9. 우리가 궁극적으로 벌여야 할 새사랑운동

한국은 하나님의 특별 보호가 있는 한 그 누구도 손끝 하나 까딱하지 못합니다. 한국을 해치려는 세력은 하나님의 힘에 의하여 하나하나 꺾이어 나갑니다. 이번 미국 의회에서 한국을 망치려던 프레이저 의원의 패망은 그 좋은 예입니다.

여러분! 우리 조국 한국은 새 시대의 선구자요, 하나님의 총아입니다. 우리는 오랜 고생 끝에 새 시대의 왕자로서 등장할 때가 되었습니다. 이때 우리는 깨달아야 합니다. 한민족을 하나님이 부르신 것은 하나님께서 한국만 잘살게 하기 위해서가 아닙니다. 세계의 구원을 위해서입니다. 한국은 세계의 구원역사를 위해 소명받은 나라임을 깨달아야 합니다.

우리는 하나님께 부름을 받았으니 하나님의 세계 구원역사를 위하여 누구보다도 제일 먼저 자신을 희생시킬 수 있는 사랑의 왕자가 되어야 합니다. 우리가 하나님의 뜻을 위해 죽는 것은 곧 사는 것이요, 고생하는 것은 곧 영광의 자리에 오르는 길입니다. 예수께서 ‘나를 위하여 죽고자 하는 자는 살고 살고자 하는 자는 죽는다.’라고 한 뜻이 바로 이것이었습니다.

한국의 새마을운동은 역사에 빛나는 민족 자립갱생의 금자탑입니다. 이것은 단군 이래 그 유례를 보지 못했던 과업이요, 세계 어느 나라의 역사에도 이것에 필적할 만한 기록이 없습니다. 우리나라의 공업 발전은 전후 일본이나 독일의 부흥이 따르지 못하는 기록입니다. 더군다나 이와 같은 급속한 성장이 호시탐탐 남침을 노리는 북한 김일성을 눈앞에 놓고 이루어졌다는 데 큰 의의가 있는 것입니다.

미국 사람들은 본인을 보고 박정희 대통령과 무슨 밀접한 관계가 있다고 뒤집어씌우려 하지만 그것은 가소로운 일입니다. 본인은 박 대통령을 한 번도 만나 보지 않은 사람입니다. 그러나 잘하는 일을 보고 잘한다고 말하지 못한다면 의인의 도리가 아닙니다. 박 대통령은 이 중요한 시기에 하늘이 내리신 지도자라고 본인은 확신합니다. 이분이 아니었던들 우리 조국의 부흥은 고사하고 김일성의 적화 야욕으로부터 견디기조차 어려웠으리라고 본인은 생각합니다.

그런데 하늘이 이 역사적인 시점에 이와 같은 지도자를 내세워 우리 조국을 급속도로 부흥케 하시는 이유가 있습니다. 이제 한국은 새 정신문화의 발상지가 되어 세계를 지도하고 세계에 웅비할 때가 되었으니 그 한국이 이제 더 이상 고난 속에 구차스럽게 쪼들려서는 안 되기 때문입니다. 말하자면 하나님께서 한국을 이제 전권특명대사로 세계에 내보내시려는데 그 대사를 남루한 걸레 옷을 입혀 나가게 할 수 없는 것입니다.

예복으로 입혀 세계 앞에 나서게 하려는 것이 하나님의 뜻입니다. 한국은 명실공히 세계의 지도상을 갖추어야 합니다. 이제 한국은 어느 모로 보나 세계 여러 나라에 모범이 되고, 부러움의 대상이 되고, 그들의 존경을 받을 수 있어야 합니다.

그런데 한국의 새마을운동은 ‘우리도 한번 잘살아 보자!’ 하는 데서 그쳐서는 안 됩니다. 새마을운동은 세계를 잘살게 하는 운동으로 승화되어야 합니다. 그러한 새마을운동이 새마음운동으로 전진한 것은 너무나 하나님의 뜻에 맞는 일입니다. 새마을운동이 내 몸을 잘살게 하는 운동이라면, 새마음운동은 내 영혼을 잘살게 하는 운동이기 때문입니다. 그리고 이 새마음운동은 충효정신을 중추로 하였으니, 이 새마음운동이 세계로 뻗어 나갈 때 세계는 우리로부터 참다운 충효정신을 배울 것입니다. 그런데 이 새마음운동도 한 번 더 전진해야 합니다.

그리고 우리가 궁극적으로 벌일 운동은 새사랑운동입니다. 새사랑운동은 하나님을 아버지로 사랑하고 내 이웃을 내 몸과 같이 사랑하는 운동입니다. 새사랑의 극치는 희생입니다. 하나님과 세계와 나라와 동포를 위하여 희생할 줄 아는 운동으로 승화되어야 합니다. 그리스도의 궁극적인 가르침이 이것이었습니다.

그러나 기독교 역사는 이 새사랑운동을 하는 데에서 항상 실패하였습니다. 자기만이 살고 자기만을 위하려는 운동은 반드시 망합니다. 나를 죽여서 남을 살리는 운동만이 영원히 남습니다. 이스라엘 선민들에게는 바로 이러한 깨달음이 없었기 때문에 예수 그리스도를 십자가에 못 박았습니다. 기독교의 전성기를 향유한 로마가 자기중심의 자기주의에 날뛸 때 그 제국도 내부에서 붕괴되고 말았습니다.

9. 私たちが究極的に始めるべき新しい愛の運動

韓国は、神様の特別な保護がある限り、誰が攻めてこようと指一本触れることもできません。韓国を害そうとする勢力は、神様の力によって一つ一つ敗れ去っていきます。今回、アメリカの議会で韓国を潰そうとするフレーザー議員の敗北は、その良い例です。

皆様。我が祖国韓国は、新しい時代の先駆者であり、神様の寵児です。私たちは、長い間の苦労の末に、新しい時代の王者として登場する時が来ました。このとき、私たちは悟らなければなりません。神様が韓民族を召命されたのは、韓国のみを良くするためではありません。

世界を救援するために召命されたのです。韓国は、世界の救援摂理のために召命された国であることを悟らなければなりません。私たちは神様に召命されたので、神様の世界の救援摂理のために、誰よりも一番先に、自分を犠牲にできる愛の王者にならなければなりません。

私たちが、神様のみ旨のために死ぬことは、すなわち生きることであり、苦労することは、すなわち栄光の位置に登る道です。イエス様が「自分の命を救おうとするものは、それを失い、それを失ものは、保つのである」(ルカ一七三三)と言われた意味が、正にこのことだったのです。

韓国のセマウル運動は、歴史に輝く民族の自立、更生の金字塔です。これは檀君以来、その類例を見ない課業であり、世界のどの国の歴史にも、これに匹敵する記録がありません。我が国の工業発展は、戦後の日本やドイツの復興をも凌駕する記録です。加えて、このような急速な成長を、虎視眈々と南侵を狙う北朝鮮の金日成主席の目前において成し遂げたということは、大きな意義があります。

アメリカ人たちは、私に対して、朴正熙大統領と何か密接な関係がないかと罪を着せようとしていますが、それはばかげたことです。私は、朴大統領と一度も会ったことのない人間です。

しかし、成功しているのを見て、よくやっていると言うことができないのであれば、それは義人の道理ではありません。朴大統領は、この重要な時期に天が遣わされた指導者であると私は確信します。この方でなければ、我が祖国の復興は言うまでもなく、金日成主席の赤化野望から、もちこたえることさえ難しかったと私は思います。

天がこの歴史的な時点に、このような指導者を立てて、我が祖国を急速に復興させたのには理由があります。今や、韓国が新しい精神文明の発祥地となり、世界を指導して、世界に雄飛する時が来たので、その韓国が今後は、もうこれ以上苦難の中に貧しく苦しんでいてはいけないからです。

いわば神様は、韓国をこれから全権特命大使として世界に送ろうとされるのですが、その大使を、ぼろぼろの雑巾のような服を着せて送り出すことはできないのです。礼服を着せて、世界の前に立たせようというのが神様のみ旨です。

韓国は名実共に、世界の指導者像を備えなければなりません。これから韓国は、どの面から見ても世界各国において模範となり、羡望の的となり、彼らから尊敬を受けなければなりません。

韓国のセマウル(新しい村)運動は、「我々も一度良い暮らしをしてみよう！」という段階で止まってはいけません。韓国のセマウル運動は、世界を良い暮らしができるようにする運動に昇華されなければなりません。そのようなセマウル運動が、セマウム(新しい心)運動へと前進したことは、あまりにも神様のみ旨にかなったことです。

セマウル運動が自分の体をよく生かす運動だとするなら、セマウム運動は自分の霊魂をよく活かす運動だからです。そして、このセマウム運動は、忠孝精神を中枢としたものなので、セマウム運動が世界に伸びていくとき、世界は私たちから真の忠孝精神を学ぶでしょう。このセマウム運動も、さらに一段階、前進しなければなりません。

私たちが究極的に始めようとする運動は、セサラン(新しい愛)運動です。セサラン運動は、神様を父として愛し、隣人を自分の体のように愛する運動です。新しい愛の極致は犠牲です。神様と世界と国と同胞のために犠牲となる運動に昇華されなければなりません。

イエス·キリストの究極的な教えがこれでした。しかし、キリスト教の歴史は、このセサラン運動をするところでいつも失敗しました。自分だけ生き、自分だけのためにする運動は必ず滅びます。自分を犠牲にして相手を生かす運動こそが、永遠に残るのです。

イスラエル選民たちには、正にこのような悟りがなかったので、イエス·キリストを十字架にかけてしまいました。キリスト教の全盛期を享有したローマは、自分を中心とした利己主義に翻弄されるとき、その帝国も内部から崩壊してしまったのです。

9. Carrying out a new movement of love

No one can touch Korea as long as God’s special protection is here. By God’s power, the powers that want to harm Korea are being broken down one by one. The recent defeat of Congressman Fraser, who sought to destroy Korea through the U.S. Congress, is a good example of this.

Ladies and gentlemen, God has protected our homeland Korea so that it can be the forerunner of a new era. Our long-endured difficulties have passed, and at last the day has come when we will step forward as leaders of this new era. However, the reason God called Korea is not to give life only to Korea; it is to save the whole world.

Korea needs to realize that it has been called to the task of saving the world. Since God called us, we need to become kings and queens of love who can be the first to sacrifice ourselves for God’s task of bringing salvation to the world.

To die for this holy task is to live, and to suffer for it is the way to glory. This is the meaning of Jesus’ words, “He who seeks to save his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matt. 10:39,16:25)

Korea’s New Village (Sae-maul) Movement is a brilliant, monumental demonstration of self-reliance and revival. Such an achievement is without parallel in our history since the time of Tangun, the founder of Korea. There is no record of any other nation having such an achievement.

The present industrial development of Korea surpasses even the reconstruction of Japan and Germany after the war. The fact of this rapid growth has great meaning, especially when it occurs at the same time as Kim II Sung is probing, looking for any chance to attack the South.

The American people have tried to accuse me by saying that I have a close relationship with President Park Chung-hee, but in reality I never met President Park, not even once. It is not the way of a righteous person to refuse to recognize good acts for what they are. I firmly believe that President Park is a leader chosen by Heaven for this important era. I think that if it were not for him, it would be very difficult to endure the constant threat from Kim II Sung, and the reconstruction of our homeland would not be possible.

There is a reason why God has helped our homeland develop very rapidly by raising up such a leader at this time in history. It is because the time has come for Korea to guide the world. We need to take a great leap into the world as the nation that is creating a new spiritual culture. To do so, Korea should shed its past image as a poor and humble place. God wants to send Korea as an ambassador to the world, but God cannot send an ambassador in dirty, ragged clothes.

Rather, God wants to send our nation forth in full ceremonial dress. Korea needs to acquire the image of global leadership, both in name and in reality. Korea should become a model for the whole world, an object of admiration, which can be respected by others in every aspect. President Park is the person whom God has chosen in order to accomplish this task.

Korea’s New Village Movement ought to move ahead with the motto, “Let us live well,” and develop into a movement to make the whole world live well. Therefore, my initiative to develop the New Village Movement into the “New Mind Movement” is in line with God’s Will.

Just as the New Village Movement is a movement to enable the body to live well, the New Mind Movement is a movement to enable the spirit to live well. The backbone of this New Mind Movement is the spirit of loyalty and filial piety. If the New Mind Movement spreads throughout the world, the world will learn the true spirit of loyalty and filial piety from us.

However, this New Mind Movement has to progress to the next level. The movement that we ultimately should begin is the “New Love Movement.” The focus of the New Love Movement will be to love God as our Parent and to love our neighbors as ourselves. The crown of love is sacrifice. The New Mind Movement has to develop into a movement that teaches how to sacrifice for God, the world, the nation and all fellow citizens.

This is Jesus’ ultimate teaching, but historically Christianity has always fallen short of accomplishing what I mean by this New Love Movement. Any movement that lives only for itself will inevitably fail, while any movement that is willing to die to let others live will remain eternally. Because the chosen people didn’t understand this, they rejected Jesus. Rome enjoyed prosperity during the ascendancy of Christianity, but when it became self- centered, even that great empire finally collapsed internally.
