Law enforcement officials say five New Yorkers are charged with running a shoplifting ring that stole nearly $2 million in high-end clothes and cosmetics and resold the items in New York City and in the Dominican Republic. Queens County District Attorney Melinda Katz says the ring operated from a home in New York after crews hit retailers on the East Coast and beyond. New York Governor Kathy Hochul says the arrest also marked the first time anyone has been charged under a new criminal statute of fostering the sale of stolen goods.
