고린도후서 3:6-11

저가 또 우리로 새 언약의 일군 되기에 만족케 하셨으니 의문으로 하지 아니하고 오직 영으로 함이니 의문은 죽이는 것이요 영은 살리는 것임이니라 돌에 써서 새긴 죽게 하는 의문의 직분도 영광이 있어 이스라엘 자손들이 모세의 얼굴의 없어질 영광을 인하여 그 얼굴을 주목하지 못하였거든 하물며 영의 직분이 더욱 영광이 있지 아니하겠느냐 정죄의 직분도 영광이 있은즉 의의 직분은 영광이 더욱 넘치리라 영광되었던 것이 더 큰 영광을 인하여 이에 영광될 것이 없으나 없어질 것도 영광으로 말미암았은즉 길이 있을 것은 더욱 영광 가운데 있느니라

새 언약은 의문으로 하지 않고 영으로 하신 것이다. 의문은 구약의 율법을 말하고, 영으로 하시는 것은 그리스도의 피와 용서와 은혜로 하시는 것이다. 하나님의 율법을 온전히 다 지켜서 구원받을 수 있는 사람은 아무도 없다. 죄인은 회개하고 그리스도의 피로 용서받아 구원받는 것이다. 그리스도의 은혜와 사랑이 우리를 살리고 구원하신다. 이것이 하나님께서 열어 놓으신 새롭고 산 구원의 길이다.

히브리서 10:19-20

그러므로 형제들아 우리가 예수의 피를 힘입어 성소에 들어갈 담력을 얻었나니 그 길은 우리를 위하여 휘장 가운데로 열어 놓으신 새롭고 산 길이요 휘장은 곧 저의 육체니라

의로우신 하나님의 율법을 어기고 멸망할 수밖에 없는 인간들을 그리스도의 피가 살려 주신다. 이제 누구든지 예수 그리스도를 믿고 자신의 죄를 회개하면 그 피로 용서받고 구원받는 길이 열렸다. 율법은 의롭지만 죄인 된 인간은 그것을 온전히 지킬 수 없으며, 율법 앞에서 자신의 죄와 정죄를 깨닫게 된다.

그러나 하나님의 계명은 우리가 무엇을 회개해야 하는지를 깨닫게 하는 절대적인 기준이다. 만일 율법이 사라진다면 죄가 무엇인지 깨닫지 못하고 올바른 회개도 할 수 없게 된다. 그래서 예수님께서는 율법의 일점일획도 없어지지 않는다고 말씀하신 것이다.

율법은 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 사랑하는 절대적인 기준이다. 억지로 형식만 지키는 것이 아니라 자원하는 마음으로 하나님과 이웃을 사랑하는 것이 참된 순종이다. 사랑하지 못한 것을 깨닫고 회개해야 용서받는다. 율법의 외적인 형식만 지키는 것이 믿음이 아니다. 마음을 다하여 하나님과 이웃을 사랑하고, 자신의 부족함과 죄를 깨달을 때마다 진실하게 회개하는 것이 구원에 이르는 살아 있는 믿음이다.

돌판에 새긴 십계명을 받을 때에도 모세의 얼굴에는 하나님의 영광의 광채가 나타났다. 그러나 그 율법을 온전히 지켜 자신의 의로 구원받은 사람은 없었다. 구약 시대에는 어린양의 피를 통하여 죄 사함의 길을 보여 주셨고, 신약 시대에는 예수 그리스도께서 친히 피를 흘리심으로 구원의 길을 완성하셨다.

구약 시대 어린양의 피는 장차 흘리실 예수 그리스도의 피를 가리키는 그림자였다. 그러므로 신구약 모든 시대의 구원은 결국 예수 그리스도의 피와 하나님의 은혜로 이루어지는 것이다. 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 구원을 전파하는 것은 구약의 율법을 전파하는 것보다 더욱 영광스러운 일이다. 그림자보다 실체가 더욱 분명하고 완전하며 영광스럽기 때문이다.

하나님께 속한 모든 일에는 영광이 있다. 잠시 있다가 사라지는 것에도 하나님께서 주신 영광이 있었다. 그러나 영원히 없어지지 않는 예수 그리스도의 구원과 새 언약의 영광은 그것과 비교할 수 없이 크고 영광스러운 것이다.

그러므로 우리는 사람을 정죄하는 데 머물러서는 안 된다. 율법을 통하여 자신의 죄를 깨닫고 회개하며, 예수 그리스도의 피를 의지하여 용서받고, 성령을 따라 하나님과 이웃을 사랑하며 살아야 한다. 이것이 새 언약의 길이며, 예수께서 자신의 피로 열어 놓으신 새롭고 산 구원의 길이다.

2 Corinthians 3:6-11

He has made us competent ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. For even the ministry of the letter of death, written on stone, had glory, so that the children of Israel could not look at Moses’ face because of the fading glory of his face; how much more glorious is the ministry of the Spirit? If the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness will have even greater glory. For what was glorious has no more glory because of a greater glory; but since what is perishable came through glory, what is eternal is even more glorious.

The new covenant was established not by the letter but by the Spirit. The letter refers to the law of the Old Testament, while what is established by the Spirit is established through the blood, forgiveness, and grace of Christ. No one can be saved by perfectly keeping all of God's law. A sinner is saved by repenting and receiving forgiveness through the blood of Christ. The grace and love of Christ give us life and save us. This is the new and living way of salvation that God has opened.

Hebrews 10:19-20

Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus. This is the new and living way opened for us through the veil, which is His body.

The blood of Christ gives life to human beings who were destined for destruction after violating the law of the righteous God. Now, the way has been opened for anyone who believes in Jesus Christ and repents of their sins to be forgiven and saved by His blood. Although the law is righteous, sinful humans cannot keep it perfectly, and they come to realize their own sin and condemnation before the law.

However, God's commandments are the absolute standard that enables us to realize what we must repent of. If the law were to disappear, we would not realize what sin is, nor would we be able to repent properly. That is why Jesus said that not a single jot or tittle of the law would pass away.

The law is the absolute standard for loving God and loving one's neighbor. True obedience is not merely keeping the formalities under duress, but loving God and neighbor with a willing heart. One must realize one’s failure to love and repent to receive forgiveness. Faith is not merely observing the external forms of the law. Loving God and neighbor with all one’s heart, and sincerely repenting whenever one realizes one’s own shortcomings and sins, is the living faith that leads to salvation.

Even when Moses received the Ten Commandments inscribed on stone tablets, the radiance of God’s glory appeared on his face. However, no one was saved by their own righteousness by perfectly keeping that law. In the Old Testament era, the way to the forgiveness of sins was shown through the blood of the Lamb, and in the New Testament era, Jesus Christ completed the way of salvation by personally shedding His blood.

The blood of the Lamb in the Old Testament era was a shadow pointing to the blood of Jesus Christ that would be shed in the future. Therefore, salvation in all ages, both Old and New Testaments, is ultimately accomplished through the blood of Jesus Christ and the grace of God. Preaching the grace and salvation of Jesus Christ is a more glorious work than preaching the laws of the Old Testament. This is because the substance is clearer, more perfect, and more glorious than the shadow.

There is glory in all things that belong to God. Even in things that exist for a short time and then vanish, there was glory given by God. However, the salvation of Jesus Christ, which never perishes, and the glory of the New Covenant are incomparably greater and more glorious than that.

Therefore, we must not stop at condemning people. We must live by realizing our own sins through the law and repenting, receiving forgiveness by relying on the blood of Jesus Christ, and loving God and our neighbors according to the Holy Spirit. This is the way of the New Covenant, and the new and living way of salvation that Jesus opened with His own blood.
