Giannis Antetokounmpo To Miss World Cup To Rehab Left Knee

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece announced that he will miss the 2023 FIBA World Cup to continue to rehab from left knee surgery. Antetokounmpo had been included on Greece's initial roster, but it was recently determined that he's not ready to return to play yet.

Antetokounmpo underwent cleanup surgery on his left knee earlier this summer. After a follow-up meeting with his doctors in the United States, it was determined Antetokounmpo would not play in this summer's competition.

"After months of work and multiple meetings with medical staff it is clear that I am not ready to compete in the level that I need to be to participate in the World Cup," Antetokounmpo said on his Twitter account. "This was not a choice but my only option in ensuring I get back to the level of basketball I have worked so hard to achieve so far in my career. I am extremely disappointed in this outcome but this was a decision made with the medical staff."

Greece in Group C with the United States, Jordan and New Zealand. Team USA plays Greece in their second game of the group stage on August 28.

Jayce Johnson, Warriors Agree To Camp Deal

The Golden State Warriors have agreed to sign Jayce Johnson to a training camp deal.

Johnson will compete for a Two-Way slot with the Warriors in camp.

Johnson averaged 9.4 points and 13.5 rebounds in 25.7 minutes over 32 games in the G League last season.

Alondes Williams, Heat Agree To Exhibit 10 Deal

The Miami Heat and Alondes Williams have agreed to an Exhibit 10 training camp deal.

Williams appeared in one game for Nets last season.

Williams also averaged 13.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists for the Long Island Nets of the G League.

Josh Hart has a team option in the final year of his new contract extension, sources told Fred Katz of The Athletic.

The option puts Hart's deal at $58 million over three years, with a $22.8 million extension for the 2027-28 season.

Victor Wembanyama is tentatively scheduled to make his NBA debut on October 25 against the Dallas Mavericks, sources told Marc Stein of Substack.

The 2023-24 season is scheduled to start on October 24.

The NBA also released its Christmas Day schedule, headlined by the Celtics at the Lakers.

ESPN is reportedly close to hiring Bob Myers as an analyst on NBA Countdown, sources told Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post.

ESPN overhauled its basketball coverage this summer, with Malika Andrews taking over as the host of the NBA Finals. 

Mike Breen, Doc Rivers, and Doris Burke are also set to be the new lead play-by-play team for ESPN.
