Job, a man of God(Job 23:10~14)
But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold(10).
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #325 Living for Jesus(#359 in previous version)
A great hardship came to Job, a man of God. He lost his wealth, servants, and beloved children all at once due to Satan’s temptation which God permitted. However, Job did not become discouraged or resentful, but instead overcame hardships with an even greater confession of faith. What kind of content of faith made this possible?
1. Job’s view of possession
When we give our confession of faith before hardships, all of Satan’s authority completely crumbles down. Job knew that a person’s life, death, happiness, and woe are in God’s almighty hand. That is why he gave the confession. “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised”(Job 1:20~21) in the face of great hardship and was able to give worship.
2. Job’s view of salvation
A child of God is a person who has been saved. Nothing can be taken away from the ones who have become children of God and are held in His hands(Romans 8:31~39). Job had the complete hope of salvation which he would not trade for anything. That is why he was able to possess the background of the kingdom of God, look towards eternal rather than fleeting blessings, and have victory in the important spiritual battle.
3. Job’s view of life
Job confessed, “But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold”(Job 23:10) and proclaimed his faith, “He carries out his decree against me”(Job 23:14) God saw that this was his heart, restored everything, and fulfilled all things He had planned for him.
[Prayer of the Evangelist] God who completely governs over my life! Help me to give You the best confession of faith that I can give even today.
