Bucks Could Wait For Head Coach Under Contract With Another Team To Become Available

 벅스가 Mike Budenholzer 감독을 해임한 가운데, 감독 영입을 서두르기 보다는, 다른 팀에서 일하고 있는 코치들이 계약 종료/해임 등의 이유로 접촉이 가능할 수 있는 때 까지 기다릴 수도 있다는 이야기네요. 언급되는 후보로는 Charles Lee, Frank Vogel, Nick Nurse 등이 있네요.

The Milwaukee Bucks have a critical decision to make with their next head coach after firing Mike Budenholzer and may take their time with the process to see if a candidate under contract with another team becomes available.

Associate head coach Charles Lee is a probable candidate, while Frank Vogel and Nick Nurse are also potential candidates for the job.

"Outside of the team, I think you look not just at coaches who are available in the marketplace, but Milwaukee is in a position where maybe they can wait out some coaches who are technically not available," said Adrian Wojnarowski on NBA Countdown on Thursday. "Still under contract with other teams. See how these playoffs play out. Is there a coach or two who either becomes free with the team they're at, or if there is a conversation to be had with a team about a potential coach."

While no head coaches were specifically mentioned by Wojnarowski in his report, Doc Rivers and Ty Lue are two logical fits considering their current situations and status as championship winning coaches.  

The Bucks remain an attractive job given the presence of Giannis Antetokounmpo. 

Milt Newton, Trajan Langdon Among Candidates For Wizards' GM Job

The Washington Wizards are in the early stages of finding a new general manager to replace Tommy Sheppard. 

The Wizards have had initial conversations with Milt Newton and Trajan Langdon.

Newton is currently assistant general manager of the Milwaukee Bucks, while Langdon is general manager of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Ted Leonsis remains in the information-gathering stage of the process.

The Milwaukee Bucks face a critical offseason in which they will hire a new head coach after parting ways with Mike Budenholzer while also contending with the free agencies of Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton. Those decisions could impact the extension decision Giannis Antetokounmpo faces in September. 

"There is no indication he has given that he wants to leave," said Brian Windhorst on First Take. "But if he doesn't extend, it's a major red flag for what's going on with the organization. He's going to sit there and watch whether they're going to sign Lopez and Middleton and I'm not sure they're going to be able to do it."

Milwaukee not only will have a high payroll if they keep Lopez and Middleton, but they will also have an exorbitant luxury tax bill with the repeater tax.

"That uncertainity is what the league is watching right now," added Windhorst.

"I don't know what's going to happen and that uncertainity is one of the biggest storylines in the NBA."

Windhorst also points to the sale of a portion of the Bucks by Marc Lasry to Jimmy Haslam as an indicator of potential issues the franchise has in keeping their championship core together long-term.

The Dallas Mavericks have concerns within their franchise that Luka Doncic could request a trade as early as the 2024 offseason, which would alter the league given his age and status as one of the top-5 players in the NBA.

The Utah Jazz have accumulated a surplus of draft picks over the past year with their trades of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, which could put them in position to assemble one of the more compelling offers to the Mavericks while also leaving enough of a supporting cast around Doncic to remain competitive. The Jazz could likely outbid almost any team for Doncic.

"With my spies telling me that Utah in particular is keeping a very interested eye on Doncic’s situation, even the Nets’ kitchen-sink offer for Doncic — the four firsts from Phoenix and one from Philly, plus whatever matching salary not named Bridges is needed to make the deal work — likely falls massively short," wrote John Hollinger at The Athletic. 

If Doncic were to seek an exit from the Mavericks, it has yet to be seen which teams he would prefer a trade to.

Charles Lee interviewed for the head coaching vacancy with the Toronto Raptors on Thursday, sources tell Marc Stein.

Lee is also a finalist for the Detroit Pistons' job.

Lee has been an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks since 2018. The Bucks fired Mike Budenholzer on Thursday.

Jimmy Butler remains questionable for Saturday's Game 3 against the New York Knicks due to a sprained ankle.

Butler, who missed Game 2 of the series, did work out with the team on Friday. 

Erik Spolestra said that Butler's status would not be revealed until closer to tipoff. 

Caleb Martin is also listed as questionable due to a back injury.
