpreter?” The congressmen said I gave a wise answer!

A reporter is said to have sneaked into the Unification Church in America and made a desperate attempt to find bottles containing the drugs that Rev. Moon supposedly uses for brainwashing. It seems that he thought we brainwash by using some kind of drug. At last he found a bottle of our II Hwa ginseng tea. “Ah ha! This is it!” he exclaimed, and ran off to try it. However, he didn’t experience any mental disorientation, only a feeling of wellbeing.

I don’t brainwash American youth, by drugs or otherwise. Rather, they go through a revolution within their hearts when they hear the teachings that God gave me. This is true. Even hearing only once the truth that God gave me in this land of Korea is enough to bring about a revolution within the heart. It brings even the most individualistic Americans to step forward and be willing to sacrifice for the world. They free themselves from slavery to drugs and sexual immorality. They discover their identity as God’s children. They become patriotic Americans. They willingly dedicate their lives to serving God and take up the path to becoming holy men and women of character. Moreover, they recognize that communism is the enemy of God, and burn with desire to liberate humankind from communism.

How is it that God chose our homeland of Korea as the place wherein to reveal the ultimate ideology for the restoration of the world? What qualifications does Korea have in the Last Days to become the chosen nation? To put it briefly, it is because the Korean people are a people who can understand God’s circumstances. Throughout history, no one knew that God was not a God of joy but rather the King of kings of sorrow. No one knew that God was the Parent who had lost His children from the very day of creation. A Parent who has lost His children is miserable and to be pitied even if He is the King of kings.

The God of all history is a Parent with whom we should sympathize. The most dutiful child to this Parent who is deserving of pity is the person who takes on the burden of his Parent’s sorrows. The Korean people were chosen for this role.
